Should Funcom give compensation for extended down time?

Disclaimer: Moderators, I know there is a similar thread, but this is a topic on our playtime and lost money due to downtime!

Funcom should consider compensating the players that play on the servers that were down most of the day.

There should be some sort of compensation considering there is about 20K or more playing this game. Hence Funcom has the revenue to implement servers and hire folks to do a /restart ~load game content.

Funcom has the ability to actually complete a  /RESTART (I hope). I have worked in the industry too long and know that w/ the proper HANDS and equipment this "restart/reload and inscription of new patch to overwrite content to fix bugs or adds, which they so conveniently call "Maintenance" could actually be done within 3 to 5 minutes.

Guess they figure we can wait rather then spend some money on hardward that would allow the implementation to go faster.

This is very disguraging especially for those who work odd hours and have Tuesday and Wednesday's off.

But Funcom is not really fooling anyone when they say the server will be down.

Additionally if they know they are having serious problems it would be polite to tell us that they anticipate down time to be 12+ or more hours (perhaps a day). Instead they give minor update like extended downtime 3+ hour first. Then they are telling us downtime will be an additional 3+ hour and when that hour is up then tells us there will be yet another hour wait time, then when that hour is up they tell us they anticipate 3 hours of down time. (yes, this really happened many times).

This approach to informing customers of technical issues is just plain CRUEL. But then again, this is just my humble opinion.

I just want 24 time of free playtime due to  the extended downtime or a cut in the montly fee.

    No.

I believe most EULA's state the company reservers the right to bring down the servers/interrupt service when the deem it necessary.

Well, there you go, DaSpack has indicated that they would so moot point.

I'm a supporter of any MMO company giving free gametime to compensate for extended downtimes. I remember when EQ and WoW first launched they both had so many issues that I got about a months free play time which kept me from getting upset about not being able to play.

This is tough....if it were downtime due to a stupid bug or some other issue...I'd be all for free time.

But this is downtime to ensure that they are implementing a massive new patch properly.

I wish people could just be more patient and understand how things work instead of immediately demanding things in return simply because they can't find anything better to do for a few extra hours.

Ugh...at some point Devs will look outside the box.

This is a pointless thread. There is not going to be any compensation. That is not how things work.

They are implementing a new expansion. It more than likely will not be 100% smooth. Not because it is Funcom like most people rip on. I played other games where there was massive downtime when they were either launching or implementing new content (Aion and WAR).

It is funny how people start complaining immediatly when they cannot have something now now now or if it inconvieniences them in any way what so ever.

I thought that the downtime for making new content/fix error/apply patch was a part of the monthly fee.

The patching takes 5 mins, the testing takes hours. And when testing they find other bugs/incomplete fixes which needs to be patched and then tested again.

    And you have industry experience...?

It'll depend on how Funcom wants to appear to all the whiney, moaning/QQing players on the forums.

Although, even if they were to compensate the time, people would still complain. And such is the way, of the interweb.

    Old link :)

There will most likely be a couple of days added for the downtime - they usually hand it out like candy.

What he/she says above.  Expansions are complicated, lots of coding, testing ect..... You couldn't play for 1 day, big deal....watch a movie or go to a bar and have a few beers.

Funcom have given compensation a few times before due to unexpected downtime, and I guess they might toss a day worth in this time too.  2 or 3 more of these downtimes and I can get myself a full cup of coffee wort of refunded playtime! whohoo!

  • marz.at.playmarz.at.play Member UncommonPosts: 912

No compensation required. They did a good job considering this was an expansion, and not a bug fix. This is a great game, and it just got better, once people start playing again, they will forget that it was down when it was. I can't wait to go home and play again.

Funcom has shocked me, they've come a long way since when they first released AOC and everyone bailed, including myself. The truth is that most of the MMO's out there are pretty bad atm, and this one is actually a lot better and much improved. Look at STO...what a complete failure, and WAR's hanging by a thread.

It doesnt really bother me personally. This was finals week for me anyways so any lost time I wasnt even around for anyways.

Had the downtime been like a week, I would say yes, but half a day no, I dont really see the need for that seeing it happens to WoW about every Tuesday.

Not too fussed for free time. FC are pretty god for this and the Dev Dudes inc.  Sil (the Game Director) do hand out game time if it's appropriate.

they wilkl give out freetime but they cannot announce it too soon

Todays downtime is to fix and thats another 6 hours perhaps it will be more.

SO they are likely to see the total downtime till the exp becomes stable and offer compensation

a day off your subscription would be cool.. but waht we can do about it

  • FalfeirFalfeir Member UncommonPosts: 492

if some company (which does not charge monthly fee btw) can update their game while you are playing, you really dont have an excuse. Well, you can always have an excuse but its not what you are selling, its what we are buying.

And i think funcom will give a days compensation, they did before if memory serves right, for some unannounced 12+ hour offline period

    I need more vespene gas.
