So, I'm sitting here 9+ months into a 12 month deployment and summer just arrived again. Like a blast furnace. I walked out of my room this morning into 107 degree heat and thought to myself "This is retarded" so I went back to bed. I hate this place. We have finished all we need to with these people. The Iraqi Army are more than capable of handling things on their own. How do I know this your might ask? I am with the 82nd Airborne and it has been our mission since coming over to this hell hole to train up their force, a job that we are really good at. Unfortunately the powers that be say that we have to be here until Aug. Should be nice and toasty by then.
Basically I hate the fact that I can't play any games online cause that lag is just horrible. I have watched ppl try and play WOW with a 7 - 9 second lag..like I said horrible. So I have confined myself to playing some Steam d/l game such as Civ4, KOTOR, Portal, Company of Heros, and Warcraft 3. I have beaten all of these games multiple times so now I just troll the boards wishing I could be playing other games. HAHA

Depending on who you use, you might be able to get a ping on German servers if you try that. I played on Ravenholdt EU when I was over there. I was running a 800-2500 ping when everyone else was running 2500-4000 on US servers.
Just change your realmlist.wtf (google it) to the EU servers and get a WoW EU trial to test the ping. Something is better than nothing.

I love 100+ temperatures...mainly because I'm used to it, so in regards to the weather I say lucky you. August isn't that far off so just hang in there a bit longer and we, the MMO community, will be ecstatic to have you back.
But concerning your connection problem...do like hatter suggested and try finding an EU server, hell just try all of the regional servers except NA. Maybe you can get a decent connection from the oceanic servers? Thought about satelite internet? Maybe you and your buddies would be better off playing *together* on a chinese server (surely those commies won't mind)? Just throwing ideas out there.
Well to add insult to injury, they closed down the Camo Cafe. Our 1 outlet where we could use our own laptops. It closed on 30APR10 and their contract will not be renewed. Now the only thing that we are left with is 5 MWR machines in our company area that we are only at for 5 days every 10-15 day. Although they did set us up with 2 MWR machines out in the field but there is normally 60-70 ppl fighting to get on and skype, email, what-have you. So basically I have no hope of playing anything right now. I am currently focusing my energy on what I am going to spend my deployment money on. I am completely debt free now that I paid off my Silverado and looking to build a 5-6k racing gaming machine. I spend a lot of time on Newegg.com and researching different options. Kind of weird to think that my computer will cost more than 98% of Iraqis make in a year. LOL
