World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Release Date May Be Delayed Again

bronecarbronecar Member Posts: 685

Summary: That is to say, the public date of Cataclysm has not been set in stone yet. This is not good news for millions of WoW players…

In a recent interview with Blizzard EVP of product development, Frank Pearce, who is also in charge of the project, VG247 asked a question about the release date of Cataclysm at the end of the chat?"But Cataclysm is set for release in 2010, so that should be out by the end of the year, yes?"

"Hopefully. If it's ready. If not, then we'll hold onto it. [Grins]." Frank Pearce said.

That is to say, the public date of Cataclysm has not been set in stone yet. This is not good news for millions of WoW players…oh wait, wait, isn't the number of the guys hovering around the Azeroth 11.5 million? YES, it is! But the remaining WoWers located in Mainland China are still playing The Burning Crusade there and waiting for the approval of Wrath of the Lich King from the appropriate agencies. So these guys obviously don't care about Cataclysm, they just wanna The Wrath of the Lich King.

Well, part of me wants to hope that this time they really don't release unfinished, buggy, server crashing content.

The other part knows thatm they will. Remember wintergrasp at release? Crashing servers left and right and all? Heck, without tuesday downtime they still have the server unable to register the effects of healing abilities at times.

Expect to see Cata around Christmas, whether it's finished or not.

Well Friends and Family beta started some 2 or 3  weeks ago, if all go as normal there will be 1 month F&F then 4 months invite beta which will bring the release to around November like the other expansions.

But its blizzard they wont bat an eye lid (wow never thought id use that expressing) if its not ready for Novemeber and pushed into Q1 2011.  Hell china dont even have Wotlk expansion yet thanks to the government there.

Starcraft 2 released in 8 weeks will soften the blow to blizzard investors.

If that is true I wonder if they have some emergency content they will put out. People are already sick and tired of ICC, imagine if they had to run that for 6 months or more.

At the moment all that is planned is Ruby Sanctum followed by Deathwing going postal on Azeroth, to the best of my knowledge anyways.

    Small Edit,

Of course, the "X Invasions" pre-expansion events have always contained top end gear and/or  tabards with unique looks.

This is the same statement Blizzard puts out for allllll their games.

They will release it when it's ready.

This is why in general the games are so good and so well received.

Do I wish Diablo 3 was out now? Yes.

At the cost of it being a great game? No.

Its disappointing and of course money and/or current subs will play a factor in it.. but their message with new games is always the same.

Blizzard has never been known to meet release datelines. They are always late and have always been. Judge by their previous games inclusive of WoW.

Dudes when will you learn that Blizz don't give a damn how much a game is delayed? Not a bad thing either.

    I play all ghame

Since when was taking ones time to ensure quality and well thought out content considered a bad thing. "If it's ready" is a wonderful quote, thank you for not paying attention too all the assholes that are rushing quality content. Theres another world outside of Azeroth maybe you should try it out some time. Let Blizzard do what they obviously do better than everyone else (not a fanboy comment just stating the facts) and be patient. Cataclysm will be amazing but amazing takes time.

Yeah i am starting to get sick of ICC too but it is not that bad to take a breather and don't have to do emblem run every day once you are decked out in 264 gear.

I am taking the time to level up alts, or collect pets, or do whatever the little fun in-between stuff instead of gearing up my main.

Blizzard is Blizzard because they don't give release dates 6 months in advance, then rush an unfinished product to the marketplace just to meet their stupid deadline.  Does nobody remember AOC??

I am doing what you are doing.  I've stopped really trying to increase my gear.  I am doing old-world acheivements like loremaster and some dungeons I never did on my main.  I'm also getting my alts all up to 80 so they are ready.  To me, the game actually feels fresh again because I am out of the 'gear' mode for awhile.

It's ready when it's ready - what is the big issue here?

Rushing an unfinished product out can be bad.

And dallying too long and losing market initiative can be bad.

Blizz falls more into the latter category; just look at sequels to Diablo II and Starcraft going on ten years now.  Ten years!

What I remember about Wintergrasp at release was it being insanely popular and half the server would participate in the battle. I mean, who knew that would have adverse effects on the server?

Cataclysm launching around Christmas? Finished or not? Oh you mean like The Burning Crusade? Like how that was supposed to launch in November and it was pushed back to January. Is that what you mean?

I mean more like how Wrath of The Lich  King promised new dances and aerial pvp combat. Maybe how they actaually had been told by their beta testers that the game wasn't ready yet, as well. But hey, not like anyone actually paid attention to the promises made prior to wrath on the actual wrath website and box, just the servers being down half the time for a week until they removed the battle for wintergrasp for the rest of that week. Nope..noone at all..

    (cept for me, apparently)

Personally I think they've taken too long. Wrath should have been 1 content patch less, either loose Uld or TotC (prefer if they dropped TotC and tied Uld into the wrath story better), but that's just what I think. A year and a half is by far enough for any expansion.

     I don't think Blizzard goes to E3.
