Kalicanthus Entertainment announces that the new 3D Fantasy MMORPG Craft of Gods (www.craftofgods.eu) will be launched on May 27th, 2010. The official servers will be open from 2.30 PM CET on launch day.  From today it is also available for pre-order.

The team has planned 2 more Open Beta events: the first from April 29th till May 6th and the second that will start from May 20th and will end the day before the launch. Then, starting from May 27th, the official server, which you can access only if you have purchased the game client, will open.

During this last period before the launch the team will work hard in order to add new contents and to repair all the bugs found during the last Beta event. Our focus will be on improving server stability and performance, on deeply changing the combat system, on adding quest tracker and end game dungeons, on modifying the crafting by making it easier, on adding new contents like social features window and new PvP dedicated area, on correcting bugs related to loot, spells, quests and finally on improving animations and graphics. But the most important effort will be directed to the correction of the bugs found during the previous Open Beta events.

At launch, the level cap will be 60. End game will be fully available with both a battleground for level 60 only and the pillars area whose conquest provides access to special bonuses for the guild capable to conquer the 12 pillars.

The decision to restrict the level to 60 stems from the purpose to provide users with a complete and tested product, and so with an enjoyable and deep gaming experience. Future expansions are planned involving, approximately 3 months after launch, the first free expansion that will raise the level cap and will provide additional content such as Flying Mounts, Caravans, Weather spells and God's Abilities.

But above all, the team is already working on the first major expansion of Craft of Gods:  Atlantis. When it will be ready, the world will know the third race, the neutral one that brings balance to the world of Craft of Gods.

Price for Craft of Gods will be € 29.90 in Europe for the purchase of the downloadable client or the box. For the box, besides one month of free subscription, the purchase will allow you to get 3 very special bonuses: a unique mount unobtainable in game (the millipedes), an epic weapon that will grow with the character and a special cloak.

With regard to the downloadable client version, the mount will be available for pre-orders only.

The subscription will cost € 8.90 per month and promotions will be available for purchasing of multiple months.

After the release the 15 days trial version will always be available and it will allow you to play on the trial server even if with some restrictions that will be specified soon.

Two downloadable client versions will also be available: Standard Edition which will cost € 24.90 with one month subscription included, and Deluxe Collector’s Edition which will cost € 29.90 and, besides the one month subscription, will include 2 bonuses:  a special cloak and an epic weapon.

The languages available at launch will be English, Russian, German and Italian.

Far too soon, IMHO.  From what I saw of it in OB3, this needs another 6+ months of feature development, balancing, debugging and polish.  And that's assuming they even have the ability to do those things well.  Judging by very basic connectivity and responsiveness issues in OB3, that is not a given. There is not much they can get done in just 7 weeks or so.  Just look at the list of what they're still trying to cram in.  There was a time where ALPHA meant you were "feature complete"...  You don't even start talking about Beta until you're feature complete, and have done several satisfactory cycles of internal testing / balancing / polishing.  As with most MMOs, these guys are trying to cut out 6-12 months from the produciton cycle this sort of game requires.  Sigh.  Will they never learn?

I like their design goals, which is why I bothered trying this despite the dated graphics, but implementation is king.  This reminded me very much of the state Alganon was in when it went Open Beta last fall...  Almost anyone can dream up a killer design doc.  Right, David Allen?  ;-)

And what about North American pricing / availability?  Is this a European-only launch?

craft of gods!? name is awful hardly rolls of the tongue does it.  Up there with Crime craft for worst name.

Do these company think that if they put "craft" in the game people will pay more attention?

The presence of "Craft" in the title has nothing to do with that other game.  CoG has a different target audience.  But I agree that they could have picked a better title, maybe something from the Slavic mythology on which the game is supposedly based.

As a previous poster mentioned, the devs have a great concept but the implementation is not there yet.  They have built a great foundation and you can now run around and do things in the gameworld.  Only those of us who enjoy helping indy developers build their games, however, could really call it fun gameplay at this point.

At release the game will be missing two important items: (1) a North American server and (2) the third realm which is pvp-neutral.  As of now the ping is too bad for me to survive pvp and with only the two pvp realms implemented at launch I'm afraid I would be on the bad end of a gank-fest.
