If you could go back in time, would you play Classic WoW again?

It's been said so many times now that WoW has gone down the gutter, peoples accounts are getting hacked more then they used to, the game is too easy (gear and content wise), most people talk smack and act ignorant all the time, stupid things exist in the game such as motorbikes that really are out of place in a fantasy game like this and they are running out of content ideas (people look like clowns and a lot of stuff is being recycled). Where did it all go wrong?

Well my guess is, since TBC which was the first expansion and it wasn't always like this but I suppose that is what happens when a game gets older, things become stale. Really I no longer care about WoW, I can't even log in anymore (those bloody hackers) and I have since moved on. Don't get me wrong though, I did love the game once like many of you did, the first time I ever did play WoW it truely was fun. Out of all the versions, it was the orginial Classic/Vanilla WoW that captured my heart the most, I know this is a nostalgic feeling but it's true that most people would actually agree on, Classic WoW was the best. Back in those days things really were better, epic items really were epic and you had to actually fight to get them when raiding with 39 other people, questing was more group based, the community was more social, there were no stupid vehicles in the game and the dungeons were more in depth and orginial. Even though I never experineced the old 60 raids at the time but for everything else, I loved it.

If only it was possible to turn back time and relive the old glory days, I certainly would of loved to do that, I would of been a Mage and duking it out at Molten Core, that would have been awesome.

Would you play Classic WoW again if you could time travel yourself? Do let me know. ;)

I enjoyed the calssic wow for a year, open areas, zones, non-instanced, factional open pvp, new car smell; I did it for a long-time.  But now its nothing more than the same ol battle grounds, and became that way quick, and pve raids are the epitomy of bore, for me.

Without batting an eye. Albeit, knowing what I know now and having experienced the slow destruction of everything that made the game worthwhile, I would only go back if it was free.

Oh, and since we're dealing with hypotheticals, I'd be picky: classic pre x-server BGs. When servers were actually tight-knit communities. That, by far, was the biggest force multiplier to everything else about classic.

That is exactly right, and we're not saying NO to save WoW, because it is already a lost cause. We are saying NO to dissuade the next group of greedy suits who decide to emulate Blizzard and Cryptic, etc.
We can prevent some of the future games from spewing this crap, but the sooner we start saying no, the better the results will be.

I vote undecided for two conflicting reasons.

Going back to Vanilla WoW would definitely be exciting. The game was in its prime during 40man raids and the beginning of WSG. The team work was challenging, and the people that really worked hard on the end-game content got what they deserved. There was a thick line between the casual gamer and the hardcore gamer.

But, being that I left the game due to the fact that farming raids gets repeptitive, I would have to say I wouldnt go back. If they opened new content with Vanilla WoW's mechanics, I'd probably pay it a visit again.

Back to little to no end game that in this fictional universe I would be doing for the last 6 years?  No thanks.

I do love how people whine that WoW expands slowly or is easy mode and then wants it back to the easiest time of all with the least content of all.

Kind of like VG players whining the it has no dev time and then bitching that the devs suck.

Patch 1.4.1 then I would go back

I actually enjoy the expanded content now. I liked it back in vanilla too, but it wasn't very well built. There were a lot of bugs, and hardly any raids in the endgame. I mean sure they were difficult raids, but after you downed them, they weren't so hard the next time, and unless they kept expanding the content then it would just get boring fast.

I would go back to again play with the friends who have since left the game.

I would however, use my knowledge of the game to avoid all the horribly designed features of vanilla WoW like the gear-obsessed raiding or the original PvP ranking system.

As a matter of fact I would probably slap myself silly for playing the game in such a hardcore manner and for thinking that what I was doing was actually challenging and leet.

No, I would have stuck with Lineage 2 instead. WOW went down the wrong road even before BC as far as I'm concerned. (Battlegrounds, Raiding)

HELL NO just because all the features the game has now make it more interesting.

WoW has one major flaw IMO.. reguarless rather it was classic or new version.. There is NO real game to play once you max your toon's level.. Yes, you can roll an ALT..but how many alts does it take before you say enough is enough?  Having 6 at 80th level was my end..   Maybe Blizz should of focused on some sandbox feathers at 80th, instead of the raid carrot chase.. oh well..

No, truth be told, I wouldn't even buy the game.

Yes I think I would. But if I retainted what would then be my future memories I would avoid BC and just move on to another game.

If we're talking about here and now, no way.  Vanilla WoW was fun for me because it was shiny and new, and I had a lot of friends in the game.  By today's standards, vanilla WoW had poor questing, terrible itemization, and a horrendous end-game.  I absolutely detest Outland, but the end-game of BC gave me more to do.  In vanilla WoW, I sat in IF and looked for Scholo and UBRS groups when not running with my guild.  That's what I did.

I was going to vote No, because I felt that if I never played WoW at all I could not have been disappointed in the direction it took.

But then decided to vote yes. I have not played for a long time but when I think about what I missed and have a bit of nostalgia for the game it is always for things that happened in classic - zones, raids, funny things that happened, the community etc.

Almost all of my fond memories of the game came from classic, the rest come from early TBC.

I would probably play it again if the same friends and the same community I had back then were still on. Vanilla WoW was good for its time, but isn't that great today. It was still more fun than modern WoW though.

It was friends and the community in general that made Vanilla so much fun. Real, open world PvP at TM and other hot spots. More tight-knit guilds imo.
