Doesnt matter, as long as they do it right. If things seem out of place or are a bit too much in your face about it, then thats a turnoff. But if there is a coke can on a table, I dont care.

completely agree, couldn't have said it better myself
No advertisments in games ever. There are no appropriate placements or times to put advertisements in game. Never.

Although I've not seen it in any game I've played lately, for me it would depend on the game. Modern setting, or even post apocalyptic would be fine for me to see like a coke billboard or something to that effect. In a fantasy setting I don't think it's appropriate.
Game developers are in this to make money and if this is a revenue stream that they can use, maybe it means they'll have more money to devote to game development after release.
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level, then beat you with experience.
I'm paying for a game so no way I'll tolerate any form of product placement.
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play." "Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."
Last thing we need while playing a game....is a Billboard with Coke or pespi in mmos...already get enough of that stuff in real life(tv/ website/ magazines etc)
Played:TheRealm,FFXI,WoW,FE,Eve Playing: Nothing( stuck on a ship) Future play: FFXIV,SW:TOR
I find one of the most upsetting things to encounter in an MMO is a salesman - second only to a PKer and I'm not entirely sure about that order. One of the wonderful things about MMOs is that they are medium that (for the moment) is blissfully clean of the constant barrage of marketting battering at my senses.
"Product placement" is marketingspeak for advertisements. NO advertising!

It totally works in AO. All the billboards have streaming commericials w/ audio that fade in volume as you pass it... though I remember when it was bugged and the Old Spice horse-man haunted me for hours. Otherwise, it works great because it's a sci-fi MMO. Picture a Blade Runner game with all sorts of custom ads made to reflect the style of the game, but with real products.

I despise anyone using a game as a billboard. Period. End of story.
It depends on the game. I don't want to see an elf drinking a Pepsi. But in a game set in the modern world, it's fine.
EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

IDC, as long as it fits the setting.
I agree, as long as it is not a big distraction who cares?

Come on,
You know you want your +5 sword of slaying with its "Sponsored by Coke" golden lettering running along the blade ... Right?

I mean no bilboard no poster .. etc
It would be more like Coldsteel or another sword replica maker company advertising that.
Edit: Bah, didn't quote Demarc. That's who I meant to reply the post on the +5 sword.
To the topic:
I wouldn't mind if it was tastefully done. (Making common sense, ex; no modern in medieval time period)
I'd also want the option of disabling them if it affected my graphics performance.
Otherwise, it's a non-issue. I voted doesn't matter.
