Mortal Online - Release in One Week? (Press Release)

phreakistphreakist Member Posts: 21

Henrik in a press release May 4th:

Mortal Online has now been migrated onto the new Network solution and we are sorting out the bugs before going live and testing with the 160 000 members of the community.

We are soon to deploy our next build. Described on this link http://www.mortalonline.com/content/under-development Unfortunately because of the volcano on Iceland, our trip to the US was delayed so we have a slight delay in our schedule; this doesn’t mean we are delaying for a longer period. We now have our guys at Epic Games this week so we can get back on track with our release.

As soon as initial test show that we have the needed performance, we will move the build to the live testing server where we need the community to support in testing all of our release features.

We are very close to the Gold Status and would like our gamers to get prepared. We have our programmers in the US currently working with Epic Games to sort out the bugs that we are experiencing after the migration to the new release of the network solution. This should be the last week with the Beta discount, so see you all soon online

He’s said it before, but who knows? maybe it’s for real this time. Release features to test sounds like a good thing, even if to really be release ready they will have to have a lot of new content up their sleeves to reveal. It’s definitely (in my opinion) releasing early.

That being said, if you haven’t played Mortal, but you like the idea of a full loot, full PVP, player skill dependent combat, sandbox style, a very interesting industry system with potential for a strong economy (although it’s definitely not there yet, and will need major work), and FPS action including multiple hitboxes for limbs (headshots and weak points) definitely try this one if you get the chance. I haven’t played any MMORPG with melee PVP anywhere nearly as well done as Mortal, and playing it you’ll notice it still has a lot of room to get even better (this video is an example of it at it’s worst, with two completely new scrubs battling eachother in starter rags with a couple pet pigs and various trash weapons… but it’s recent).

The press release basically reiterates most of what he said in a release update posted in the official forum a week ago, but with the last bit implying this is the last week of beta attached to the end.

It certainly sounds like this is intended to be the final Beta build and essentially what we see after it is put in place will be largely what we get at release.  That being said, they will need to debug afterit is put in place and there is no telling how long that will take (though it shouldn't be long.  Specifically, what Henrick said is that the Beta discount may be ending this week.  That would certainly imply that he thinks the game will be close enough to the finished product to warrant the full price (i.e.not discounted for helping with the beta testing)  Whether that means a couple days or a couple weeks away from launch remains to be seen (largely based on the debugging needed).

This is going to make those who believe in miracle patches choose a different god.

There are no such things as miracle patches.

You know I like everything about this game on paper.

    1. Sandbox

    2. fast skill gain for combat

    3. real time combat

    4. Fantastic art direction

    5. Great Lore

    6. Great graphics

    7. Epic view distance

    8. looks like it would make a great rppvp game

But current state it is in is horrid.  Plus i cannot stand forced first person view for Melee and mounted.  A nice well place tight over the shoulders is always the best for for melee and mounted.  Their might be a small niche who disagree but they are firmly in the minority.

Plus no offense i like to see my character here and there.

And it would not ruin stealth and sneaking at all.  If someone has their weapon drawn they are normally in a higher alert stage anyhow.  Thats pretty realistic as far as I am concerned.
