Vastly unimpressed

After going through a great deal of effort to get into the beta, and then enjoying teh opening movie and character generation, the rest of the game fell flat on it's ass.

The combat system is gimmicky, but doesn't work well.

I have a beastly machine, and while I can run teh game at it's highest graphics settings with 60 FPS give or take, the latency is so horrible that the combat system falls apart VERY fast.

The game is flashy in the motions of combat, and the city is vast.  But it feels like a generic game of rock/paper/sisciors.

Needless to say after only two hours of play, I was looking for a blue pill.

While the LOOK of the matrix movies is there, the FEEL isn't.  I felt like I was simply playing another MMO, desprately grinding random gang members just so I could go on another quest that I felt wasn't advancing my character or teh story at all.

I won't be playing this game, and I don't feel that I'll be missing anythign either.

Thanks for the announcement? Why do people feel they need to come and announce they won't be playing?

No one cares. Just like when you're in a MMO and you announce you're leaving people just say "Can I have your stuff?"

In this case we say: don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Actually sygmas, if RelentlessSG isn't playing, I don't think I will either. I'm glad he told me.

What would happen if I said that, and meant it?

Would the world end the day a 'fanboy' decides not to play the game? :P

    LOL

Actually dude, with the luck you've had in hyping MxO on these boards, the day you decided to quit would be the day everyone flocked to the game in droves image

Everybody already knows sygmas is a MxO fanboy. It's not wrong to like the game that you play and to describe it to others, but the way he does it makes him into a fanboy because he basically denounces anybody who says anything bad about the game and purports it as the best thing to come along since toilet paper.

As for those who post that they're leaving the game, people DO care, like those who are interested in the game and visit the forums and see what people have to say about it. Although I do disagree with people who post "This game sux I quit go play <insert other game name here>", those who provide a reason for why they left leaves a good marker for others to read, and replies to the post can either defend or provide an alternate viewpoint. All sygmas does is make himself look like that much more of a fanboy with his replies.

And no, not everyone wants to drop $50 to find out a game sucks.

I thought you said you were going to start being nicer to people. Yes people do care. It's really no different then when you post about how great the game is. Turn about is fair play is it not?

Kind of pointless to argue now -- no hyping required, game launches in a few days

He was stating his first opinions of the game. Nothing wrong with that. Please cool it.

I cant wait for this game to bomb. Every local EB/Gamestop manager Ive spoke to says they are expecting to get stuck with a lot of copies. Buzz on the street and websites is its a very bad game. Course I already know that, I played beta.

I think he means that, like the EQ2 forum, its mostly people whining about how bad the game is instead of those that actually like it discussing it.

I really enjoy TMO, i havent played the current builds because theres a wipe soon and dont want to ruin the fresh experience for release.

However, this game will not ever flop. Get over it, there will always be people who like a bad game untill the end (SWG).

Personally, a 2 hour review of WoW, DAoC, EQ II would also lead you to belive the game is sucky and no one should ever play it OMGWTFBBQ LAG IS TERRIBLE THESE GAMES SUCK CAUSE I PLAYED IT FOR 2 HOURS!!!@#!@#!.

seriously, play the game for at least a month. You'll like it. I hated it for the first month, but it grew on me. once you get to pvp in constructs, oh god theres no stopping you.

Yeah sygmas, that's pretty much what I meant. No room for intelligent discussion for those who wish it, just 95% trolling. Seems like that's what every thread turns into, just like the EQ2 boards.
  • sygmassygmas Member Posts: 949

Well then Darquen, I may just take my leave of the MXO boards come launch. If that really is the case. It's sad but you appear to be correct.

  • darquenbladedarquenblade Member Posts: 1,015

Eh..I'm just bitter today, syg. For those that are actually interested in this game, the info you continually post is quite appreciated (at least I appreciate it), but no good discussion ever seems to really evolve from any of it--just countless posts by people who just can't believe that there are others who find MxO appealing.

I've been a bit disallusioned by mmorpg.com lately, mostly due to the fact that the two boards I check up on the most (this one and EQ2), have degenerated into nothing but flames (this one still isn't as bad as EQ2 yet, but it's getting close lol).

Ah well..it probably doesn't help my mood that my gaming comp took a crap, so I won't be jumping into MxO right away come launch.

First I'll chime in on the rock/paper/scissors garbage because that is my absolute pet peeve with some of the comments about this game. RPS couldn't be farther from the truth. I've posted this before so here we go:

This is one of the biggest misconceptions of MxO. It is a virtually rolled number, not rock-paper-scissors. For one, RPS give you three possible outcomes and we have four basic types of attack to start with (Speed, Power, Grab, Block). Now, what abilities do you have loaded up to attack with? Kung Fu? Karate? Handguns? This makes a difference. If you go in with Handguns against a Kung Fu Master be prepared to be disarmed at some point. If you're disarmed you better have some martial arts loaded as a backup or your opponent will clean your clock. Oh, and you better have been leveling up your abilities as well. So now that we've made the number of combinations numerous (Power attack with Kung Fu level 10, Speed attack with Handguns level 15, etc.) let's toss in those ability moves you can snap off in the midst of combat like Disarming Shot, or Overhand Smash, or Guard Breaker, etc. Rock-paper-scissors = 3 choices. MxO combat = many, many choices.

The amount of depth in the game is growing by the day. It sounds as if some of these poster haven't been in on the sneak preview. It's been stated for a while now that story would drive this game and now that is beginning to be seen. Sure, you could mob hunt all you want just like any other MMO but there have always been plenty of other options. More was just added.

And, as far as the term "fanboy," jeez, just because someone likes something they're a "fanboy"? OK, I guess not only am I a Matrix Online fanboy but I'm also a Red Sox fanboy, a coffee fanboy, an old Motley Crue fanboy, a veal parmesan fanboy, a Right Guard fanboy, a Pepsi fanboy, a rum fanboy... gimme a break.

The truth is, this is a great game. Deal with the fact it was beta.

And yet again I'll say just because you repost 'why' you don't think it's RPS. That that doesn't mean it's not RPS.

Because its a discussion forum and he wanted to discuss it? If you can't handle alittle conversaton about people not liking it maybe you should stay in the official forums or grow some skin. There wasn't anything flaming or attacking about that post, dam, why do you always have to slam people if they don't like it?

Now Faedus, not to knock you or anything, but I would have to say you're being a tad hypocritical here. The guy only farted around with the game for 2 hours. If this person had made the same type of comments about EQ2 after an equal amount of playtime, you'd be calling them an undercover WoW troll.

Just stating how I see it.

OK, nothing personal but I am abit insulted by that. Completely untrue, a post like that about EQ II I probably wouldn't have responded too or I may have asked WHY on a few things but I would have hardly of responded like that. I think you need to dig alittle deeper then the last months worth of my posts before you start taking pot shots like that at me.

The OP hardly stated anything strong enough for me to accuse any such thing, his statements about lag are probably his problem only since when I beta'ed MXO I had no such problems with the game, running a strong rig with all settings maxed.

I have given fair credit to WoW players when they have made fair posts about EQ II as I have with any person that made a sensible and REASONABLE post about it but don't sit and take a shot at me like that when I you have about 4 people over and over with different accounts setting flame bait in the EQ II forums and spewing nothing but misinformation about it.

Nothing personal to you darquenblade but we will see how your tone is about a few things after you have been here awhile. I stand by my original post, the OP didn't say anything to justify the response he got from Sygmas and Admirker was way out of line with that BS he had to spew into the thread just to make sure he got heard yet again.

I would disagree on the "feel" part. I think they did capture the "feel" of Matrix. Unlike SWG that just failed to be star wars (dunno if that is better now).

What lack in this game is the "refinement". That was the one thing that impressed me with wow when I tried stress beta way back. The interface played well. In this game its jerky, have some "where did my controll go" moments, and generally is a pain to controll. From experience such things dont change in the week this game is from launch. They sure got enough random crashes to fix first.

I found the mission system at last. And in between the server crashes and client crashes managed to start recognizing rooms that I visited more then once. I really hope they have time to add some diversity to them.
