A couple of questions after coming back

So I just came back for the first time since launch, already in T4 and having a blast. I noticed I had gotten a couple of crests: 1 Royal and 1 invader. However, I have no idea how I got them. So, how do I get these crests? also what are they for? I see in Altdorf there is a Royal Quartermaster, but when I hover over the costs of his items it says it requires Royal Insignias. Are these different than the Royal Crests or the same? If they are different can you explain to me what insignias are and how i get those as well. Thanks in advance.

These are all differen't types of currency and Royals are the best type. There are CRESTS that give you Armor sets and there are insginas that give you WEAPONS. You need to be in a guild to use the CRESTS I believe but I am not 100% sure.
Crest's = Armor, Crest's are obtained through various act's of RvR. As, loot from a dead enemy player for example. Their renown rank will effect what kind of crests you can obtain. RR78 for example, he/she might drop a Royal nom nom nom nom, or another example would be, being rewarded in taking part of a city siege.
Insig's= Weapons, Insigs are obtained by doing scenarios.
Each different one repersent's a different set of gear or weapon, which is based on renown level. Conq = 40-50, Invader 50-60, Warlord 60-70, and Sovereign 70-80(Royal).
