Do you exercise?

Hey guys, I was just curious how many minutes a day the average mmo gamer spends a day exercising. If you answer the poll, please post in the topic what kind of exercise you typically do. If you have any questions regarding exercise, ask 'em! I'm a certified personal trainer/ huge nerd and mmo player! Thanks in advance!

I've been doing 10-20 miles a day on my bike recently, a friend is training for a 100mile race and keeps dragging me along. Some days it's closer to 45 minutes, some days it's closer to 2 hours of exercise. I'm not big on weight lifting as I don't feel like going to the gym, but I do a basic body weight workout of pistol squats, pushups, 1hand pushups, pull/chinups, dips, and crunches.

Cool, just out of curiosity, how many floors do you have to walk up/down? Whether it's 2 or 20, great job

I used to regularly until I had an injury about four years ago. Back to 100% over the past 9mo or so, so I’ve been getting back into the heavier routine. Mainly three things, walking (a lot of up-hill), home gym and martial arts, not all in the same day. Not daily, like three times a week for an hour or so each session. Stretch daily, about 10 minutes.

My job on it's own is rather labour intensive so not sure if you want to consider that as exercise or not.  Every day however I do a bunch of situps, crunches, go for walks (though these are just to clear my head and not so much exercise) Chin/Pull ups, Push ups, all that body weight stuff that I can do.

Also random sport activities now and again, be it a pickup game of soccer or something along those lines.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

I've never did any exercised but I most definitely like to hike and work outside. Ive never been thin but Ive never wanted to be. Id rather carry a extra 20 pounds then be under weight. However I did recently get a eliptical trainer just for the fun of it and run on it while I watch tv for 2 hours. Gives me quite the sweat bath I must admit and I feel awesome!

What kind of martial arts are you involved in? I've always wanted to experiment with capoeira. The flashy kicks are right down my alley

Wha Rang Do for years and years, though I only practice now rather than train & tourney since I live far from any of their gyms now, they highly regulate any new gyms and usually don't allow new ones to open. A little Judo and Taekwondo training in the past, don't really practice that though, only went through entry-levels mostly. I'm terribly interested in Krav Maga, they opened a gym near by and I'll probably train there in the next year or two as I get stronger after an impact injury to my back. Yes I’ve had to use it other than for training and tournaments, a number of times, at least when I used to live in/near Los Angeles.

Wha Rang Do and Krav Maga are both military forms of martial arts, less flair and more hit hard and escape.

Delayed onset muscle soreness, or DOMS, goes away eventually. Your body gets better at repairing itself, and quicker at removing lactic acid which contributes to DOMS.

Also, just rode 22 miles with my friend, feels good.

If anyone's looking for a GREAT full body work-out, you should get into rock climbing (indoor specifically). It's an amazing sport, and it's what got me involved in fitness in the first place...that and Ninja Warrior, heh

At least that hurt is better than the hurt you feel when you don’t at all. Worse is when the legs feel hyper and the bones start to ache from the inside. Low-impact exercise can fix that up quick though, and better over time as the bones and muscles harden. When I could not exercise for some time, it felt like I had ADD, everything was out of balance. lol now it's like everyone is fat and on meds, thanks to psycho docs that throw drugs at every problem rather than dealing with the root issues.

Anyway, I put 15-30, as that is what it would come to if it were every day rather that a few times a week.

Ok, I'll tell you exactly what I do but I'm sure you won't be impressed.  I used to do more but I'm getting lazy in my middle age.

Also I've never been perfectly clear on what a "rep" is.  I've been told it means "repetition" which means two lifts so two counts as one but that seems silly to me so I'll just tell you how many times I actually lift the weights.

I use 65 lb. dumbells in each hand and do 21 lifts (curls for biceps) with each arm.  Right arm, left arm, right, left.  Wait five minutes or so and then do it again.  Why 21?  I dunno, that's just what I do.  Then using the same weights I do about 25 from the shoulders up over my head.

The following day I use 35 lb. dumbells in each hand while lying on my back and work my triceps.  I used to use 55 lbs. for this but started getting elbow pain so I cut it back.  I do 51 of those (I seem to have a thing about ending it with that "one").  With these I do both arms simultaneously.  When I get to 51 I immediately start doing some..uh...I don't know what anything is called but something for my chest where I extend my arms out to the side and down and then back up bringing my hands almost together up over my chest.  Then (unless I'm feeling lazy) I do 20 or so bench presses of 180 lbs. Why 180?  Because that's all the weights I have for my barbell and I'm not fanatic enough about this to buy different weights.

And that's about it.  I also walk on average about two miles a day but like the other guy said I don't count that as exercise, I do it just because I enjoy it (and my dogs would hate me if I didn't because they live those walks).  I also put up firewood because I burn wood for heat and there is quite a lot of physical labor involved in that.

After trying to start for a couple of years now, I'm finally to the point where I workout in the morning more often than I don't. I try to do 5 days a week, but it doesn't always happen (7 month old messes with my sleeping).

The endorphin rush is nice of course, but the best part is that just knowing I work out makes me more confident physically. I may not be in the best shape, but at least I'm doing something about it.

I've been doing martial arts (tae kwon do,karate, ninjutsu, aikido, kickbox) for a damn long time and I recently started bodybuilding. So I exercise for about 2 hours a day.

I work out at the gym three times a week, two hours each. That's a little less than 60 minutes a day on average.

I exercise because I'm FAT!!! T_T My girl just dumped me because of that.. Now she will see the real me! after this!

  • HiromantHiromant Member UncommonPosts: 99

That's a great attitude. I've completely transformed myself in two years of consistently lifting weights and following eating schedules. I was slowly getting skinny fat - not heavy, but very little muscle mass.

Just make sure you educate yourself on proper workout techniques and nutrition principles. For example, concentrate on heavy compound lifts like full squats, deadlifts, bench presses and pull-ups, eat lots of protein and fat (meat, eggs and dairy products), cut down on fast carbohydrates like white bread and sweets. All it takes is consistency.

So many friends I've tried to bring along have given up because they didn't see results in a week or couldn't change their eating habits.

I did that before, about ten years ago. Put on about 90-lbs over 9 months as I was working about 12-16 hours a day, 7 days a week and with little sleep (which causes constant hungar). I was at about 300-lbs when I should weigh 200-210 at my size and build. Took about six months to take off, mostly eating non-fat and low-fat. Was torture, but never went back.

I used to go to the gym about 3 times a week for about 1-2 hrs per session doing mostly dumbells and treadmill. Before that I did Taekwondo and another Korean martial art, did those for about 8/3 years respectively getting black belts in both.

And then I had knee surgery..... lol :(

dont work out, but last year i lost 30 pounds from just cutting back on eating. Mostly because i ate alot more then i used to after i moved and went through some bad stress. After i got over it, i moved back into old eating habits and now sit between 200-205 which makes me think that maybe people being "obese" have more of a eating problem then a "not-excercising" problem.
