Runes of Magic: Chapter III Goes Live Tomorrow; Downtime Announced

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

We've got some good news, and some bad news. The good news, Frogster has announced that Chapter III: The Elder Kingdoms will go live tomorrow, May 18th. The bad news? The game servers, the regular website, and forums will be down as part of a scheduled downtime that will last a full 24 hours.

The regular website will be replaced with a "special site" for Chapter III and will feature a new trailer as well as a countdown clock letting you know just how much longer you'll have to wait to get back into Taborea.

Be sure to check out our Chapter III interview with Runes of Magic Community Manager John "Virtes" Lazlowe for more information on the update.

[Thanks Piasek for the tip!]

Well since they've done this whole "count down" thing with the main site, with not much else to it, I wonder if we'll get to see the patch notes before they're done with the release. I would just really like to read them before the exspansion comes out, gives me something more to do while I'm waiting. ; )

    @ ganjnehri:

The "IP bans" are based on the licensing agreements made with Runewaker Entertainment Corp. (the game's developers) and have to take into account the market area(s) claimed by the other game companies who have licensed the same content.  If you are in one of those market areas, you will be limited to playing the game in that specific market area.  In the case of Frogster America, FA is the daughter company of Frogster Interactive Pictures AG ("Frogster EU") and people in either of those two target markets are allowed to create accounts and play on either the US or EU servers.  In the case of Turkey, a completely different company has recently licensed Radiant Arcana/Runes of Magic from Runewaker and apparently decided that they wanted Turkey all to themselves.  Hence the "lockout" from the existing EU and US games to residents of Turkey.  This was *not* Frogster's fault.

    @ OozanA:

To my knowledge, the players of the original game ("Radiant Arcana") may not access Frogster's version of the game on either the EU or US servers, and vice versa.  I understand, perhaps inaccurately, that people located in Singapore and the Philippines fall under those restrictions.  I'm sure there are other countries with that restriction.  Again, this has to do with licensing agreements and the interests of the various game companies wishing to protect their market areas.

    @ Ripclaw:

Good luck with that.  Frogster's EU website has essentially the same "front page" as Frogster's US website does, including the countdown clock.  At the time of this writing, the US countdown clock appears to be about seven seconds ahead of the EU clock.  Not that I expect it makes much of a difference.
