Job, kids, wife, morgage, but still wanna PvP

lojiklojik Member Posts: 38

As many of you are probably in the same situation (job, kids, wife) I am looking for a MMO where i do not need to devote hours of my time a day to progress but when i do play I can have fun and do something in 1-2 hours and feel like I have accomplished something.

I enjoy PvP, preferable faction vs faction or mass war, not into 1v1's or duel systems. prefer 3rd person to 1st person, sci-fi or fantasy, prefer anime over cartoon

I enjoy PvE as long as there is a good story or team work involved

I have about 5-6 hours a week i can devote to MMO's so it needs to be a game where I do not need to spend 20hours + a week just to keep up with the flow.

Games I have played:

EvE Online - 3 Years

Anarchy Online - 7 Years

RF Online - 1 Year

AoC, Rappelz, Kaos, SUN, a few others i cant remember off hand.

Currently Playing:

Jade Dynasty

If anyone has any thoughts on games I should try please shout out.

thanks

The problem with Casually PvP in mmo most players who spend more time have more armor. Aion the last game I could recommend for a Faction pvp system.

You might get more fun if you switch to arena style games. (Dota, heroes of newerth, and league of legends). They have an mmo feel and only take an hour per game but like chess hard to master.

Guild Wars man, can't go wrong with that one.

I don't play it anymore, but WAR can give you that quick PvP fix in 1-2 hours of playing.

I know i might get shouted because this isn't an mmo

but League of Legends is great game. It is a pure pvp game, barely any grinding except to unlock champions

Champions Online has very fast PvP, where it is all about the selection of the skills and the timing at the controls (there is active blocking, for example).   Items/gear are almost completely unimportant, literally like a 5% difference to max out your character in end-game gear.  The whole game is aimed at the kind of casual approach that you are describing, so it really might be worth checking out.   The Tier 2 arenas (level 10-20) are also cool, so you don't even have to work to end-game to get a good taste of the PvP.

All that said, the game is complicated because it is a classless open build system.  Therefore you won't spend so much time grinding for gear or XP as other games, but it does take a longer time investment to design good character builds.

i agree with the league of legends....MMOs aside from GW and War are hard to get into pvp if you have limited time..

League of Legends is my PvP fix  it is really good and games don't take that long  30-50 minutes. with an overall summor level that builds like an MMO (it is basically a talent tree) give it a try it is free and i have over 500 games played and havent spent a dime.

You obviously have never played either titles.

If all you want is a quick PVP fix, or a game with very little time to get there, go with Guild Wars or Warhammer. Hell, do the Tier 1 trial on WAR and enjoy it up.

I heard Aika has some decent PvP, but you pretty much have to be max level to participate.

If you want to PvP from the getgo, I'd say Warhammer too.

The endless free trial is loads of fun in Warhammer.  Ive had a payed sub since before release and i still love to log onto my trial account from time to time for instant, constant fighting.   Before the naysayers come in here and complain about he twinks, they are nothing that you couldnt do yourself in a week with just your trial account.  Calling them twinks is kinda silly as its dirt simple to max out a trial character.

    Warhammer fanatic since '85.

As stated the endless free trial for WAR as long as you do not leave it because if you do you will not have the time needed to compete in the regular game.

You may want to look at some of the singleplayer/multiplayer games on the market those we be more suited for the time you have to play such as Battlefield 2 or even Left4Dead2 you can pve as well as play versus.  Unfortuantly almost every MMO is designed around time sinks and gear grinds you can not do with the time you said you have to play.

guild wars, try league of legends maybe.

I personally found the WAR trial boring. Just...too much like WoW. I'd personally suggest GW or LoL.

They're both great and hella cheap. If you just want PvP, LoL might be the best choice: quick, easy to get into, hard to master. The only problem is the community, if it's your first time playing a MOBA. But all in all, the community is great, played since CB and got alot of help on the forums.

But I'd definitely suggest to try both, they're different playstyles.

I would have to suggest Warhammer also.  I havent played it in a very long time so I have no idea how it is now. I would think t1 will be pretty active but if you sub I would think t2 and 3 might be empty because everyone is t4 by now. So you could get stuck leveling pve style all the way to t4, and that sucks because leveling through pvp was great.

The free trial is endless so you can play t1 forever for free, wouldn't hurt to give it a shot.

Guild Wars, Champions Online and WAR would be best bet. Actually, why don't you just wait to play Starcraft 2. It is pvp for everyone and under 30 min per match.

I too would have to recommend Warhammer.  I just recently resubbed after not having played since launch.  The rumors I heard that it was empty don't really seem true.  I just hit T4 tonight after only 2 weeks, and there's been people, pvp (open and sc), etc to do the whole way.  If you are a casual player that wants a ton of easily accessible pvp, this is the game for you.

WAR or Guild Wars, at best. I had the same problem - not enough time to devote to MMOs because of RL and the simple truth is: time to move on. 5-6h reall isn't enough for most MMOs, especially if you want to PVP. The afore mentioned ones are as close as you can get. Maybe play an FPS? BF - Bad Company2 perhaps? Instant action, strategy and 'PvP', some form of progression. That's what I went with anyway.

  • TorakTorak Member Posts: 4,905

    Obvisouly

Dark Age of Camelot ~ probably your best choice because it's a great game even without the RvR and PvP and is fairly complex

    Guild Wars

Warhammer ~ only if you feel like gambling though, I'm not very optimist of this games future. I wouldn't get to involved with this game

All three of those are pretty undemanding of your time.

  • SovrathSovrath Member LegendaryPosts: 32,955

Well, I love warhammer and would have to give it a thumbs up. But having said that, for the amount of time one has with a wife, children and full time (or more?) jobs, guild wars allows for immediate pvp at lvl 20.

Then again I loved tier one pvp scenarios.

I suppose op, try both. Guild wars might be a little more forgiving on the wallet.

What you want is %1000000000000 Warhammer onine. You can join battlegrounds anytime you want by just queing, you can go rvr in open places, nice story for pve and ubar places. You dont need to play alot you can just login for an hour to do battlegrounds and by getting highranks in a war (which takes 8-15 mins) you get rvr rank aka pvp level. With does points you can buy new gear and especially you can go for city sieges in higher ranks which made me love PvP.Dont believe ppl saying that wow is goof for pvp or so.Your best answer is warhammer or a little bit of aion (grindy damn).Dont believe ppl that says it is dead.If it was dead i wouldnt get in a scenario(battleground) in the second i queue

  • yaminsuxyaminsux Member UncommonPosts: 973

to the OP, that's an extensive list you got there (mine is EvE only)

hate to say this but if you want something casual go play multiplayer FPS games. no subs, log in, kill stuff, log out.

    my two cents
