EverQuest II players have a lot of new goodies to look forward today with the release of the new Halas Reborn update. Halas Reborn sees the rebirth of the icy zone of Halas, a popular locale in the original EverQuest, which has returned with a few changes and brings with it two new raids, improvements to quest progression through the implementation of a new "Storyline" tab, a revamp of the game's travel system, PvP updates and more!
Read the patch notes here for the full details.

Not sure about the new starting zone or raid zones. but travel sounds like it's going to be a lot easier.

Qeynos and Freeport starting zones are gone! Halas... not so great. Kind meh starter zone and small main city. Forgot about travel, wonder if SM 3.0 made it in?
Travel change is nice, though unobvious in places. Why make a dude for sokobar when we're used to the post? Trying SM 3.0 now.
And, any differences in graphic-quality with SM3? Or performance?
this. does SM3 make a huge difference?

Yes.
Note: That slideshow is almost a year old, and they've been optimizing it since.
The new Halas has none of the originals charm. They would have been better off just copying the existing model from eq1 and putting in eq2, save for a fire that gutted out Mcquaid's bar!!
I prefer real ingame-footage, not some old, "photoshoped" developer-"screenshots"
And I like to know whether the GPU is now better used and the CPU is relieved.
Gonna try it out this afternoon with an all new character that will live there.
Whoops, I was gonna ask, anythign that may caus my character map to not how Halas as a starter city? created a barb and had no Halas on my map. Can a custum GUI cause that?

If those shots are any indication then....blah. Scrap the engine completely and come out with EQ3 already.
Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising everytime we fall.
Looks really good, EQ and EQ2 have always been among my favorite game. I don't play EQ 1 anymore, but it was fun for it's time.
