i liked his "we were just trying to make the game look as good as possible" when he got called out about the game videos being misleading. There's a difference between that and creating sequences that don't exist or creating the impression that certain features are in game that don't exist (bridge combat/bridge view).
Wildcat got banned as well over the thread I think.

I'm surprised they banned him; Jacob's posts about how to make Star Trek Online a great game have been a staple of the forums since way before closed beta started. While I didn't always agree with him, his posts were well done; there was nothing in that post by him that I saw as being worthy of a ban, outside of him calling out Cryptic for mistakes made.
*Edit* Found out why Jacob got banned I think:
[This post has been moderated by GM Destra - Discussing Disciplinary Actions, Harassing Material Towards Cryptic Employees]
If it was someone else, I would have just shrugged my shoulders and thought maybe they had lost their temper with Cryptic momentarily. However, he was going out of his way to not provoke a Dev (especially Phoxe) into banning him:
"When speaking of being infractinated upon, I find it best to speak in code or make up neologisms or both (as i did in the first part of the sentence). I for one would like you to stay on the forums, so you may want to amend your post.
When discriminated against, I actively try to fly under the "radar" so that our dear Phoxe has no ammunition. He's proven a worthy cute puppy (notice my going out of the way to avoid being given "love" for use of "vulgarity") given the obviously, and ridiculously insane circumstances for which I have been given affection for previously."
"Oh my, how horrible, someone is criticizing a MMO. Oh yeah, that is what a forum is about, looking at both sides. You rather have to be critical of anything in this genre as of late because the track record of these major studios has just been appalling." -Ozmodan

Its very sad to see Jacobs voice silenced. I've been friends with him since before the game launched hopefully I will see him in eve soon and discuss this with him.

I can see why they banned him, though I feel it was pretty heavy-handed of them; the puppy comment (in regards to Phoxe) and the indirect mentioning of recieving prior infractions was what got him. Not that I don't think they wouldn't have done so anyway, had he not made that post; even though he was trying to offer constructive criticism, the Devs there seem to have developed a zero tolerance policy for those who have any issues with the game. It's a pity, as I would have liked to have seen Jacob's reply to Ivan's post.

All I have to say is... look to the hills on the 18th.
Being the OP of the thread that was mentioned, I have to say that things have worked out well with the bann and all. Had I been active at the time, I likely would have replied in furies, but thankfully... this little "holiday" from the Cryptic forums which they have given me has given me time to think and pause.
My response to Ivan will be posted the day the ban lifts from my account on the STO Forums.
In the mean time, if any of you would like to post your thoughts on the thread in general, or your perceptions of Ivan's response, I'd love to hear it. I may even quote you in my rebuttal ;-)
Anyway, I'm not too active on the MMORPG.com forums, but I actually spend quite a bit of time on this site.
posting how you feel about what cryptic has done (when its not positive) is a really bad idea if you want to continue posting/playing. ie. i had allready decided that i wasnt interested in playing sto again when i suggested they sell the title to a company that had some talent at making mmo's. stating the blatantly obvious (that cryptic is incompetent and unprofessional) isnt going to earn you friends there or effect any real change. i dont blame cryptic at all for trying to clean there forums up, it just makes me wonder why they didnt do it from the start so that it didnt turn into a huge outcry.
of course i also wonder why they didnt just admit they cant make a playable game in 2 years or less. i guess they have bought themselves some time, but eventually there business practices will catch up to them.
IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME

Cheers all,

Ask them for me if you would... why cryptic thinks its all right to take on the "spit out an MMO every 18 months" approach when it comes to Star Trek, and did they honestly not think the game deserved more respect and effort than the dev time of a single player second rate console game? The franchise has been around for what... 40 years now? And this is the type of product we get thats supposed to represent that?
Naw... you dont have to ask that... just how I feel. Good to see you on here though jake.
yeah, and again, if you subbed to sto with a cc, check your statement if you "cancelled".
Even if you cancel your subscription before the free month runs out, you still have to pay for the 1 month needed to actually activate your account.

Um what? That would be an mmo first. Unless scamming customers after they cancel is also part of cryptics new business model.
What the...?
You only played your FREE month, but you got to pay another one you won't even play? Wow, Cryptic indeed has a new business model...I call it rip people off then run...

Unless they changed things since launch, that is wrong; if you cancel before the thirty day free period is up, you shouldn't be charged. That's how people were able to get refunds on their lifetime subscriptions; they were still in their 30 day free time so the payments hadn't kicked in yet technically, even though money had been charged. If you had to pay for a month before getting the thirty days free time (I think I remember one company doing that a few years back), then Cryptic would not have refunded any of those lifetime subscriptions. The person in that thread should contact Cryptic about the situation, and if that doesn't work (as has happened with Cryptic too frequently), then they should do a charge back from their bank.
*edit* Sent that OP a PM explaining that the second poster was incorrect, and what to do to fix the problem. Hopefully, he'll be able to get it squared away.

anyone still playing play the undine stf yet? From what I got from the boards, it's pretty much a buggy zergfest. Fight through a horde of borg interact with 4 consoles.... oh wait.... fight through a horde of undine, interact with 4 consoles fight through more undine. Seems like cryptic is keeping the repetitive mission theme going throughout their end game so people who madei it to RA5 won't feel left out.

good. My sub is up so I couldn't post to tell him that. The second guy is just clueless.

I ran the Terradome twice already with my fleet, and we had a great time. It's got some unique environments and a few new mechanics with an interesting storyline. We made it to the final boss room, but failed to find the right strategy to get him down. Gonna try again tomorrow.
Of course, we like spending our time in the game, not on the boards.

Good to hear, but after seeing what they did with the Doomsday Machine, I have little confidence in their creativiity.

You make exceptions, apparently.

That account flipping was happening often in March 2010 and it sounds like that guy was caught up in it.
Customers that decided in February that the game wasn't worth subscribing to, hit cancel then along came March and it was as though they never cancelled and Cryptic were merrily thieving their money. It sounds like that guy got hit up to three times for a subscription he didn't want. Good luck getting any money back even though he deserves it back, Cryptic's billing GMs will give their standard scripted refusal instead of applying a few brain cells, checking the customer hadn't logged in and knowing their own billing system in fact had problems during the period in question. Be up to his bank then to take some action.

i wonder if ivan gets paid for each to lame ass "i dont know what your talking about" response he gives.
i love how he states that "its industry standard", actually no, thats standard for f2p.

Gene rodenberry should be rolling in his grave with all the drama this is causing.
The star trek IP is already so tightly controlled that im amazed they let this happen.

well soon they will have banned everyone who doesnt have nice things to say, and then cryptic will have a finished game that everyone will like!

The purpose of marketing is to sell garbage, because quality will sell itself.
Make a quality game, show it to players through open beta and free trial, release a hit game.
Marketing exists in business because it is cheaper than producing quality products.
