It's not a matter of being a hater or not. I don't hate DarkFall, I just don't play it anymore because I can't get the amount of enjoyment I require because of key features missing or broken. The heavy focus on PvE rather than PvP, and even when you are PvP ready you still PvE a lot more than you PvP, it just gets dull really quickly. There's not enough players to populate Agon, lack of interactions outside of your own clan or alliance, lack of a decent economy, etc.
Pointing out these issues doesn't mean you're a hater, it's not a "troll vs. fanboy" thing, it's about denouncing the real issues with the game. Hiding the issues behind a pink glass wall is just dishonest and has caused many "potential" players to "waste" their money on a game that isn't like what they were told.
When a game has about 200k players attempting to pre-order the game near launch and now has about 5k players....there's an issue. Potential players needs to be aware of these issues, and if they can get past these issues then so be it and I hope they enjoy their time in DarkFall. But saying that everything is fine and that anyone else who doesn't agree with you is a hater is ridiculous (and yes I know you didn't phrase it this way, but given that you are only able to call other haters while never actually proving anything leads to this conclusion)

The key features of the game arn't missing and at best need small minor adjustments in case they don't work as intented.
See thats is what i mean. You don't take Darkfall for what it is and declare its features missing and broken.
The focus on PvE is an option put in after launch and after PLAYERS demand for a faster way to catch up and reach "the top" (That mindset is to question, but that is another matter). You don't have to PvE at all you gain skill for hitting players too.
PvE was also announced as part of the game because its a MMORPG not an arena type game. You need mob drops for crafts etc. the usual MMORPG basics.
The game as is, is easy to be percieved centered around a clan antagonistic environment, why trade with a enemy ? you want to make him stronger ? For the same reason (clan centric driven world) the alignment had to step back on importance. The "economy issue" had also to adapt these conditions.
You can't expect in a world of constant war, someone run around get rich exhausting resources and mob loot without being interupted by enemys or get rich just with safe craft, safe sales and without backing of a force. Even these nature it is not impossible to solo in DF , just not very easy and pleasant. That is the DF , accept it.
The 200k were just hyped to to try out. They didnt want to test the game, they just wanted to take a curious look. The playerbase was always at 50k max (that was the account of forum population during most time of the development )

Darkfall is still the only MMO I have been able to play since it was released. It is what you make of it. It is a sandbox. I am a simple orc. Working on on his crafting while he raises his magic skills. I hunt a particular creauture that drops everything I need right now. I defend my hunting ground from various reds that like to take my gibblets. I even fight off the worthless traitor orcs that try to trick me into death by towers.
Im a delusional noob. Been playing the game for about 5 months. I think its a great game. Every mom is raid level, as far as im concerned, when they wearing plate and carrying a boom stick.
The only thing wrong with DFO is that more people dont play it. This is a game that truly shines as more and more people start playing it. More clans pop up to war amongst themselves. Town milia guilds form to protect you from invading red's.
Pirates take the seas, stealing everything they can. Wars are waged to defend from the pirates. Really the shit just goes on and on.
Darkfall doesn't even have half of 50k subscriptions right now. Money doesn't lie. If WoW fanboi's want to point to Blizzards tremendously large wallet, then fanboi's can't turn the cheek when their game is in a struggle to surive. Everything is NOT okay. Things don't need MINOR adjustments. I don't want to hear this BS about.. 'You have to accept DF for what it is'. Are you going to buy a hamburger without the burger inside and be okay with it? There's a reason companies continue to release games half-done and lie to their player-base about what's supposed to be in the game and what isn't. You people buy it and accept garbage for treasure.
I love the world of Agon. It's big. It makes me feel small, which is huge for immersion. It makes me feel like I can make an impact some day. But.. the rest of the game is marred by bad design choices. It can't be denied. EA/Mythic screwed up a very popular game at it's height in Ultima Online. The difference here is that Adventurine destroyed their game before it was even released with their marketing apolcalypse. I gave this game one month of subscription, I don't think I'll be giving them any more money after that though. I waited 14 months for them to sort out their crap. 200k subscriptions as it was being released that turned into 20k subscriptions, maybe 12-15k unique subscriptions? You're talking about a 7-10% retention rate. That means for whatever reason, Adventurine has driven away 90-93% of their supporters. That's hilarious. Those 200k players knew that it was a FFA PvP game when they signed up. it wasn't as if they left because they got killed. Keep telling yourself that. Don't use logic and reasoning. Just continue to be blind to reality.

You found out DF is not for you, good for you, have luck with your next game.
I put at max for a reason, 50k forum accounts accoumulated in 6 -7 years including alts too. Also ts usual that players don't stay forever with one game, they take a break , try something else ..come back, the last expac is months ago probs accounts rise with next xpac in june, you just count the actives i am sure DF got sold 30k+ a healthy number for DF.
DF is working and the playerbase DF is designed for appreciate it as the best game on the market.

Go over to official board, search for vids at you tube. Read what valuable players of the community have put together like Val Roth and Paragus.
That's really not a good idea. "Valuable players of the community" usually means insane fanboys, which in this case is true. I dont know who the paragus guy is but ive seen valroths videos and let me say even someone who has only been playing a couple months can easily see how much BS is stuffed into them. They will say anything to get you to subscribe. It's almost like they work for Aventurine, or think that aventurine really appreciates on a personal level all of the hard recruitment work that these players do for them (they dont). Don't pay attention to any 1 person or party when looking at this game. You have to just look at the whole picture. Take a few minutes and read through just the thread titles on these forums and the Darkfall official forums. Use logic and try to formulate a ratio in your head of all the negative to positive.
Look at it like this. If half of the people who go to a restaurant give it terrible reviews, and say they found hairballs in their spaghetti, would you try the restaurant out? What if the ratio was even higher?
Read through the forums and think of it like a restaurant. Then decide if you would want to eat there.

I think the best thing to do would be to wait for a trial, see what happens next. The worst case scenario would be you buy the game and its not what you want and you stop playing.
My experience was not great with the game, though I tried it a while ago, I could only hope improvements have been made. The only way you'll really know if you like the game would be to try it for yourself. Key word is TRY it not BUY it, in all honesty I wish a had more hands on time before I took the plunge.

Most people who really started playing thanked VR for his video guides and even some on this very forum.
Usually its a good idea to listen to those who play the game and not some random guys on a third party forum known for being biased.

The game is truly unique. Like it or hate it doesn't matter. I'd wait for another trial if you're unsure or don't want to spend much money. But if you're a fan of MMOs you should try it just to see something you won't see anywhere else. What anyone else thinks or says shouldn't influence you. We don't know what you like. You do.
The game is worth trying out for any MMO players. It is a very unique experience as you say. They did a very good job of putting FPS in a MMO. Even just fighting mobs is better than most other MMO. Just understand OP that you will have to put in a lot of time to work on you character skills and stats. And joining a clan is a must for anything past the starter city quests. Venturing out on tour own will get you killed fast. I do recomend at least giving it a shot. You will have fun fora while.
How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder, without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better, and not the world about them? R.A.Salvatore
The gameplay is extremely funfun. I played for a hardcore 8 months.
It was exactly that, however. Hardcore. The grind is absolutely immense, and I soon realized that me not macroing for the first 2-3 months, I was at a big loss.
The game is separated by those who own, and those who get owned. It is damn near impossible to find an even PvP match, which made it frustrating. I quickly realized that the only way to not die all the time was to spend your entire life on a bugged mob casting spells on it. Sure, skill plays a big role, but I don't care how good you are, you're not going to beat the guy that has spend a solid year macroing up his stats.
Usually its a good idea to listen to those who play the game and not some random guys on a third party forum known for being biased.
That is exactly what I said in my post. You, and the people you mentioned, are extremely biased. All I suggest is for the OP to view the whole picture, ask questions (like why are there video guides to "efficient advancement" if everyone says there isnt a grind? while everyone else says there IS a grind?) and dont let anyone tell you the game is good or bad. Just decide for yourself based on what you see.

Granted I don't play the game anymore, I have issues with it and what it is doesn't suit my playstyle, at least not for longterm. But this post is true, its worth playing once. cause it is really different.
Wait till Q4 after the prestiges classes are implemented. There it will be decided if the DF will continue the fail way or go where it has meant to be (the original meant way by devs see forumfall history).
Or if you dont mind playing 75% PvE and 25% PvP after at least 3 month of 100% PvE you can jump right in.
PS : I almost missed so much hate while playing Fallen Earth! Remind me of Age of Conan post release forumwars Fanboys vs haters / neutrals.
Guess my only question is, is Darkfall a game moving forwards, or is it destined to fail?
Haha, I`ve played for more than a year and I`ve ask myself this question every day.
The "june" patch will make or bury this game that`s for sure. The low level pvpers are bored of the grind, and the high level pvpers are bored of fighting the same 300 players all the time. The grinders are only a handfull so don`t listen to them. They are just a tiny vokal group and wont be missed in a pvp game anyway. So in short...If AV lessen the grind and let casual players and pvpers take over, we can have a winner. If they continue the grind the game is lost.
But everytime i come on here both it's rating seems to get lower, and the amount of faults brought up by payers seem to increase.
Guess my only question is, is Darkfall a game moving forwards, or is it destined to fail?
I played it for a few months at launch. Whether or not you will enjoy it enough to justify the purchase cost is up to a few factors.
Do not buy this if:
1)You hate unpolished products.
2)You hate clunky interfaces
3)You hate grinding (Money, stats, skills, or all of the above)
4)You are interested in the PvE
5)You hate (nearly) everyone being the same
DO buy this if:
1)You like big seamless worlds
2)You like exploring
3)You like PvP and FPS games
4)You like your games to be seriously challenging
5)You have an active imagination
Other notes/opinions:
Especially back at launch when the servers were more crowded, and no one had maxed out advanced magic schools, this game was quite fun. It was such a refreshing feeling in an MMO to just go off and explore; pick a direction and run. Obtaining your first mount, or crafting your own armor, was actually fun and rewarding. PvP was there of course, and when the playing field was more even (and based on SKILL) it was very fun.
Things have changed now, and being a new player in Darkfall is an exercise in extreme patience. Nearly everyone will blow you away in a couple hits from long range with their maxed out spells or archery. Everyone has launch, shrapnel, and other spells which means those of us who specialized in reconaissance and "getting away" had nothing that everyone else did not also have.
To put it bluntly, you'll be everyone's bitch unless you quickly find a guild that will take you in and include you in group activities until you are strong enough to hold your own. Once this happens, unless you are actively involved in the world politics, and sieging cities, et cetera, there is very little to do other than farm mobs or wander around looking for a fight.
Darkfall is a skeleton of a game. If the elements which are there, are ones you truly enjoy, then it is a good game for you. However, it has no meat on its bones and quickly grew boring for me. I had hundreds of thousands of gold, plenty of it to grind my skills up, but was personally completely uninterested in doing so.
Still, I'll maintain I enjoyed it enough that it was worth buying it. I mean, how many games have we, as gamers, spent 50 dollars on, and played for 20-40 hours before being done? You'll get a lot more than that out of this game if you enjoy the aspects I mentioned above.

Yeah a lot of people tell the early days were the best ones, as no one was "overpowered through grind / macroing". It was the time were your personal player skill was most valuable.

Erm, but this is Darkfall, and it is a fun pvp mmo.
This game wasn`t made for the grinders or pve players, they stole it from the pvpers when they discover the grind. Just look at the Darkfall homepage or any of the youtube videos, everything involves pvp.
-You kill mobs to get money for regs, gear or mats for enchants. This will make you better in pvp.
-You siege citys for contoll over a rare ore mine, a mob spot, a dungeon, an island or a fast travel spot. This will make your clan better in pvp.
-You grind your skills and stats to get a better char. This will make you better in pvp.
-You supply your clan crafter. This will make your clan better in pvp.
-You do politics. This will make your clan better in pvp.
We don`t train a skill like gills because we like to swim and dive. We train it because it will help us fight over the sea fortress.
I love PVP games! I have been trying several new ones lately but I cannot find anything as fun as Darkfall is . .. everytime that I think that I had found something better, I get sick of it really fast and crave Darkfall again. I am probably going to stick with Darkfall until the end (which is going to be a long time from now!) and be having fun even then by just continuously raiding the last player city over and over again . ... lol
This game wont die anytime soon. A lot of the recent population loss was due to the ban wave but the last couple weeks that I have been on seem to be busier than I remember it ever being . .. the last time that I was logged in, there was player tombstones everywhere in site and a fight right outside town every 10 minutes. This game is coming back and coming back hard! So many people have been resubbing lately . .. just in the past 2 weeks.
This game has definitely had worse times. Launch was so much fail that it is only because this game is so fun that it is still so around. Before NA launch this game was absolutely dead! I would go raid cities to find nobody around . .. go to NPC cities to find nobody around . .. now adays there are 2 servers and I always find people (even when I dont want to . ...)! I've been playing this game since it launched and have seen it grow and grow and grow . .. it keeps making progress! Sure there are population lows every few months but overall it is getting so much better!!
Definitely worth a try . .. not just a trial try but a couple month sub at least. You will not find anything else like it and may thank me later.

Just wondering, what other PVP games have you tried?
Originally posted by maskedweaselJust wondering, what other PVP games have you tried?
Pretty much all of the P2P ones but only made it furthest with Vanguard (ffa server), War, and AoC. In the last month I tried to get into MO but I hated the gameplay. I have done a trial with almost every game that has one . ..
I love most FPS games. Favorites are Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Call of Duty. America's Army I played a lot too.
My favorite solo game would be anything in the Elder Scroll series like Oblivion, Morrowind, or Daggerfall even. This was one of the reasons that I put up with the broken stuff in Darkfall during the release and am glad to see that they have fixed most of what was broken.
I am playing Global Agenda and Guildwars on the side while I am harvesting in Darkfall or if I have less than an hour to play . .. only way a game can replace Darkfall is if it can give me an equivelant rush. Being as there is nothing much to lose in other games I do not see this happening anytime soon.
I typically tend to stick to the fantasy genre over sci fi when it comes to MMORPGs

I'd wait for the June Patch to ask this question. Might fix things, might break things, we'll see.
this. darkfall is in a make or break, close to the brink sort of situation now I feel. Its had some good patches and some bad patches and overall darkfall has improved. we'll see how well AV do with the next big content patch but if it sucks, which is likely, then I think the game will die. the EU server pop is already way too low for the games design and massive world.
PS what makes you think it will come out in june?!

Check out Forumfall spotligh section. There were a thread about charc progression discussion. There was a statment by AV that they want to bump out 2 xpacs 2010. One should be june/july or even august and another one should be around q4 or even next year as we know how AV tends to delay.
Im not sure, but i remind that this thread should it be. Dont know exact position of the statment. Sorry it would pain to search through these 900 posts

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS GAME! GO BACK TO YOUR CAREBEAR SERVERS! WE WILL ENJOY OUR GAME UNTIL THE SERVERS SHUT DOWN! WE ARE HARDCORE! /slit wrists

May I have permission to use this as a quote in my signature?
My Darkfall character was stuck in RED alignment until I killed enough people AFK hitting trees and rocks. Darkfall is hardcore

My Darkfall character was stuck in RED alignment until I killed enough people AFK hitting trees and rocks. Darkfall is hardcore
Granted I don't play the game anymore, I have issues with it and what it is doesn't suit my playstyle, at least not for longterm. But this post is true, its worth playing once. cause it is really different.
My Thoughts on Content Locust
My honest recommendation is
Wait till Q4 after the prestiges classes are implemented.

Hope that helps!

I typically tend to stick to the fantasy genre over sci fi when it comes to MMORPGs

this. darkfall is in a make or break, close to the brink sort of situation now I feel. Its had some good patches and some bad patches and overall darkfall has improved. we'll see how well AV do with the next big content patch but if it sucks, which is likely, then I think the game will die. the EU server pop is already way too low for the games design and massive world.
PS what makes you think it will come out in june?!
My blog:
Check out Forumfall spotligh section. There were a thread about charc progression discussion. There was a statment by AV that they want to bump out 2 xpacs 2010. One should be june/july or even august and another one should be around q4 or even next year as we know how AV tends to delay.
http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=243962
Im not sure, but i remind that this thread should it be. Dont know exact position of the statment. Sorry it would pain to search through these 900 posts
