Of these 7 - I would only like to see them really work on the character animations and looks in LOTRO + making the horse look much better.   LOTRO needs a facelift just like WOW needs one.  Will Turbine work on the things like BLizzard is doing now.  I doubt they will.  But I still hope.

Would I like to see 3rd faction in WAR ?  Yes - but it will not happen.  Lets focus on things that companies are able to do.

Good list.  I'm looking forward to both Cataclysm and Rohan, but in all honesty, if they did release an expansion to LotRO that let players play through as one of Sauron's forces, I'd never play that expansion.  I'm truly disinterested in that aspect of the game, have never PvMP'd in LotRO, and have no desire to do so.  Also, I cannot see how such a thing could be made to work without turning the game into a PvP-fest, which is not how the game was designed.  I grant that there are probably many, many LotRO players who would be excited by a "Forces of Mordor" expansion, but there are probably equally as many who, like me, really wouoldn't want any part of it.

Maybe MMO is not your genre, go play Modern Warfare...or something you can be all twitchy...and rank up all night. This is seriously getting tired. -Ranyr

Global Agenda: Sandstorm and WAR: Third Faction make me most excited :D

AO's water graphic looks worse in the NEW shot ...

Definitely would like to see an avatar in Eve ... I suffer from the same problem :P

As for WAR can't see how they can add a third faction w/o going against lore  tbh

As for PvP in LOTRO ... well I dunno. Yes I for one would have loved to play the bad guy, but not at the expense of the atmosphere they have there. From what I played of Lotrro it had a relaxed & pleasant atmosphere

    [Mod Edit]

Rohan I agree its been way past time, it is to bad that turbine now wb has decided  to let the game die an early death, we can all so that the dev recourses have been pulled and move to ddo and whatever new mmo they are working on.

I was hoping that the merger with wb would fix the ailing problems that lotro has had the past 2 years, how well status quo were never going to see rohan nor forces of darkness not uless somebody get some brass cahonies at turbine and start's trying to reverse the bad decisions made since mom.

from the OP: MMORPG.com's Bill Murphy returns with this week's List, counting down seven expansions, both real and fictional, that we'd like to see.

It helps to read :-P these arent real expansions being worked, just wishful thinking, and hopes for the future. He was simply pointing out that many of us would like to see LOTRO expanded to allow you to play both sides of the game as full characters with some real pvp, not the monster crap theyve got now. It really would breathe a lot of life into the game, as the lack of any real pvp is the main thing stopping myself and a lot of others from sticking with the game.

And those of you who keep complaining that doing this to LOTRO would turn it into a pvp/gank fest... ever hear of consensual pvp? or pvp specific zones? PvP doe snot have to = FFA kill everyone everywhere ruin the game for carebears type pvp. Plus, even if they did make it pretty open/FFA, there would most likely be PvP and PVE servers.

Come to think of it... there is one huge flaw in LOTRO that will only crow bigger and bigger.  The WORLD is not updated with the happenings that is going on with Frodo and company.  Things back in hobbit town should ofc change with the entire storyline.   I think Turbine should  be doing that emphesising the focus on where Frodo is at current state in the WORLD (not lvl of the character).  It would ofc also give much more intresting storyline to tell..

We all know it wont happen tho.  It costs money to change things.. And turbine will not spend money on it.  Lets face it... alot of ppl have hated character looks, animations and horses from day one.  Nothing has been done about it.

Maybe an expansion for Aion would be good, don't really know the story that much of what you could have added but it never hurts to expand a nice looking game like this. =)

As a long term player of Lotro. All I can say at this point is WoW's new Cataclysm can't be delivered to the market place fast enough.

Screw Lotro all their time money and devs are as good as gone. They're off to make the new harry potter console micro transact game (my best guess). The writing is on the wall. Lotro is going to get  DDO'ed. Turbine is just going to hammer out thin on content thick with bugs expacs while their top salaried staff works on harry potter wands.

While it would be great if Turbine worked on monster play they'll leave that in the bag until everyone is long gone, the game is finished and they want one last kick at the can to have players open their wallets.

    Good list and nice article.

I would also be really interested in seeing a LotRo Force of Mordor setting. However before anything else, maybe enhance PvMP which could be a very interesting PvP concept.

Now about Xpacks more than full expansions, I'd love to see the following:

    1. WoW: implementation of social clothing

    2. AoC: full redo of the whole UI from scaling, key mapping to trading interface

    3. LotrO: Housing with free item placement system and player housing in NPC cities and structures.

On top of that I would very much welcome a SWG Pre-CU server gift from LA/SOE

  • Great write up which makes it all the more painful on some of the ones that will never happen. (long time pvmp'r from lotr).

a big fat no to a PvP centric LotRO thank you..

don't need another l33t mmo community.. we like ours just fine..

We need a first person Ulima Online with the current crafting system, buildings and decor, add questing and acheivements and 3d char customization. That game was always soo fun but the overhead 2d look got old after 9 years!!!

You could not convert the current LotR online into a PvP game, it's simply not made / balanced / world designed for it. They do need to improve and expand on what they do have however.

I was thinking Warhammer Online: The Rest of the Game.

Like those other four capital cities that were there and then not.

Makes sense to put LOTRO on the list twice.  It's just crazy that such a successful game has had so little expansion, one way or another.  Did they make so much money with lifetime subs that they don't care if old players lose interest in it and new players grow so few and far between?

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

I would pay alot of money for expansion #1 and #2. The other ones I really dont care much about.

"But there isn't a person out there reading this who can say in all honesty that they wouldn't want to play through the entirety of the LotRO campaign as an Orc or a Goblin in Sauron's army without lying through their teeth"

I read the article, and in all honesty I can say NO to playing the dark forces of Sauron. And guess what, I'm not even lying through my teeth.

LOTRO Mordor would be good, but I see it as being a seperate game entirely at launch merging together with LOTRO later on, kinda like City of Villains was to City of Heroes. Interesting things could be done with quests to the south of Mordor to recruit forces for the armies of Mordor.

Catalysm? It just seems to me, WoW is trying to revitalize what is becoming a dated game.

  • OzmodanOzmodan Member EpicPosts: 9,726

Good list.  At first I was going to say why include anything on Warhammer, but that is exactly what the game needs.  Unfortunately, it does not really fit into the lore.  They should include it anyways....

How about an non NGE expansion in Star Wars lol?

  • PandinusPandinus Member Posts: 2

A third faction in WAR could be somewhat true to Lore and in my opinion the best choices would be Lizardmen , Ogre Kingdoms and Wood Elves. They could be the "neutral" forces in the game and would have some badass classes like the awsome Saurus Oldblood for Lizardmen, the bloodthirsty Slaughter Master for Ogre Kingdoms and limber Wardancers for Wood Elves.

And finally wich races should they fight , here is my list:

Lizardmen would be against High & Dark Elves

The Ogre Kingdoms would be against the Empire & Chaos

Wood Elves would be against Dwarfs and Greenskins.
