Star Wars: The Old Republic: Friday Update: Hoth Clip, Sith Emperor Revealed

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

It's no surprise that this week's Friday Update includes the official reveal of Hoth, as many of you have already seen the planet as it made its debut over at Videogamer.com earlier this week. However, Bioware did release some additional media for the planet including a short clip featuring in-game footage.

In addition to the official Hoth reveal, we're also treated to the third issue of the new Blood of the Empire webcomic, which, surprisingly, reveals to us the identify of the Sith Emperor, something many fans have been wondering about for some time.

You can read issue # of the Blood of the Empire webcomic here.

Well not really his identity, but his current face...

It looks like he's "possessing" people, taking their bodies to extent his lifespan.

So... he's like Orochimaru without the pedophilia?

You'd like to think, but he does get to touch a lot of padawans.

I kill other players because they're smarter than AI, sometimes.

They have hinted several times through-out the Star Wars Universe of a sort of body-snatching power heh. Darth Sidious Spoke of immortality. Then Darth Bane sought an ability  from Darth Andeddu's holocron. So the Emperor of the Sith possessing a similar ability wouldn't be far-fetched. I am wondering if this Sith Empire is just another Sith faction rising up, or an actual extension of the True Sith since this guy looks nothing like the real sith.

Its a bit of a shock. I'm not against the body snatching idea its just the body he picked. I was expecting something a little more impressive, I can see a Jedi master being a small green muppet but the leader of the Sith Empire always seemed to me to be someone physically imposing. Not a guy that its hard to tell if its a guy or a girl. I'd be interested to know why Bioware opted to go down this route, and prey to the force that its not so the emporer is easily underestimated much as Yoda and Luke underestimated the Emporer (from the films).

Completely agree. The Idea of the body stealing is that the person must be weak willed, so I suppose it would fit. This guy looks like a young kid, barely old enough to graduate the academy and yet powerful enough to command the forces of the Sith? Surely hope he isnt just some kinda of boy wonder and there is some undisclosed reason he is in his position.

Totally off-beat and off topic probably, but Sith Emperor looks like a white supremacist, and I do not like it!

Think there's a lot of potential for awesomeness though, a hideous monster or some guy with a  very defining facejob (aka palpatine) going on is impressive, but you get used to it soon.

While a young boy who doesn't look out of the ordinary doing atrocious acts, able to jump into other bodies, well lots of potential for lasting creepyness.

I think this is a rather weak representation of the ultimate evil in the universe. Certainly, it's a very poor 'reveal'.

I kinda like the look, actually, reminds me of Ra from the Stargate movie, However, for all we know it might not be his true form, but a servant he speaks through. And it might not be how he looks in game.

An interesting deviation from the typical Sith mastermind, tho. Would probably be less interesting if we saw an wrinkled old man, or a Red-skinned sith as our first glimpse of him... but time will tell.

Hoth? Really? Come on, you've got to be kidding me.

Star Wars is a galactic wide setting, and we keep seeing the same planets over and over and over and over.  How about something original?

Why the fu@k are they slacking off on releasing this title? If I performed as slow as they have on my job I would be fired, so what's their piss ant excuse?

They spend more time releasing info to build everyone's hype up than they do finishing up development, do they work for the government or what?

Where do you get the information they are slacking. They are on plan and on time and are showing snippets of worlds they have developed in a consistent and professional manner.

Share with us the project deadlines and plans they have missed ? If I assumed about someone elses deadline without all the info in the organmisation I work for I'd be sacked.

You are lucky you have nothing to do with Bioware, else they may take you to task for questioning something you know little about.

No they work for EA, and unlike other developers BioWare wants to make this a great success. There's no need for a 'SOE/SWG part 2' situation. The IP has been hurt enough.
