I wouldn't mind tagging along but the last 2 "groups" of people that I tried to hook up with from this site for a start from scratch guild in vanguard died before they even got started with the last one not even lasting for 1 day. With everyone from literally all over the planet and having very different takes on what they want out of the game I would wager it being very difficult to make this work in practice.
I tried doing something similar about a year ago with my one man guild in eq2 and I never got a single person from here or anywhere for that matter who wanted to hook up for the whole start from scratch guild thing. I guess anything is possible but I think I'll stay on fence on this group until I would see something definite take shape.
Hmm...been playing DDO lately, but I gotta admit that since I've read the article, I've been wanting to give Vanguard a try (missed it at launch....fortunately). Since it seems there's quite a crowd here willing to try as well, I guess you'll see me soon as well...if only I still had time for 2 MMOs... guess I'll be hopping back and forth
I`ve loved the idea and potential of VG. The bugs initially made me quit, then I tried going back with members of this site only to have it dissolve very fast, leaving me with a sour aftertaste.
I simply don`t enjoy it enough to solo. I`m one of those ppl that play an mmo for the social aspect, and even if the game is beautiful and rich, it isn`t immersive for me if i have to play it as single player game. Some can, and good for them, I totally respect that. I, however, can`t force myself to play a game by someone else`s standards.
I also play during the night (EST) and see a reduced population in any game I play in general, though that bothers me less as many of the larger pop. games have ppl from all over playing so i can usually find some ppl to play/chat with.
If only to find one or two ppl to actually play with ingame, it might make me come back and see VG in maybe a different light. Who knows?!
EDIT: i didnt see the other tread about which server to play on, sorted now so ignore the poll!
Currently playing : Darkfall Character name : Aeola Anara Played: Almost every P2P MMO you can get your hands on, notably: Daoc, SWG, LOTRO, WAR, AoC + Dozens more
I would but i will wait till i get a free comeback offer before i go back. Bought game at release (wish i hadnt) read here that first yr xmas comeback trial (again wish i hadnt as nothing had changed), not seen hide nor hair of a free comeback offer since. Upto them to bring offer not me to pay to play to see if its worth returning to. I just dont want to waste any money on something that left a very very bad taste after purchasing the game. Yes, would like to see if teh game has improved and been fixed though i do not want to part with any money to find out if it has or hasnt. I just do not want to take the risk as if it is still poor i may as well have put a mtch to the subscription fee and watched it burn in front of me.
who wants to start a game with a couple years old, very low population, the company behind it doesnt support it, its diying.....with all these new great production mmorpgs comming soon?
Not me i prefer something new, that is going to grow and continue to be developed for years to come with a huge comunity.
Okay ,well no point in you being in thsi thread then,i guess their is nothing more you need to say now, unless you are uunhappy because others want to play it?
Me myself, i have never stopped playing it and have 4 top level toons but i might just start another onother server,i am in a guild on Halgar server..EU

IDK $15 isnt a lot at all, but you can always check amazon.com or ebay.com and buy the game for $5. If that's not cheap enough then IDK. It doesn't seem like there will ever be anymore free come back month anymore as that was what I had been hoping for too.
Just started on the pvp server. So far, ive noticed nothing but a couple (like 3) diplomacy quests. Where are all the other quests?
Not a single line of chat from anyone, no sighting of another player.
Is this to be expected?
Possibly. The game's focus mainly seems on PVE, so those servers, mainly Seradon, seems to have the most people. There are tons of people on the trial/beginner island constantly it seems. And I've always found someone in every region chat to ask questions, and possibly help. And I've run across a couple groups/solo people in some questing hubs as well.
I can't really give insight, but it seems PvP server is the ghost server, except for the hardcore who really love it.
If you play that IoD over say the starting Qalian areas, you are really doing yourself an injuctice. The Gnomes or the Tiger guys....very different, or the Orcs...yeah some races are pretty plain like the various humans but some are not.
Personally IMHO, you miss the immersion point of the game by doing the Isle.

The racial areas are way cooler.
yup the racial areas are way cooler. Way WAY cooler. But though you will actually find people there the majority of the population seems to be funneling in from the island.
You also get great starter gear on the island. I would say to do both if you want a full experience. You can readily meet people on the island but make an alt or another character for a mainland excursion.
I know I made a dark elf for the mainland and not only did memories of the launch come back (as far as content ; ) ) but I really was enjoying the quests.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

By the way, I did try starting an MMORPG.com guild in VG about 2 years back (check my profile) when the game had it's last real hoorah of dev support.
Let me tell you what happened...for about 2 weeks everyone argued with each other about why "X" was a ragging pile o'sh*t lol....some of them got angry with each other and left. (there were a lot more then those listed on the guild roster) some of them joined for the express reason of antaginizing one another...to bad it wasn't a PvP game. That woulda been sweet! Could you imagine an mmorpg.com Lineage 2 guild??? Man.....
I don't know if anyone was actually playing the game or just using it as an mmorpg.com IM system.

I think I remember that.
I think this effort, for those who require grouping, is more of an already built in pick-up group of sorts.
I of course had my doubts about creating a guild just from people who like the game (because isn't that any game you play) but this is an ultra relaxed effort to just provide a ready made community for people to group with.
For my take, if people leave, great, if they want to stay, great, if they want to run groups and raids, great, if the guild doesn't work then that's a shame but in the end I'm keeping my account open and playable in perpetuity. I mean, I don't require a guild or a group to enjoy myself. I think I just joined because having one more person willing to help out or group with someone will lend that much more weight to other people staying and trying vanguard out.

VG is an ok game, don't get me wrong but it really suffers for a few reasons.
It lacks any real compelling reason to keep grinding away at it. It has a world capible of being a sandbox but they set it up as a linear themepark.
None of their features really do anything. Boats have virtually no function, houses, for the huge amountof effort you need to put into them, don't amount to anything but extra storage, crafting is bypassed by loot....
You can easily see two different dev teams at work here. The SOE guys over wrote to much of the original concept rather then fix it.

There is something about Vanguard which is very seductive, i think i will have to give it another go aswell.

Sartok has a lean population. I strongly recommend joining a guild or form a MMORPG guild on Sartok as well.
I really fun diplomacy quest I enjoyed a lot and really "shows off" the Telon lore are the Diplomacy Web Saga quests.
VGTACT.com has great diplomacy information.
There is a Thestran and a Qalian Web Saga Quests. They are long and very rewarding with loot and lore. Look this website over the the Thestran Web Quests. http://www.vgtact.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Thestran_Web_Quests
And look this Qalian Web Quests at http://www.vgtact.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Web_Quests
Prior to this, I recommend leveling up to 10 on the Isle of Dawn. Here is a leveling guide too. http://www.vgtact.com/wiki/index.php/Leveling_Guide
Enjoy.
Why the Isle of generic fantasy Dawn?

I'm tempted to give it a try myself, any idea how big is the trial version?
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Lets do this, I will resub today so count me in.
The trial island is ~2 gigs? I think that's what my friend told me. The whole game is ~8 though.
Trial is about 2.6G and the game is about 19G.
