My male troll berserker has to have the same name as my female high elf priestess?
No thanks!
I wouldn't have any problem with optional surnames although I personally wouldn't adopt the same one for all my characters and wouldn't want to be forced to do that.
when I play a MMO I like to be known as jezvin, not (random name) jezvin or (other random name) jezvin
It dosn't matter if I'm a warrior or a elementalist a human or somthing else I like to go by Jezvin in MMOs.
I think from now on every game that I decide to play the first thing I am going to do is log in the second a server opens and create a character called "Jezvin" first. Then i wont have to play with this guy since he will move to a different server. The funniest part will probably be his rants on the game's forum how someone stole his name.
A lot of the replies to this seem pretty negative. It seems most people are rooted into this system where every character has to have their own name.
It's easy to look back at what the current system and imagine what a horrible implementation of what I’m saying could mean. Without the experience of always having a common tag/name it's hard to see any benefit.
I think it takes a bit of creativity to look a something new to see the potential of what it can mean and how it can make things easy.
I really think it could open up a whole new aspect of making an alt for a lot of people.
I do not want any of my alts having the same name, not because I am against something new, not at all. I am against it because I enjoy getting " lost". When you have a character that is very well known it is better to have other characters you can go be a nobody on. I actually do not like the whole shared friends list thing either, and bought an additional game just to be able to really be lost.
It blows when you want to go get lost in random arenas and have the entire other team log out because you just wiped them all out. With an alt you can play without them knowing your coming, and actually have a game.
Not just that though, When you have someone following you around stalking you, you can log into your alt and still play unannoyed by the creepy stalker.
People are entitled to hold a different opinion without having it labelled "negative". It doesn't mean they are opposed to change, merely that no good reason has been put forward for that change.
The very same name for all characters is a good idea IF it's optional. I, for sure, will use it for some alts. Still, I'd very much rather to see GW2 allowing 2 names, like GW1 did. This way you can have the same family name while chosing a different prename for all your alts. Looks more realistic and fun to me. On top of that, 2 names allows you to make a similar family name with all your rl friends or guildmembers for example. But yeah, I like your idea and have wondered before why this option doesn't exist.
