I was last subbed to Warhammer almost a year ago. I still keep tabs on the game and have a free trial account. At times I feel like re-activating my old account but never do it just because I'm busy with other games and RL.
I am aware of the credit card debacle, and the hilarity & fail aside, I gave some benefit of the doubt to Mythic.
Last week, I get an email from Mythic stating that my credit card was rejected and I need to correct my billing info. No, it was not a phishing email. It's a good thing I had that credit card replaced a while ago, otherwise I would have been charged.
Bottom line, any interest I ever had in re-activating has been crushed by this nonsense. There is no way I would ever provide any CC info to Mythic, hence I will never be playing their game. Truly epic fail!
Playing: EvE, Warhammer free unlimited trial, Allods Online
Played: Anarchy Online, WoW, Warhammer, AoC, Ryzom. Aion

So you are complaining you got billed when in actual fact you didn't get billed just they seem to have tried. If a company bills me and they refuse to refund me then there is a problem.
Are you slow? I am complaining that they actually tried to bill my long canceled subscription. It shows that the company cannot be trusted with a credit card number.

It's not just Mythic. Not that that excuses them in any way.
You can pay by game cards, BTW. That is the only way I pay for MMOs.

You wouldnt be at all worried about a company trying to bill you for something thats been long cancelled? Its not the fact that they didnt actually bill him. Its the fact that they even tried.
I guess if someone shoots at you, but misses, there's no foul, right?

i try to stick with prepaid CC for my video games.
I have to agree, if that's true (and your sub was actually cancelled) then that is disturbing.

pffft that is nothing. You guys here talk as if this is somthing never done before. I've had 10x worse happin to me. Imagine being billed 2 x over with World of Nocraft Expansions on your account that you never purchased in the first place. Then blizzard telling you that theres nothing they can do. I ended up having to call my credit card company and have it taken off manually because blizzard figured that someone out there would purchase 2 burning crusades, and 2 wrath of the noobkings on the same account.
I also had a similar problem with other things, because in real life Im a graphic and web designer. I have my own web server so I can sell my artwork, t-shirts, web templates, and posters online. Well one day they descided to charge me for a whole 3 years worth (475$) when I only signed up for a 3 month reaccuring billing rate.
Best thing you can do is not use your credit card online for anything. Because once they have your credit card on file they can do whatever they want. There is so much scamming and misinformation that is being passed on the web that some of the companys end up trying to nail you in the end by charging you for things you never even signed up for in the first place.
You'd be surprised how unsecured credit cards are over the internet now.
Game companys love money, and if they can jipp a few customers and get away with billing them more then what they actually paid for. It works in benifit to them. Of course that is just my general observation so I could be ignorant on the subject, but in my experiance in dealing with this kind of thing. The game companys really arn't very helpful at all and seem to want this to happin so they can get a few extra bucks off people

A constant flow of chargebacks also affects Mythic reputation in a way where banks can just stop responding to Mystic billing services.
One of the benefits of using a "pre paid" credit card such as the PAYPAL one, is it will over time actually repair a bad credit rating. Because its classed as a credit card and its always technically in credit your seen as a good credit risk.
Also by using a pre paid card you can specify how much is on the card and limit it to whatever. For daoc US i used my mums credit card due to finishing university and no company touching me with a barge pole in terms of credit cards. I set up a direct debit every month for the money so all was fine.
Until i came to cancel, i canceled 2 of my three accoutns fine but the last one i couldnt cancel the web site would not allow me to cancel.
I emailed them and said " i want to cancel can you please clear this account" they wouldnt cancel it for me, In the end mum had to ring up the bank and say "we cant cancel this recuring bill the company has refused can we cancel the card"
Low and behold i get an email from mythic saying "card refused". I sent one back going "yes because we had to cancel".
So now everything is on prepaid if i run out of funds on the card i just walk down to the post office stick 20 quid on it walk home money is there ready.
Either way i think that if the MMO gaming comunity reported to the finanical regulations authority every time a company tries to charge for inactive accounts. Then the MMO companies might start investing in proper systems for handeling payments.
Yes well there was a lot more to it than what the OP put up.
Yes older accounts were charged (and subsequently refunded) but the real issue lay with the billing service they were using and some new subroutine that some noobjack programmer put in that basically went back and charged all available accounts. I got hit over 11x and while it DID cause me some havoc in my personal life I got the money, overcharges and overdraft fees either reversed or refunded.
Is it scary? Eh, this crap happens more than any of you might think. Like the guy above with his web services and graphic design business. It happens. I like WAR and atm will keep playing until something catches my interest. However there aren't a whole lof of games out there that actually have any action in it. PvP is far more entertaining than figuring out which raid i want to go one for drops they may never happen.
