Fallen Earth: Fallen Earth Survivor, Part Two

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

MMORPG.com's Phil James continues his "survivor" series of articles, focusing on the post-apocalyptic vistas of Fallen Earth and some misadventures had trying to attend a simple event.

"Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want." Dan Stanford

I first read that line in an issue of 'Heavy Metal' magazine. It was in a single panel comic back when 'Heavy Metal' was more than just T'n'A. The line now seems a bit trite, but I read it when I was a young man and it has stuck with me. I think of it whenever a "short cut" ends up adding more time to my journey, and it has also sprung to mind after certain jobs have not panned out as expected.

For gamers, experience is what you get when you grind and hand in quests. This was my plan when I booted up Fallen Earth this week. As I mentioned last time, I am planning on taking a rifleman route through the game. I fancy myself as a frontiersman, making my own guns and ammo, and cooking up what I shoot. Before launching myself into the world, I took a look at the Fallen Earth website to check out the latest news and forums to see what tips I could pick up.

Read Fallen Earth Survivor, Part Two.

This was pretty interesting, I played Fallen Earth during early beta and lost interest  so I'm hoping it's gotten better :)

I never knew there was a bar in Embry with functional slot machines.  I've got to stop the mindless questing and look around once and a while. :)

    Hey bud

Great to see you in game.

I would suggest that you do that first mission line all the way through.  Two biggies: The first is you will autolevel to lvl two on completing it, and the better bigger reward is that during the quest line you will be given your first horse.  With the game size being what it is, the horse comes in mighty handy.  Upgrading your horse quick is advised, since all the other horses go faster, and have more storage.

    Good luck and good hunting.

PS. grilled chicken is one of the best ways in game to make money.

Heya Phil, nice to see you're enjoying yourself.

The GMT notation they use doesn't take British Summer Time into account, so you have to add the hour on yourself. Quiz nights run very late, I was up til 4am at one (had a few days off work and said I'd go just to see it). Great fun, my lowbie won a couple of guns.

If you're planning on heading to another quiz night (tonight?), it may help you to know that the GMs will port you from wherever you are into the bunker bar. As long as you're not on a mount, they'll pull you in. Just send a /tell to whoever is in charge of porting (usually announced in-game).

Enjoy the extended tutorial and upgrade that Old Nag as soon as possible to save yourself chips from buying horsefeed.
