Shader model 3 not working...

BathnorBathnor Member UncommonPosts: 137

Greetings, I have heard lots of great things about the shader 3.0. I can not run them though. They always become unchecked. One of my guildmates suggested deleting the eeq2.ini file and then it would work. (I guess it worked for her) I have also read that it is only one line that you need to delete from the file. I have tried editing the file but could not save it. So I guess my question is, do I delete the file or does someone have some advice for me?

You should be ok to delete the file, once the EQ2 patcher is run it will auto download any missing files.

Dont take offense but i,ve got to ask, as it is the obvious, is it plug in question.......You do have a graphics card that supports shader 3, the eq2 auto detect will uncheck box if you card doesnt support it, as well as the known bug.

I have an ATI radeon HD 3600 series. I'll try deleting the file.

Seems like there is a bug with 3.0 shaders and AA from some of the other post I have see and they are still working out bugs with the current art work and the 3.0 shaders so it might not be anything on your system but something in game that they are still working on. I see where some are calling for a hotfix while others say disabling AA in your eq2.ini file will open up the 3.0 shaders. I dont play anymore but some searching should reveal a fix for yea. There are post here on mmorpg and on the sony forums about the issue.

With your current card and vista OS you should be able to use 3.0 shaders not sure what kinda performance you will get I would suspect a drop in FPS but if you can get it to work its atleast worth checking out.

Alright, so I deleted the eq2.ini file and then got the shaders to work. Nice effects, the only thing I did not like was it makes my black sunglasses look white.

I can't seem to get the other grafical option they added to work ... any suggestions for that one?

Sm 3.0 update brought in AA?  Previous you had to mod the eq2.ini and then use nvidia/ati control panel to enable aa and then only on sunday's with a full moon.

Yes. We know. Go tell the devs on the official forums. They're working on it. They need to know the problems you're having on THEIR FORUMS, not on these forums because these forums don't have anything to do with the official forums.

Just a few glitches that i too have with shader 3:

1-For example - on default shader model paladin armor looks ''shiny/grey'' or whatever as usual (as it was intended to be), as soon as i switch to 3.1 it turns black just as the standart newb dark knight armor. This ''glitch or bug'' might possibly be effecting other pieces of armor, as well.

2-The freaking fae!! They seem to be having MUCH darker skin colors than even the brightest skin color choice they have available, as soon as the new shader variant is turned on,

3-Fae again!! one of their wing choices, the first one on the list, looks TOTALLY MESSED UP when the shader is on,, BUT its just one that prepainted wing, others work fine.....

4-Ogres,,,,, or what they are called,,,,,,,,,,,, simply look wierder than usual like they are more aged or something

5-The game is overall quite darker but than again its not a big issue to me and we all prolly knew about it.

OTHERWISE, i run the game at maximum settings possible, and with the new shader on, the game looks sooooo beautiful, IMO! Sure the characters might be looking a bit like they are made of plastic as ever, but far be it for me to complain about it:P

But in the end, i reverted back to the ''regular'' old shader options since clearly the 3.0 is still a work in progress that the devs are aspiring to work on, and will be truly ready for use sometime in the future,

Now, time to copy and paste those 5 points i made to the EQ II technical forums:D

    Cheers!
