Sony Online Entertainment has released 15 new screenshots and a new trailer for the upcoming Halas Reborn update to EverQuest II.

image

Halas Reborn introduces the rebirth of Halas, a popular zone in the original EverQuest, to EverQuest II as a new starter zone.  Halas has reappeared on an island in the Frostfang Sea and includes content for both new and high level players, including two new raids, new housing, themed Marketplace items, a new simpler and more intuitive quest journal in the form of the Storyteller system, and lots more!

Halas Reborn is set to go live on May 25, and players who login between May 25 and 28 can receive a Frostpaw Kitten through the in-game Marketplace. In order to be eligible accounts must be in good standing, and there is a limit of one Frostpaw Kitten per character.

Click the image above or go here to watch the Halas Reborn trailer. The new screenshots can be found in our EverQuset II gallery.

...a popular zone in the original EverQuest...

What?  Was it?  I don't recall that being the case =)

Awesome, I lvoed Halas in EQ.. It was the first place I ever seen in the original eq.. My first character was a barbarian warrior.. Halas was awesome.. I remember the first time I heard  a level 26 enormous Wooly Mammoth walking, my computer literally shook and vibrated, lol.. Then I gazed upon him in awe,,,,, 5 seconds later it attacked me with it's husks and 1 shot me LOL... I was only like level 8 then,, but that was one memory I'll never forget...

The new Halas zone is pretty awful according to quite a few people who have tried it out on the test server.

It retains none of the charm from the eq1 version.

The only positive point to it is the player housing options there. They are the best in the game so far.

But as a starting area, not so good.

Sure it was. I spent a lot of time there when the game first came out. There were always a lot of people out there.

Halas is my favorite starting area so long as I don't have to use shader 3.0. The colors are too dark or dull. Snow is NOT blue under any circumstance.

It sure is in certain not uncommon circumstances : http://www.seacoastonline.com/articles/20100127-LIFE-1270338

And glaciers are also often blue in color.  It's the same principal behind the fact that ocean water is actually clear (put some in a bucket and check it out), but in quantities that can affect the refraction of light by filtering out more of the red (i.e. actually in the ocean) it appears blue.

Ever hear of making a silk purse out of a pig's ear?  Should not these fantastical graphics and design efforts be put into EQ3?

most awesome memory of playing a barb in halas was having to cross blackbarrow to get to qeynos once you outgrew the tundra ....

good memories of old eq there .

Yeah aside from housing, New Halas is one big dissapointment. A huge letdown!

There is also an outcry going on, as they plan to dissable Quenos and Freeport as Starting Cities with this update. So people are forced to start in either Kelethin or New Halas.

Well... it's SOE and they have a monopoly when it comes to severely pissing off their playerbase time and time again.

    ...or Gorowyn or Neriak.

The Qeynos and Freeport experience do not stand up to the new zones.  They're trying to stop brand new players from dropping into old, less polished content and getting a bad experience.

Everyone is getting so up in arms about this, but how many new characters do you actually create?  People talk like they create a new character every week, but there's limited character slots.

We don't know all the details of the planned changes yet, so I wish people would settle down until they know what's happening.

Oh please. Kelethin is an awful starting area. Especially for new players. They get lost all over the place in Greater Feydark. Not to mention Kelethin itself is horrible.

Gorowyn is ok, but a pain for brandnew good aligned players to get to, as they have to start in a Good aligned starter area first and then try to make their way to Timorous Deep.

New Halas I found incredibly boring and got fed up with it within 15 mins on Test.

The starter islands aren't bad at all. In fact, I enjoy them a lot. And so are many others.

It's just the loot that's a bit outdated. But with the speed you level and the lack of challenge it's not that much of a fuzz.

No matter how you try to put it. Removal of content is BAD BAD BAD! Period!

And if a ton of PAYING and LOYAL customers are ENJOYING the Starter Islands. Who are the Devs to be so incredible arrogant to deny them (who pay their salaries) and remove it??!

Not true. You are able to start in Kelethin, Halas, Gorowyn (Timorous Deep), or Neriak....not just Kelethin and Halas. Where did you get THAT idea?

And no offense to all the people whining about them getting rid of the starter island, but imo....it wasn't a very good indicator of the game. I always thought it made things seem far too condensed and not expansive. It always FELT like it was on another server. Never felt like a real part of the world to me, but hey....everyone has a different view of that.

Anyway....I think losing the starter isle for Qeynos and Freeport is no great loss. Just my two cents.  So not ALL paying customers give a rat's patootie about the starter island, just so ya'll know.  I haven't seen but a VERY few people that disliked the idea on my server at all. So who knows what the actually ratio IS of people that hate the idea vs. either liking it or not caring about the change at all?  Who knows?

No my god don't ruin Halas please! I loved Halas it was so immersive, well made can't believe they'll introduce my all time favorite city in Eq2.

We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
