Yo.

For a coupIe years now I have subscribed to several mmo's and played several trials and such of mmo's but I am having a very difficult time finding a good one, the games I have played include the following.

WoW, EVE, Global Agenda, Lotro, Warhammer, Vanguard Saga of Heroes and Aion.

These are the ones I remember off the top of my head. What I am looking for in a game is:

Good Community, decent PvP, I enjoy PvE very much so that's a big one for me, preferably one thats a eyecandy, and a pretty good combat system.

My computer is practically designed for games so the system requirements aren't very important. So, any suggestion?

Unfortunately, you are standing in the same line many vets are. Personally I am holding out hope for the upcoming Final Fantasy and/or Star Wars.

    Have you tried AoC?

This game is making a good come back after its release woes. It has an expansion out next week so now would be a good time to come back or start and there is alos a trial out so you can try before you buy :)

I was looking forward to STO, but until it comes out with a free trial I don't think I'll play it. So now comes the waiting game to see which big company will shove thier new and improved game out too steal as much of the crowd as possible?

Ah, good idea, no i haven't but I heard it was a fairly decent game.

You sure they have a trial? Can't seem to find it.

I'd recommend AoC, also EQ2 if you haven't played that yet.

Aha! I knew I was missing something when I wrote down the list, yes I have played both "EQ's" but after a while it seemed to get boring and repetitive, this I know may be the bane of MMO's but I still would like a game that I can play without tiring of it.

Wow... It really worries me that I was unable to find either of those trials... Must be going crazy or something.

I'm in the same situation as most, played MMO's the last 9 years and its getting stagnent, needs something new or something that can hold my attention long enough to be interesting.

Currently just messing around with Jade Dynasty as i don't need to be at the computer to lvl up lol....

Waiting on Tera or sercret world or FF to come out and give one of those a go.

Yah, I have tried all of the subscription based games ( I have this bias against F2P, I know i know, I just have had bad experiences). I had high hopes for Warhammer, AOC, Vanguard, STO, Aion, and a few others I'm not thinking of. I had the most fun in Vanguard that I had, had in years since probably Everquest when I was a teenager. I played UO, and DAOC etc. and I think alot of the success those games had were due to just being the only game to play. Now we can just bitch and whine about any game we want, because we can just go down the way and play the other 100 games available. Plus I think back then Devs and publishers didn't give in to complaints and " suggestions " quite as much either.

I think before we would just deal with problems in the game or lack of content by making up our own content, basically we got creative. Currency selling hadn't really happened due to the MMO being so small and insignificant, so the economies were a bit more stable and realistic. Honestly, AOC and Warhammer for me failed due to not hype, not that my expectations had not been met.....I got bored out of the blue after playing for a couple of months. So the games were just not able to hook me....but I want to be hooked...that's the whole damn point! We as gamers DEMAND to be hooked, we can only pay our money, and give our time, it's on the developer to meet us half way.

Vanguard kept me for about 6 months, but I think after so many left, it became a ghost town...it was a great game with potential, but it just was not finished. So other than playing Everquest here and there, only Vanguard hooked me the way I wanted to be hooked. I thought Aion could, but well that turned out to be a clausterphobic grind with bit breasted anime hotties running around. That was a bigger disapointment than Warhammer for me....I played Warhammer for 4 months at least. I didn't even reactivate Aion after the free month.

Don't get me wrong...something is off in the MMO genre right now, I think the right company with the right solutions to all of the problems needs to come around, and stay afloat. WoW in it's grand success is still just another boring endeavor, I farm emblems, wait for my ICC timers, and run randoms...PVP bores me now, as there is nothing new in the game there. The random dungeons are a good idea, but they actually just feel cold, no one has to be nice. So WoW is bringing neat little features in, but is still very bland, boring, and dull right now. I see now at this point in WoW, people are talking about Vanilla WoW and how much fun they used to have... which screams " this does not satisfy anymore ".

I can understand this, there is just a general complaining amongst the MMO players, I enjoyed the genre at first and I still love the concept, but the games are repeating themselves, they don't go off of what we would love to have, they mostly go off of WoW's example and while many people may like that I am not one of them, Its like playing the same level over and over while all they change is the scenery, I'm hoping one of the upcoming games will change that. If not then I guess I'll have to quit the genre until something comes out thats a real eye catcher.

I have to agree  you are missing 2 nice games.EQ2 and AoC.

I would suggest EQ2 over AoC but both are good.

Both have good eye candy but AoC  has better though it a real hog in pc power.

I think EQ2 does have better PVE then AoC though.

    Both have good community.

Veteran player here too. Started with EQ in 1999 and played it for 4-5 years. During that time I played Asheron's Call and Dark Age of Camelot. All 3 games I have nice memories with and finding all the new ones stale.

I'm looking for a game that's like EQ 1, big open world, required to group to level, etc. Not one that wants you to go here, then here, then here and baby-feeds you character advancement. I want a game that makes you work for it like EQ did - not one that pushes you along on a velvet pillow to the end game.

I think the devs and publishers that make the games that "cater to everyone" are making the genre bland.

A game with little to no direction, punishes for dying at level 1, gives you no clue wher your class trainer is or spells are and requires you to explore is what we need again. Do I go here to level? Walk in to the zone and agro half the zone because you're to low and now have to go retreive your body. Or maybe ask the in game community where to go based on their own experiences.

I'm anxiously waiting to see how SW:TOR is going to turn out but with the little information we have, it looks like, so far, it's going to be a pay-to-play-super-awesome-single-player-experience-but-can-group-if-you-want-to MMO. FF14 looks like it might be my next long-term one as long as the combat isn't as slow as FF11...ugh.

I would try out Darkfall if I were you . .. my partner was obsessed with the original EQ and we have been chasing a similar experience while disappointed over and over again (Vanguard came pretty close though . .. unfortunately the game had too many problems to keep people's faith). We found Darkfall and do not see ourselves ever leaving (unless something else comes out that can give as big of a rush with something always to work toward). They are having some serious game-changing patches over the next few months as well that I am very excited for! The 1 week trial ended recently but I heard that they are working on a new trial and a new offer to allow people to try it out.

No instances. No invisible walls. Nobody holding your hand. Never gets any easier. No limits by your level. No auto-target.

Full-loot FFA PVP with PVE required. I know of people who play just for the PVE because of the way it feels to put on headphones and the way you react with the monsters feels a lot more realistic to me than other games (besides Oblivion or Morrowind but those games do not give you a rush and make your blood pump).

Definitely worth giving this game a try. It was released before it was ready and after playing a year I almost feel like I am playing a different game than the one that I thought that I was playing during my first month. I am not sure if I'll ever be able to go back to TAB-targetting full-time again like I did in previous games that I loved . .. it is not for everyone because it puts you on an emotional rollercoaster because some days really suck while other days are incredibly fun. You never know what to expect as you cannot exactly always go the way as planned with your night . .. might end up doing something that feels totally epic out of nowhere.

Well i've been playing MMORPG's since late 90's, and i like you am now having trouble finding oe that really interests me.

You could always try a f2p one out like Cabal Online, has the eye candy at least.

As for p2p mmorpg's i don't really have much to recommend but possibly give Fallen Earth a try.
