So, I have been searching for a MMO that allows me to play as a crafter. So far, I'm playing EVE. The depth of that game is amazing, but I can't really get into the sci-fi/space setting. Someone recommended Mortal Online. But...after a few hours in, I'm stuck. I know that is a horrible question, but how do I make money as a beginner?
After searching the Mortal Online forums, I found out that most things I gain from crafting are basically worthless, don't bring in any money. But how else should I gain money to buy skill books and become better at crafting?
The forums gave me two solutions:
1.Fight things like pigs.
I can't do that one. I tried, but the pigs will appear out of nowhere, wrap on top of me or suddenly disappear. Plus, my attacks take a lot of time to register, until any damage is noted, I'm already drained on HP (though I did get my stats up first) and even if I run behind it and attack from behind, my attacks miss and it can still attack me.
2.Steal things from others.
Are these really the only possibilities? I want to be a crafter ONLY. I don't like stealing from others and the fighting has proven to be very frustrating for me so far. Any input on what else I could do would be nice.

It's hard to kill the pigs at first because A: they warp about alot. B: Your combat skills blow in the begining. Once you skill up your attacks get faster and more deadly and it gets easier, but the catch is you need to hit pigs to do it. I started by killing pigs at Meduli, it takes time but as you get better it's alot easier.
You can sell the leather and emalj for cash and use it and bone tissue for crafters to make armour and weapons for you. Later I learnt to tame and now do that for money, but you need cash from pigs to buy the books.
The easy way to skill up is to go in the wild and skill your weapon up by hitting a priest. When your dex and skills are higher allowing you to swing better you can start on those pigs and kill them in a few hits.
Hope that helps.

Mortal Online is going to be completely changed hopefully so pointless asking really as we just do not know.
Start in Toxai and chop brown wood trees and sell to vendor. After you have saved up enough money then run up to MK and buy skills. You can work on all crafter types in Toxai also with no problems.
As far as I'm aware, SV are working on fixing the more serious desync and latency issues and adding some minor content here and there. Unless they have some super secret mega project in the works, then the answer will always be to mine, harvest or kill pigs just outside the starting town.
completely changed. . .. hopefully? Do you have any reason to believe this or is it just what you hope. If it is just what you hope then you should not tell someone that asking about the current game is pointless. I am pretty sure we do know. They have not bad very many significant changes in the last 6 months so I don't think we will see anything radically different.
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
When I was playing during closed beta, I just went outside a town and started mining.. you couldn't even sell things back then. I was still able to kill weasels and such, then eventually worked my way up to pigs and deer. I took a beating but I still managed to kill them. I was playing before houses and vendors and all that good stuff. If I could do it then, you should be able to do it now.
The problem with this game is there is no tutorial / tooltip for mundane tasks, at least there wasn't when I played. BTW, I managed to make a full suit of plate and then stood outside of town to see how quickly I was killed. Yeah, I lasted as long as it took for someone to notice a miner in full armor =P
Having to attack an invulnerable NPC is a dumb way to gain skill. Why can't they just add very low level creatures to the game? Why can't there be very low level starter quests to get newbies going in the right direction? Why can't there be a UI that actually works as intended and helps you figure things out? Stupid companies thinking sandbox means 'hard to play'.
Yeah, sandbox does not equal no content. Asherons Call was a sandbox game but it had tons of mobs for all kind of levels as well as quests.
Unfourunately alot of companies use 'sandbox' as an excuse to not add enough content which leads people to believe that is how sandbox games are. They are not, only poor sandbox games are like that.
