Tyrannis Delayed

mklinicmklinic Member RarePosts: 2,014

Haven't seen this posted here yet, so here it is: http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=762&aid=105650&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=update&utm_content=evenews&utm_campaign=tyrannis

I figure it's probably a good thing it was delayed after the recent downtime issue. Better to take an extra week or so to test, test, test :)

Disappointing but with good explanation and reasoning.

Better late than buggy. Sad day though.

It's only a week, after all.

    No biggie.

I would rather it release in working condition than releasing and fucking up the whole client.

    Testing what?

Eve's been running a Tyrannis client test on SiSi (test server) for over a month now.

The only part of this expansion that I'm personally interested in is the insurance change and any hypothetical improvements to the lag situation. Neither of which actually require an expansion to implement.

I get that P.I. is vital for setting the stage for Dust-514, but it's not actually important until Dust launches.

Makes sense, and one week isn't much of a delay. I also like how they're not letting anyone actually take advantage of anything until two weeks after launch. Testers do have an edge in that sense because they're already familiar with the ins and outs of the system. Letting everyone else catch up is nice.

This is pretty much where I am at. That said, I am a bit interested in Eve Gate as well, but that doesn't really have any affect on my playing (that I have been able to determine at least).

I'm pretty annoyed about Cosmos New Eden Spacebook Eve Gate to be honest. It has one giant flaw: CCP assumes that your friends in game are not red to you. The entire concept assumes that your contacts wouldn't happily massacre you if they meet you.

I'd like to be able to organize my contacts and friends on evegate independently from tq standings..

It's not like secrecy and deception really have anything to do with the game.

CCP has already stated that both PI and Dust will fully function without eachother.

I don't know if you've tested PI yet. If you have the items and materials off those planets are pretty important.

I'm sure Dust can "function" without EVE, but the interrelation between the two games is it's USP. Without that, it's basically just Yet Another Console FPS.

As if EVE players really need a new expansion,  since it is a complete SANDBOX, and players of EVE are proud f this.

they can craft their own fun ;p

but still,   better late than bugged indeed

Doesn't hurt to have more tools shape stuff in the sandbox, though.

    true, true ;)

ah well, i played the whole EVE trial, it was pretty fun, i actually liked everything about it except for the combat :(

I might be coming back to EVE, but then in DUST 514  ;)

Calling them expansions is actually not right in my opinion. It is a nice simple label to put on it when talking about it though. Eves "expansions" are more or less big content patches adding new features and such. I think of them somewhere in between an expansion and content patch in other MMOs. They typically don't expand the game world or raise caps as such but they do more than just add a couple new things to explore.

They should work on keeping the freakin server up!

It's perception.  A patch is a basically a small expansion and an expansion is basically a large patch.  They're virtually interchangeable with the exception of the person's perception.  Your description seems to fit games that are rather "standard" in their formula with level based characters and globe-based worlds.

But essentially it can be applied to Eve as well.  With most expansions they reintroduce more skills (increasing level cap).  Planetary Interaction is basically opening new land masses to utilize (expanding the game world).

It's worth noting that PvE combat is a rather different to PvP.

Hence why I mentioned "in my opinion" and why "I think" they fit somewhere in between an expansion and a content patch compared to other mmos. Yes of course Eves expansions are expansions but they generally not quite the overall game change an expansion is in other mmos but does offer more than just a content patch of other mmos. While intrducing new skills and things like PI is kind of like raising level caps and opening new land masses they aren't mandatory or must do things within the game.

Every expansion CCP has released has been super buggy... I would prefer to wait for a "less" buggy version. Although I would like to see EVE Gate asap as they block me from playing at work but not facebook or anyother social (crapfest) networking site. Being able to send Eve-mail and chat with corpmates on a coffee break will be nice!

Also I want to do the planet ruler thing, but I assume I will have to sign in and claim one 2 min after downtime or not get one at all as all of them will be claimed by hardcore players (the ones with no life besides eve) in the 30 secs after downtime.

Like everything in an mmorpg having no job or friends or sleep allows you to "win" in most catagories... sad I know.

    WTF podded again?

EVE wouldn't be EVE without some fresh terrible gamewrecking bugs or flaws in a new expansion.
