How long (on average) do your gaming sessions last?

Rockgod99Rockgod99 Member Posts: 4,640

Normally my sessions last around two hours on average.

As i've gotten older my play time decreased and i've been struggling to get anything done in my mmos.

So I wanted to ask how long are your sessions and for those in the same boat as me do you run into the same issues?

It's like a constant struggle for me to set a goal and complete it in such a small time frame.

Same here, a couple hours around 3x a week. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

Around 2-3 hours a day if possible.  It's hard to sit down for longer than that even if I wanted to anymore.  Though, I think if there was a game that pulled me in and kept me interested, I might lose track of time and play longer.  I'm not playing any MMO currently, so that's been a problem.

3-5 hours... depending on the time i might save and what day of the week it is. Damn work and sleep taking to much of my game time :P

What I normally do when I get a game is play it obssesively, like all day long for a day or two.  After that I will do the occasional binge on the weekend for around 8 hours at a time, but otherwise I don't usually play them at all, so most weeks I play 0 hours.

I am really bad at doing things in moderation so I either play a bunch or not at all.

All men think they're fascinating. In my case, it's justified

I've taken a break from MMOs. I was playing Allods and I might go back at some point. I could play anywhere from 3 to 6 hours a day with breaks. Not on workdays.
    .
Allods had a feature that kept you from playing too much. A fatigue system. You get so much fatigue points at the start of each day, you run out of fatigue as you earn experience, when you run out of fatigue for that day, the amout of xps you earn is cut in half.
    .
When I go back to WoW it will be 3-6 hours, three nights a week cause that's all we raid is 3 nights each week.
    .
    Well, I might pvp too.

While I am not currently playing one atm when I was it varied greatly. During the school year mabye an hour to two on a weeknight. With probbably 4 hour sessions on the weekend. While during the summer if im not working or doing anything else I generally have really long sessions. Like 10+ hours at a time, but then again I would normally only play like 3 days a week. Although I realize that is still a bit to much.

Lately I just don't find anything compelling enough to play.

I'm looking forward to TOR, the next WOW expansion and GW2.   If Fallen Earth gets housing I'll think about resubbing.  Otherwise it would have to be a game that came out of left field because the genre seems to be moving backwards.  Graphics improve, but little else.

Maybe im playing the wrong games.

I try to set small goals for myself and get frustrated when I don't meet them.

Pisses me off because i really love the Games I play and I dont want to give up on them because i have a casual playstyle.

Varying games for most of the day.  I'm an insomniac so a 'day' can be very long.  On an average about 6 hours+

  • Hopscotch73Hopscotch73 Member UncommonPosts: 971

Varies a lot, right now I'm not working so I have a lot of free time, I don't spend all of it gaming, but I still seem to be notching up 35-40 hours per week at the moment.

When I'm working that goes down to 10-15 hours a week, max.

My gaming sessions last anywhere from 30 minutes to 5 hours, depending on so many things.

I don't play MMOs anymore. I still log in to EVE to change skills, but I doubt I'll be renewing my sub when it runs out. There's just nothing out there right now that grabs my attention. Plus, I need a new PC to even give a lot of the newer ones a try. Although I'll be logging in to Global Agenda when 1.3 hits to check it out (can't afford to subscribe though).

When I did though, I'd play for probably 5-6 hours at a time on a regular basis.

I'm not playing anything atm, but usually I'm putting in 4 hours minimum for sitting time on work/school days and days off im racking 12 hours easily. I also have days I just don't play at all or only log in to check AH and mail and I do that about 1-2 times a week.

Edit: As someone else said, insomnia does play a major role in this. I've learned to love it simply for having more time in the day.

While I'm not playing anything right now, typically I might play 1-2 hours, once or twice a week.  If nothing is happening on the weekend, I might squeeze in 4-5 hours one day.  Otherwise, I'm usually too busy to spend my time sitting in front of a computer playing a game.

Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, Aion, Allods, lots more
Relatively Recently (Re)Played: HL2 (all), Halo (PC, all), Batman:AA; AC, ME, BS, DA, FO3, DS, Doom (all), LFD1&2, KOTOR, Portal 1&2, Blink, Elder Scrolls (all), lots more

If I'm playing an MMO (which I am not currently) I play 30 to 40+ hours a week. Basically any free time I have that isn't doing community service type stuff, or work around the house (honey do lists), studying, playing table-top games or walking my shepherds I am gaming.

Gaming is my #1 hobby currently, be it table-top or computer and I still have plenty of time to do all kinds of other things like hunting and fishing.

It is basically along the lines of until it is no longer fun or it is time to go do something else.  I do not feel any need or rush to complete certain things in the game.  Only a few games out there come even close to having some sort of requirement that you log in periodically to check something or defend something.  Face it, most games are so casual that they have a hard time competing with nick at nite...

The only game I am currently subbed to at the moment is WoW.  I might log in to do a BG or run a random Heroic...or I might not.  I may end up spending a couple of hours doing BGs...or I might not.

Back when I played Shadowbane, I was logged in a lot and at the oddest hours depending on when a bane was going off.  Back when I played EVE, I would log in more often to check the market, do trades, this or that - based on when things were scheduled to require my attention.  WoW, CoH, LotRO, DDO, and so many other games...eh, if I feel like it...

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

Typically 1-4 hours. MMOs aren't a 'pick up where you left off' and 'play for 30min' type of games. Thankfully, might I add.

That is exactly right, and we're not saying NO to save WoW, because it is already a lost cause. We are saying NO to dissuade the next group of greedy suits who decide to emulate Blizzard and Cryptic, etc.
We can prevent some of the future games from spewing this crap, but the sooner we start saying no, the better the results will be.
So - Stand up, pull up your pants, and walk away.

Mine is usually 30-60 mins if im busy that day.  If its a "no life day" as I call it (because I dont work or have school, and have no homework)  I usually play for like 3 hours at a time, take an hour break, then get back on.  But on busy days.. probably an hour max.

Not playing an MMO at the moment but when I did it all depended on what I had to do that day.  If I worked I'd probably play for 1 hour ... maybe 2 and that's it.  On the weekends I'd put in more but once again gaming was never my priority and only there to fill the downtime where I have nothing planed.  If something came up I was up and gone doing it rather then play games.

As for the goals, I never set them.  My goal was to have fun and I did it any way I wanted, but then again my idea of fun is vastly different then the "popular belief".

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Whatever everyone said, add 8 hours to it.

  • Wharg0ulWharg0ul Member Posts: 4,183

Not playing anything right now due to work situation...but I never usually spend less than five hours at a time playing. Been known to play for a couple days without sleep at a time.

Of course, we FINALLY hired someone to take up the extra hours at work, so I'll be able to play again soon, and maybe even get some days off, for once.

1-2 hours on weekdays and maybe 4 hours on weekends

  • DaywolfDaywolf Member Posts: 749

About three hours every other day, depends on what's going on. Used to play more, but that was before mmo's changed, when group oriented stuff was more common. As it's easire to solo in your own instance now so dire need lfg isn't as common with other players, far less.
