Mage class to solo with?

ShariShari Member UncommonPosts: 746

Which one is better to solo with, Necro, Demo or HoX? I have played all 3 on the trial and tbh I love playing them all lo, so I can't decide which to go with. Just wondered which is easier to solo with later on in the game?

(not that this will make up my mind as I serously like them all)

btw I'm not interested in pvp

I have only played 2 characters to 80, a Hox and a Guardian. PVE wise, I enjoy the HoX, it was something diffrent and fun. A serious glass cannon ball. But you can AoE kite effectively if you know the class. Fun class, good dps, and great soloablity. imo.

I am about to get RoTGS and shake the dust off my HoX and see what new content there is.

I love the HoX myself.  Nuttin' like a huge sword wielding wizard with a move like "I Eat Your Heart"!  Their contract of protection keeps you pretty well damage free for a good while, too, lest ya aggro dozens of mobs...

But I bet the Demo is a good solo class as well.

I found HoX easier to solo. Though, my HoX is only 64 and I only got the demo and necro to 30s. You might try the official forums too.

I just found HoX's close AoE is great in PVE since most mobs rush up on you anyway, and there isn't enough constant CC to stop it.

Im gonna pick between the Demo and HoX me thinks.

melee, nuke or nuke, nuke. This is gonna be a tough choice

Both are great fun and PvE powerhouses, especially with dealing with multiple NPCs :-)

The big difference I guess is, demo can do it in medium to long range, and HoX in close combat.

Also I find melee combat in AoC more entertaining than caster combat, due to the positioning when you want to hit as many mobs as possible, and the more 'real' feel of the combat when doing melee, my Hox in combat kept me more engaged into the battles than my demo. But that's personal preference.

Well, I just rolled an HoX and I'm enjoying it a lot. It seems to have a high survivability in close combat and is very fun overall. Haven't had any trouble soloing yet and I'm 35. Love this class.

Why not get a Dark Templer like me, you can equip plate armor and use magic attacks.

Necro is easy mode.....but fun, regardless.

HoX is a bit too squishy for me.

Demo....just could never get into it.

Weird, quote window got all bugged.

    Anyway...

Yeah no joke, how many pets do Necros get? I thought 4 was a ton when I had that at like level 10 or so, but now I'm seeing folks running around with like 4 mutilators and 8 zombies or something...what does the cap end up at?

Also does the Demonologist get pets or are they more direct damage?

Currently playing: LOTRO, Guild Wars 2.
Have played: EVE Online; Champions Online; Age of Conan; City of Heroes/Villains; Star Wars Galaxies (pre-CU, pre-NGE); World of Warcraft (Vanilla to Cataclysm); Hellgate: London; Warhammer Online; Lord of the Rings Online; Vanguard: Saga of Heroes; Star Wars: The Old Republic
    Wishlist: Mass Effect Online

I'm loving my HoX at level 34.  At first it didn't seem to be working but once I got into the late teens it all came together.

Biggest plus: you both spell fatalities and melee fatalities.

Demos have some nice AE spells but its pretty much just mashing the same nuke button over and over.

Haven't played a necro...if you want a real army of undead at your command it looks like they fit that bill.

Oddly enough, with frozen hatred, parisitic soul swarm, and feats / AA figured in....a LOT of freakin' pets. I really dont know what the cap is, but it's kind of fun to see just how many I can get going at once.

Demonologist......their "pet" is more of a buffbot than anything. The demonologist derives part of it's power FROM it's pet. It's more of a DD type.

Ahh Demo or HoX, bit of a tough one. Both can be quite fun. I personally like the HoX, if your skilled right they can be stayers and offer some decent offensive stuff too.

    Hi

I have played several classes into the 50s.

I would have to say that the easiest to solo is the Necromancer.

At level 50 you have 8 pets, and some really potent spells for close combat plus several armor buffs.

I just started a new one for the new race, and am almost through Tortauge.

    Still having fun.

Couldn't get into Demonologist, the pet is just too weak.

It gives you some good buffs but other wise seems useless.

Maybe this changes at higher levels, but not a lot of fun up to 15.

If you shoot a mime, do you have to use a silencer?

Hit 42 on my Demo tonight. The pet is pretty much a visable DoT and buff, nothing more, unless you spec into it, then it will do some damage, but nothing to write home about.

I have a lot of fun with my Demo, but it is bland.  At level 42 I spam FoG, Hellfire Stream, Shock, repeat until lingering flames builds up, detonate, repeat. If I get a big enough pull I throw in my AoEs.

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

Nope the demo pet is still rubbish.  Seems a wasted opp tbh.  Still I feel like that about the Necro, you don;t really raise the dead you have "pets".

Although I do normally play a Necro, lots of options.

Personally i think your best going for a Necromancer.

I have just started the game and played all the mage classes to early 20's. HoX is fun, but the necromancer was more my play-style and i'm currently level 33.

I advise you to level to 30 on your necromancer, spec reanimation and run with 3 magus and 2 corrupters. You can solo 4-6 mobs your level easily.

Having done my first run of Black Castle last night, the necromancers skills really shine. I could keep a corrupter as an occasional off-tank, slow adds down and kite them while keeping my DoTs up. On top of that, things get tough, use fear to give the healer time to work her magic.

Its a lovely class. Try it! :-)

    Playing: Nothing
Played: EQ1, EQ2, VG:SoH, WoW, AoC, LoTRO, Aion, L2, DF, WAR.
    Favourites: EQ1, VG:SoH, Original WoW.

Necro class would be great for you because you just cant die really vs PVE with the abillity to drain your pets life to heal your self stacked with a healing pot. Necro class have so many tools to get him out of any type of situation with skills like; 2 type of fear, 2 type of roots, slow, 3 ways of healing, pet damage buffs, Dots, mana and stamina drain, and a shit load of pets.  For PVP, necro class are one of the most hated classes in game due to the fact the we owned in many ways and players tend to gank the hell out of you with 2  or sometimes a full damn raid group, most of the time we can take on 2 players out in the world if done right. As for one vs one that player just have to be better than you to win. HoX, Demo and Guards classes give us necro a good fight, you would have to go all out vs those classes.

depends on what you're looking for when you say "Mage class" HoX is my favorite class in AoC easily. but it doesn't "feel" like a mage class in the normal sense.to me they play more like a Melee class seeing that all the "nukes" they get are melee range. unless you go down the posession tree and pick up flame lash, i pull with that some times or start off with it. tho i never really felt like they was squishy, i was playing an assassin an it was pissing me off how much he died so rerolled my HoX on a pve server to try and get the hang of the class again since i'm a noob anymore >.<

i played necro a bit i like the AoC take on the class its fun to have your own little army with you at all times.

Demo i never really played much because i hated that skank pet they have (succubus) but now that they let us pick wich pet we can use i'm gunna give the class a real go this time. I always liked how the Incubus pet looked.

since i've been gone so long i've been just deleting old toons and rerolling them.i did keep my HoX on cim tho for if i wanna pvp a bit.

Demo was my favorite caster but people tend to harp on it for some reason. It has awesome firepower and doesnt lag everyone like the Necro army.
