The fact that you lose so much work night after night of attempting to do instance only to get to the "meat" of the instance and have the server go belly up.
Yup and add this to the fact that most people who play this game are Shadowbane, DAOC, or Diablo kiddies who think that ever Instance should be a Diablo Hell Cow lvl and over in 15 mins and things are getting real old for me...
Just like the above posters said, when you get to the meat and potatoes of the instance it crashes..lol
And this usually happens when you finally find a group that has players that actully played a Real MMORPG before and dont constantly ask "how much longer" or "are we there yet, cause I gotta go wash the dog".....
Blah were it not for the fact that there is nothing out there right now in the MMORPG world I would have been gone last month...
The community is horrible, to many damn bugs, servers are horrible as far as stabilty, and above all Queue lines wee.. Right now as we speak im number 487 in line and thats cause I just got booted from the server while I was doing BRD......Weeeee I know my team is happy right about now considering im the healer........
GG Blizzard you win I loose.

I'm on a "low pop" server and we are constantly having issues. I don't think more then a day goes by before emergency maintanence kicks in and forced to stop playing or switch to working server.
I have been seriously considering leaving. Damn fun game, well done and very well put together, but the stability issues of the servers are a real problem. On top of that is Blizzard's stuborn refusal to acknowledge a problem until they can no longer deny it. There unwillingness to provide timely resolutions or even a updates is just a pain. I pay to play when its convienent to me not when they feel like getting the servers to work.
I don't need these whiners repeating the same stuff every day. Blizzard does acknowledge the problem and has been claiming to be working on a solution since day one. Next week with the next patch, hopefuly the situation will improve somewhat.
It's the same with every damn MMORPG. When will people just stop the whining? You'll just do it again when you switch MMORPG's, only then it will be a new company you're bitching about.

Don't say crap like this, no it isn't. Look around, when was the last time AC1 or 2 went down for unscheduled maint? Hell even Horizons is doing better than WoW. SWG, no problems there. Pick any of the games from the list and NONE of them have the server problems WoW has.
I agree if you don't like it quit, but don't spout off how it's the same everywhere, it isn't.
Yeah, but that's different because those games suck. Heheh, let's don't get a flamewar started. You guys are proficient enough at it.
Seriously, Blizzard is having some capacity problems, I'll give you that. They grossly underestimated their market and now they're paying for it. I trust they're doing everything they can to fix it, not just because they want to live up to their reputation, but because it will save them a fortune in support cost.
But to say that nobody whines in other MMORPG's is just plain false. If not server stability, it's class balance or lack of new game content or any of the other things people currently complain about at Blizzard. It's not like these other MMORPG's are rock solid and never experience problems or downtime. Then again, there are plenty of people that are having no problems with WoW whatsoever. It all really depends on your luck. Also, keep in mind to compare the stability of these games to the period just after they were launched. AC, SWG, etc. have been around for a while and have had ample opportunity to iron out the wrinkles.
well server stability is about the only thing that bothers me. Hell if your mommy and daddy pay for your subscription you probably wouldn't care. But I work in computers, servers, and networks for a large client, I know what it takes to make a network work on large, global scale, and if they put in the minimal amount of planning required they wouldn't have had half the problems they do.
My server is down, every other day, without fail, normally for hours. And almost always the server status says "up" when it is not, and nothing listed in the status forums. For every 1 hour of play time (on my server), there is 15 to 20 mins of standing around waiting for the server to unfreeze. That's not like any other game. No game has that kind of ratio for problems even on the laggiest of servers.
All new games have server issues, some more then others. All the ones people said don't have issues have been out a year plus and are also not at their all time highs for subscribers. Anyways, beyond queues, it seems it is the same 20 servers that have issues, and it is most likely they are in the same server block, which are AT&T servers. It most likely is some bad hardware in there they have yet to find (as making computer hardware goes, you can have very varying amounts of QA in parts).
Basically ask yourself one question "are you having fun when the servers are acting normal?" then ask "are you patient enough to deal with the amount of issues?" If either is a no, cancel and come back later (if you want).

I hear this alot too "Blizzard wasn't prepared for thier success" I have 2 comments for this statement:
1) So what you are saying is the people at Blizzard aren't incompentent coders, they're just too stupid to do market research properly?
2) Blizzard has what 88 servers? EQ2 only has 26 (and that includes the the European servers that aren't counted on blizzards side). That's less than 1/3 the servers and they have about half the population WoW does on the US servers (Blizzard has about 700k on in the US. Rough estimate based on sales), and none of the problems.
Now you're right I don't want to turn this in to a flame war, and I agree if you don't like it quit. You're also right about there will always be people griping about an MMO, but don't make excuses for Blizzard. They dropped the ball big time on this, and you either like the game dispite its faults (and believe me I know all about liking a game dispite its faults: I've been playing SWG since release), or the faults are enough to make you quit.

The tech forum on the offical web site says differently
Don't know how you do it, but so far I haven't managed to spot a single disconnect and I've never have had to wait to get the game going.
Im getting pretty sick of the server issues...i have a 60 rogue on blackrock and am starting to think about going to guild wars when it comes out if things dont improve. I mean its a awsome game, but the lagg is gnarly and my server is always crashing. The servers just cant handle much, my guild got a 140 man raid of lvl 50's + togather to rip up the alliance but the server crashed before we even got to their town.

Thank God, a sane person. I love it when people say that Blizzard just doesn't care. Yeah, I'm sure they don't care that they're losing lots of money on administrators and support personnel working around the clock to deal with the issues.

So how are you gonna predict something like winning the ENTIRE cummulative MMORPG community over for you in the first week? That's not a normal pattern for MMORPG's. They did their homework. This is not how things usually pass in MMORPG world. This has never happened before. How are you going to research that?
Before you tell me that they could've had a clue during beta testing, that information is close to useless. You're not getting accurate numbers from that, since every idiot is going to join up for a fun free game. Buying enough hardware to handle that would have been a bad business decision, because you're potentionally overbudgeting. MMORPG's are a big investment and a huge risk. Many of them don't make it, as you probably know. In the end, it turned out that it wouldn't have been a waste, but who knew?

It doesn't scale like that. You're not gonna get 3x the performance with three times the amount of hardware. There are other factors that count. You're gonna have a lot more problems if you double your player-base. Besides that, Blizzard didn't have the 88 servers at the start and they weren't really prepared for them as they planned to add them over the first year as the player-base grew. The servers aren't optimally configured currently and they're working on that. Yes, that's where they dropped the ball somewhat, but it will probably work itself out. Hopefully.

You're saying some sensible things here, but I'm not making excuses for Blizzard. I just have more patience than the "Blizzard doesn't care about us!" or "Where's my monthly content patch three weeks after launch??" crowd. Then you have the masses of people that know much better than Blizzard how to run a MMORPG: "Just add some dual-Xeon servers!!!1" and "Blizzard is making 30 million a month on subscription fees, they're RICH!!"

It's called Market Research. People get paid big money to predict this exact thing. You can't have it both ways. One way or the other Blizzard screwed up. If you can't see that, then you are just making excuses.

The point here is server population. EQ2's server have more people per server than WoW's. To say overcrowding the servers is the problem is hogwash. What about Linage that has more people than WoW and less servers?
Blizzard has ripped me off bigtime! Not once but twice now. I bought the game and cancelled my account after 1 week because of random server crashes. I could not play over 30 minutes at a time without a black screen of death. Then have to hard boot my comp and fragmenting the hell out of my HD. I waited 3 months and reinstalled and reactivated my account on a brand new computer only to find instead of improving the problem it only got worse. Now i get the random black screen of death every 10 minutes or so cancelled the next day. That's twice i have been ripped off by blizzard. And they DO refuse to acknowledge that the problem is with thier servers. How can they deny it when thousands of people have the same problem. Shame on Blizzard! I will continue to play EQ2 . It has never crashed on me not even a single time. EVER! And it is a hell of a lot better game and community!!! Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
EQ2 has never crashed on me a single time and i cancelled WoW after a week because of random crashes to the black screen of death. And if the truth be known EQ2 prob has more people playing than WoW does. on each server! Check out eq2players.com and do a server player listingi counted 600 names on Blackburrow and that was just those that began with the letter "A"
that is because Blizzard refuses to admit they are incompetent. They want to blame the problems on peoples computers and that is just stupid when thousands of people are having the same random crash problems. I have only played 2 games with that same random crash problem. The other game was Earth and Beyond...And i have played them all!

Yes, many people did. If you can't stand downtime, just cancel subscribtion - It's not like you lose something.
I haven't had any serious issues. I've played on a med-pop server since launch.
downtime is one thing
The fact that you lose so much work night after night of attempting to do instance only to get to the "meat" of the instance and have the server go belly up.
Happened to me 6 times in the last two weeks.
"emergency maintenance"
it gets old eventually.
