Who on earth would be ashamed of smoking...

Anyway...yeah I'm a hardcore gamer and have been smoking for 11  years.

I don't understand the point of smoking tobacco, I get nothing out of it but terrible smelling breath and clothes.

I smoke other substances on occasion and don't care what people do in their private, but smoking in public buildings is a dick move, and illegal where I live.

Some people use smoking as a social crutch. I started smoking because I was around it all the time growing up and had easy access to it.

Smoked pot twice in university and both times I cleaned up friend's res rooms... apparently weed makes my OCD cleaning fetish come out. Needless to say I was offered pot a lot in Uni by friends wanting free maid service which didn't really do much to endear me towards that particular smoke.

As for tobacco, I saw my Dad struggle for years to quit. With two little girls telling him all about the evils of smoking he really wanted too, and went cold turkey twice and the 2nd time managed to keep it up. He hasn't smoked in 10 years now. Sometimes I will smell a puff from someone smoking his old brand and it will evoke a positive emotional response in me. So much of our emotional memories are stored in smells.

My real addiction is buying books, games, dvds... I own over 500 books at this point and have bought a house and made a whole bedroom a library. I

am also addicted to reading random threads on this forum... so for my own health... please stop replying to MMORPG threads so I don't waste more time here.

I also smoke but not very often. Usually I take a break from playing and smoke to relax. Well, that's just me.

There's a BIG difference from being "ashamed" of something and not being proud of it. Shame is a pretty terrible word.

All human beings have weaknesses and things they do that are "plain dumb."  The number of bad habits and unhealthy practices that we could add into a "plain dumb" list....would be staggering.

I'm not PROUD that I'm a smoker. I'm proud of having served in the U.S. military. I'm proud of my children. I'm PROUD of things most people would be proud of....  But I'm not ASHAMED of being human and sometimes doing stupid things, or having a weakness that I have tried to conquer. (I can take "plain stupid" a step further than what you were even probably thinking here. I quit once for 8 years and STARTED smoking again.)

We're all human. We all have weaknesses, struggles, etc., and we all sometimes do things that are illogical or "plain stupid." I'm not proud of that, but I'm certainly NOT ashamed to be just as human as the next guy or gal.....

Don't smoke anything and I have no interest.

But how does this tie into games?  So far I am failing to see the connection.

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

damn 34% who awnswered smoke(me included) and many who said "no" are ex-smokers.   Many gamers will die young if that figure is anywhere near accurate.  Raw deal.  I wish smoking made you burp butterflies but it fing doesn't.   Stick with the occasional joint, or tobacci gonna killi us all.

and curry is good for u :) lol that comment made me laugh

I have one or two when I go out drinking every other weekend but I'm not addicted to it that I smoke everyday, I just do it cause it gives you head rush after drinking so it saves money as you don't drink as much after.

I used to smoke but I've been cigarette and cigar free for 5 years now.  But I still smoke the herb which IMO is the only thing worth smoking.

No, but I used to years ago. And to note, when people are smoking within range, I don’t choke and gag and throw a tizzy fit, people that do that - it’s just in their mind. One little hint of smoke in the air isn’t going to kill you. If that were so, people smoking for just a year would be dropping dead at a 100% mortality rate as they are exposed to it constantly. These second-hand smoke studies are pretty much BS. Imo Aspartame in soft drinks is far more dangerous. All the fluorides (waste product) they pump into water will do more damage than second-hand smoke will to you. Anything other than organic milk will pretty much drive the nails into your coffin a lot quicker than second-hand smoke. We live in a confused society.

Yep, and playing MMOs tends to make me smoke more. When I am occupied, say at work or just busy in RL, I simply don't have the time to light up and enjoy one. When I am playing an MMO I find myself puffing during any legible downtime.

    Need to auto-travel someplace? Smoke.

    Looking through vendor inventory? Smoke.

Waiting for group to form? Smoke, and a beer.

It's really making the bad habit worse imo, but it's totally my fault for wanting to fill an empty moment with *something*, anything.

My reasons for quitting were basically first about health, and because the cost of cigarettes has become so prohibitively high it became unjustifiable. That being said, I still will continue to say that no government has the right to do essentially what amounts to forcing a citizen to quit smoking by taxing the crap out of it to make it too expensive... I am glad that I quit, and I think that noone should smoke, but I think it should be everyone's personal choice.

Good job man, I wish you luck on your road to smoke-free paradise ;D

I could never just stop smoking. I went over to smokeless/spit tobacco for a time, that was way easier to quit for me. Don’t know how that would work for a full pack a day, I usually did under a half-pack. I smoked for about 8 years.
