FFXI.....never even knew about mmo's before some of my friends started playing this in 2004 and I got hooked to it immediately. Still my favorite game even though i dont have time to play it now days.

The year was 1998 and the game was Ultima Online. I loved UO because of the freedom it gave you. UO still offers more than any MMO on the market today in my opinion. It's sad that UOX got canned when it did. I think if they were to ever make a sequel with the same core game mechanisms it would be a hit. Too bad EA/Mystic own the rights and it will never happen.
UO:T2A (Nov 98). played until EQ released in March of 99.

My first MMO was CoH. I played it on and off for 4 years even after my hubby left to play WoW. The community was great and I was in a wonderful SG. Made many friends whom I still talk to today. Great times and great memories.
Though I have been reading up on the expansion coming out. I don't think it does enough to lure me back. I do wish the game well, though. It deserves its place in MMO history.
First mmo I played was EQ. First mmo I played for more than a week was Lineage 2.
So, I take it EQ was your first 49.99 waste of money on an MMO? I wonder if there should be a thread on how much money we've wasted on MMO's that we didn't play long enough to have even justified the initial purchase......
I didn't pay attention the small print and was in a hurry so I grabbed what looked like a cool super hero game off the shelf. I had avoided MMO's up till this point for all the reason non MMO'ers always give. But determined not to have wasted my money i subscribed and the rest is history.
The first mmo i played was Diablo II and the expansion Lords of Destruction, dont shout at me if its not classed as an mmo, but the fun i had playing with ppl from different parts of the world was outstanding, i then moved on to play DAoC.
i played DAoC at a friends house for like 3 hours. I didn't really like the game, but i loved the concept. Then I tried Anarchy Online and loved everything about it. Played it for over 3 years.

Either I started with Earth & Beyond and moved on to Asheron's Call, or the other way around. My memory of the time is a bit hazy, heh. Regardless, both were excellent games. Screw EA for what they did to Westwood Studios.
1st MMORPG for me was UO bbut for years before that on the old BBS systems before the internet was available to the general public, we played tradewars and several other titles where people took turns logging in to send their time/turns trading goods, upgrading ships, taking over planets and such, of course it was all text. Land of Devestation actually had a client to download so yuo could get all of 16 color graphics but both games you could encounter the other players characters and interact with them.

Tradewars was an awesome game man. I was playing it like crazy with a few friends in 1991. Had some good times on those old BBSes.

I started Neverwinter Nights(AOL) in the early 90's and played that on and off for years then I moved over to Meridian 59 when it released.
UO, and would love the class-less/skill based system combined with quests and storyline in a future MMO.
