I recently started playing WoW but I have a problem. I have serious slowdown/lag that can casue my pc to crash when i enter large cities and Take griffon rides. The connection monitior is always green so i dont think it is connection related.
PC specs:
P4 3.06 gz
512MB Ram
128mb Geforce Fx5200 graphs card
I basically pwnd the specs for the game but i keep having this problem. I've also noticed slowdown occuring in sparsley populated areas too.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? I am tempted to buy another stick of Ram and update graph's card but i dont the expense if there is a quick software fix, can anyone help?

well one thing you might try is setteing the graphics to low, um are you running other things on your pc? if you are running xp, you can right clik on start,-> propertys and chage the grphics to be most efficent, that should cut down on some over head for the game. by what you said the game should run.
Try updating your vid card drivers
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

It's not good that your system crashes - although whenever I take a Gryphon ride or enter a city - the lag is real apparent.
Good luck! I hope you can resolve your problem!
Your problem is.....
128mb Geforce Fx5200 graphs card
Just to let you know, that card is worse than a GeForce 4 ti 4200
Don't get excited about a tax cut. It's like a mugger giving you back fare for a taxi.
the same thing happens to me but i have shitty equipment. i put everything to as low as it goes and it runs better but i still get lag when in cities, lots of it sometimes.
Goddam mad dog gnaws wang! Goddam mad dog!
Maybe the draw distance is too long?
ALso how much harddrive space do you have left and when was the last time you defraged it.... That can be some of your problem is your swap file is spread all over your drive. And as other people have suggested try turning your graphics setting down some. The FX5200 card is ok but not that great for WoW.

Talesin, I had exactly the same setup as you do when i was playing WoW, except my 5200 was the 64mb. Are you using a dell laptop? or any other type of laptop for that matter? If you are running on a laptop like I am, I used to have this problem. Take a can of compressed air and spray it into the back fan where the comes out of the computer. Dust taken in from the fan on the bottom may have clogged your heat sick and fan, which is causing your computer to over heat and decrease its performance.
Im not sure what the problem could be since i had no problems other than the common errors other people had. The game ran fine and i didnt have to turn the settings down to low. This makes me think it is something on your hard drive perhaps? Maybe spyware choking up your connection or something else screwing it up? Also, if you are running norton anti virus, put wow into the exclusions list. Most likely you have tried the obvious things such as vid card drivers and defrag.
Hope this helps some.
I'm running an HP desktop not a laptop, but to be honest it is a while since it did do a defrag , i scan for spyware etc regularly too. I think just ned to have a close look at the processes my PC is running and see if i can kill off some of the crap I dont need.
