Connections

locfordlocford Member UncommonPosts: 28

Hey all,

Just wondering if any game has a good solution for a connection loss. I have played a lot of MMos and some give you a few seconds for the connection to reestablish, others you kind of know when you are attacking, but not hitting anything, and others just quit working all together. While I wish the games would give you a bit more time to reconnect, because some classes are assured an LD death, the worst case secenario is the games that keep you, supposedly in the game, though you cant do a thing and the only way to get out is to end the application in Windows. As much as I hate getting kicked back to the character select or login screen, it is much better then just being stuck in game. Anyone seen a much better solution.

Well I just thought of another solution, which is not used yet in any game.

When the server realizes that you were disconnected, the server takes control over your character and fights for you.

But the AI won't move away too much and it won't attack monsters that don't have aggro already. It's just to give you a chance to stay alive.

Something else I'd like to see is that, if you have a disconnect, your screen becomes grey and you will be prompted wether you wish to quit the application or try to reconnect immediately. If you choose the latter, you won't have to load the whole zone again and will be in action again in an instant.

mm what is your advertise net speed download and upload!

seond!did you check speedguide.net!they have ton of info and no dont use their auto optimiser program its too generic!

    i never get disconnected

are you streaming ,uploading, downloading while playing game?if you do,please stop that!yes i know the salesman say you can multitask but multitasking while gaming is a sure way to get bootedfrom the game

they have auto detection in most game and if you try to do both they tend to think you are trying to hack the game and boot you out for no reason the game is made that way

lastly !could you mention the game you get booted from because i didnt meet that game yet!

or your connection speed isnt fast enough for our game we are disconnecting you  ty!

In EQ1 that sometimes happened. Just not every time. I remember conversations with group members after a disconnect.

    "Did I fight?"

    "yes"

    "Did I fight well?"

    "no"

    Hi,

The most frequent disconnects are when the ISP resets their lines, reboots servers or whatever the heck they are doing.  Ho That happens at least twice a day. For most of the rest of the day I get between 1.6 and 1.9 mb download and .5 to 1 mb upload.  I do not download or run anything else when I am playing. Now EQ2 will tolerate a few seconds of not communicating, after that, it will try to reconnect to the server and put you back at the character select screen. DDO seems very sensitive to a constant connection and when whatever parameters they have are exceeded,  I am just stuck in the game. The only way out is to kill the application.

I might add I live in the Philippines at the moment and the ISP I am using is the only game in town and I have the best of what they offer outside of business class. And forget about trying to find out what the heck they are doing, it would probably take an act of God to talk to a real technician and then they probably would not tell you the truth. I will check the site you mentioned for optimize info. I did it when I had XP, but havent since switching to Win 7.

in that problem i can only see 2 things

    1. your internet connection is not that capable of gaming.

    2. Game server is so far from you.

so i guess you need to change internet connection or get a faster internet provider.

philipine ?do a tracer and see if there is a bottleneck somewhere if there is? note the name! then call your internet provider and mention it to them .often there are lot of diff partys and in some area they change security setting but forget to mention it to certain isp.like left hand isnt speaking to right hand(yes you would be baffled how aften it happen in america)

espacially when new os pop up.like now w7 was released not long ago and often some stuff in the network provider needs tweaking .its their job but they only touch it if there are complain in most case

being in philipine doesnt matter now a days since the whole globe is net connected
