Nice to see they're finally releasing Halas. I've been thinking re-starting EQ2 this summer, and this may give me good reason to do so.
Just gotta make sure I don't pick a class that relies on auto attack timers.
Will I be able to play a new character from New Halas if I do NOT have Sentinel's Fate? I have all the expansions up to Kunark.
Yes, you can play it. It is just a game update and does not require a seperate pruchase.
No mention of 3.0 shaders?
I think it's funny that you mentioned how luclin exploded only "50" years ago. When Everquest2 first launched (right out of beta) it was said that we were playing "500" or so years in the future from Everquest 1, and that cataclysms (including the explosion of Luclin...being the cause of all this cataclysm) had "reshaped" the lands over time. Now, they're writing it up as if it only happened 50 years ago? Not only this, but wikipedia has it set at only "15" years ago lol.
All the messed up SOE lore aside, it's good to mention that with this new update they are literally getting rid of the currently starter zone (the islands) and trying to COMPLETELY destroy qeynos or freeport as homecities. A developer at the Everquest 2 office literally said that the team didn't like how Freeport and Qeynos has a "bad habbit" of scaring new people away with how "hard" it is to spring from there to the rest of the game (even though BOTH cities are the central standpoint for the entire game). This has caused very VERY angry protests on the SOE forums. People, quite simply, will not allow their in-game homes for the longest time be moved to another city just because the dev staff "just don't get it".

The Theory of Conservative Conservation of Ignorant Stupidity:
Having a different opinion must mean you're a troll.
ya it annoyed lot of player when this was delayed .this will bring lot of new player since new start area means lot of player will reroll and new player wonth be soloing the low lvl content
this will be one very good occasion to level a character if you never done so.i will probably join the boat since i love this game and nothing i have seen from cataclysm live stream has showed promiss (not enough to warrent the cost .)but we never know
blizzard might bring massive in a new way saw some instanced zone that could fit 1000 player in pvp we ll have to wait and see if they ll stay multiplayer or if they ll bring back massive for cataclysm.
If the the things that fadedbomb states are true regarding the phaseout of the original starter cities then that pretty much makes alll the original 1-50 content of eq2 pointless so they might as well shut down the commonlands, antonica and up just only have the content of eof and the newer expansions.
My current sub expires right before the update and if this stuff comes to pass I'm out for good then as that changes the story of the game which I know most don't care about anyway but it's no longer eq2 then at least for me.
/sigh
Currently on the test server, Qeynos starter quests are still fully functional. I started a dwarf in New Halas, went to Greystone Yard in Qeynos for the dwarven racial quests, then returned to New Halas to continue the new stuff.
Dont see many companies release free full zones like this and neriak, its a shame.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"
Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
If they remove them as starter cities they can update the content outside the city as well. For example, they could rebuild all the original content to focus on the Qeynos and Freeport conflict.
Forever looking for employment. Life is rather dull without it.
I'm a new player to the game.. or returning one if you count my few months of play when it first launched.. However, considering so much of the game has changed over 5 years ago, I'll call myself a newbie.. So far I'm loving the changes and game.. Yes there are some minor things here and there that show up, but no game is perfect.. I'm looking foward to Halas, and from I was told, the only changes to starting in Freeport of Queynos is that the island is getting deleted.. LOL Which to me I never liked that island anyways when I first played it.. It made no sense really.. All Sony has to do is add in a few new quest in the starting cities, and all new toons are set to go.. After I get settled in, I plan on starting alts in both of the major cities as well..
