Be mature...I can't believe this! Horrible, well good that they did the study, but horrible findings! Guess I should keep my cell out of my pocket, I mean...wow

Is that a cell phone in your pocket
Interesting tidbit to make you think about the damage that may be happening to your body from cell phone radiation. Hungarian scientists conclude that carrying a cell phone in your hip pocket or attached to your waist can cut a mans sperm count by 30%.
The prolonged use of cell phones may have a negative effect on (sperm production) and male fertility, Dr. Imre Fejes, of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Szeged said in a summary of the study.
Fejes and his team analyzed sperm from 221 men and questioned them about their use of mobile phones. They found correlations between the use of the phones, even in a standby setting, and reduced sperm concentration and quality.
Fejes said more research is needed to support the findings, which will be reported to this weeks conference in Berlin of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology.
Professor Hans Evers, a past president of the society, said the results are interesting but far from conclusive.
It appears not to take into account the many potential confounding factors that could have skewed the results, Evers, who works at the Academic Hospital in Maastricht in the Netherlands, said in a statement.
He added that the study did not seem to analyze stress levels, the type of jobs the men have and whether they smoked, which could all influence sperm count.
These factors would have a considerable effect on the outcome of the research, he said.
Im sure more studies will be conducted on this issue. Lets hope that the Hungarian scientists really are wrong.

if this testing proves true then im sure they will find a way to solve it and recall all cells
It appears to me this was not a very controlled experiment. I mean it says they didn't even check on varients like stress and smoking. Makes me wonder if they had the same agegroup even. I don't know if I would put too much stock into a Hungarian experiment, not personal but they aren't exactly on the forefront of medicine, you know? Accutally also as a side thought... a low sperm count doesn't really have anything to do with the drive and most people I know don't just have physical relations to procreate.

Cellphones are the most useless and annoying invention in history. I see these dumb 10 year old girls walkign around with them. Like, who the hell are they going to call? Their parents? What a joke. Then theres all the morons chatting away on their cellphone in the middle of a highway.
i think that this isnt true because in that case, their saying all these bad effects are caused by Electromagnetic fields. which is what a cell phone operates on, this is the power source and what the radio waves(not quite radio but closest thing i can compare em to) are based on em Fields. if this is what people are saying causes them then ur computer, ur monitor, ur CD and mp3 player, your television, and any elctronic with a power source can cause these problems.
so im not buying into all this.

I'm not sure I'd place too much stock in that study. You guys are far more likely to radiate yourselves with a laptop in your lap than with a cell phone on standby in your pocket. Now, if you're using a cell phone while it's in your pocket, well you've got far bigger issues, my friend.
On the other hand, many cell phones operate at frequencies very close to what microwave ovens run at.
Just something to think about.

But i don't think keeping it in your shirts pocket (if it has any) matters, does it?
Then it will probably do something to your lungs, heart, or something we'll learn down the road. Personally I just turn my cell phone off 95% of the time; it's annoying anyways and that way it will not ring when it don't want it to. I just find it less of a hassle plus I don't have to worry about any radiation or whatever hazardous problem we find out about them. Obviously I don't mind missing calls that much... (but that will probably change if I need a cell-phone for my job). I also agree with what Orcc said, I think its stupid seeing people driving 65 miles per hour on the freeway talking on a cell phone.

To me, it's not that much of a concern if it affects the count of the sperm.. but if it altered the sperm, then that's an entirely different issue. I like the line in the post which says "even in standby mode"... Umm, how many people keep their cellphones in the vicinity of their genetalia while talking on it anyway?
I just had an idea as I was typing this... Dockers should capitalize on this study and start making pants which include fibers which block these radiation waves... Then the only time you would have an issue is if you held your phone right up to your head.... and not the one on your shoulders...

When they say that they're talking about very gradual exposure of the micro-waves in cell phones
it would happen over YEARS and YEARS and you'de have to have you're phone in you're pocket ALOT.
so don't let this turn you away from cell phones...
the exposure from microwaves is 20 times worse, we still do it.

My opinion on that is...
Hmm, sperm production is mostly in your genes, no pun intended. All these scientific analysis is based on minor studies, they just use that scale trick to freak people out over things that aren't that big of a deal. Still interesting article. So its not all proven to a T yet.
heres what happend to my Sidekick II when it was in my pocket they sent me a faulty refurbished one that wasnt put together right, im now on my third sidekic, this one seems to be working fine. the first one i had got a hardware failure.
