Gods and Heroes: New MMORPG Announced!

AdminAdmin Administrator RarePosts: 5,623

Perpetual Entertainment has just announced that they are well into development on a Roman-themed MMORPG "Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising."  We have just added this great looking title to our game list and have added some screenshots as well.

This title will boast some great new features:

  • Squad based combat
  • Gods, creatures and monsters of mythology
  • Over 1200 quests
  • Dynamic Zone™ technology and hundreds of scripted adventures providing the best of single-player game mechanics

They have also released some amazing video footage showing off their combat animation system.  You can view the videos at this link.

Gotta say this looks very interesting. Controlling squads instead of only one character should make things interesting. Combining those into armies with other players(normal grouping in a way) should make encounters with certain creatures and enemies kinda epic. I like this. :) I know I'll be following this game to see how things go. This is what I like to see, something original, I hope they can pull this off well.

This game does look very promising! It seems to be a cross between a solo game and and online MMORPG.

Commanding a squad of NPC's is awesome. Limiting the number of people in an instance should keep down lag. But what is unique here is that each instance belongs to you or your group (and perhaps a few others). So the state in which you left it will be its state when you return (like a solo computer game).

The economic system is yet unknown so how these instances transform into an online experience remains to be seen.

PvP is just an after thought here with arenas, etc. It is not integral to the game which is a shame especially since lots of non-Roman races will be in the game. A strategic non-ganking PvP online game has yet to come out.

A Roman genre should add some novelty to the genre. I just wonder how this will affect Roma Victor?

Lots of quests is a big plus as well. We have seem how well they work in WoW.

Still I will be following this one closely.

Personally, I think this was a pretty significant blow to Roma Victor. I mean, sure, this is still in development while Roma Victor is in Beta, so we really can't make comparisons yet, but the graphics are very nice in GnH (even if we haven't seen RV's best graphics yet, they still can't compare with GnH), and their planned features really make this game sound very nice. We'll have to see what happens.

Can't wait for the beta to come. I'm really excited about this game, and also the concept of an Ancient Rome game. I was excited about RV because of that, but now I think I'm going to go ahead and stick with GnH instead of RV. Well, so far Perpetual Entertainment has done a few good things right, good direction for the company so far.

Why do you think its a squad of NPCs?

Having it set in Rome is nice. I don't know anything about Roma Victor but I've always been interested in history about Rome and the time period. While I don't expect things to be realistic, the setting will be interesting. The same setting is what drew me to Dark Age of Camelot when I played.

the combat in the videos looks a little back-and-forth/turn- based but still looks pretty amazing

Make of it what you will.

Looks absolutely terrific! This is *exactly* what I've been waiting for since WoW came out. From the previews I've read it sounds like WoW-ish, and I like WoW, but this makes it less cartoony (which annoys me in WoW).

Plus, can't go wrong with D2's designer...

The screens look really good. Now to watch this video. image

    *edit*

Great, but short videos. I can't beleive it has been done. I was waiting for find a mmorpg that that would actually respond to hits, somthing that looks like it has a Dynasty Warriors kind of feel to it. Players falling to the ground and getting back up. Not just standing and making noises and lil flashes on the screen responding to hits.

I can't wait for this one image

    I'm loving it.

Keep in mind, though, that this style of combat still owes a lot to MXO's precedence. It looks like they're pulling it off with quite a different style, but let's give credit where it's due.
