I strated playing at release and in my opinion the game started to get bad as soon as battlegrounds were introduced. World pvp was so much fun in WoW before battlegrounds, even if it was a bit pointless, the potential was amazing.

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.

Me. I've spent some time away - did EQ2 for a while, LOTRO - also have taken a whack at Conan, Vanguard, GW, EVE, Ryzom, etc., but I continue to return to WoW. My guild is close to downing Arthas - I might take a break till Catyclysm once we get that done.

I've played since Nov '04. Took a long break during TBC, missed all of the black temple and sunwell stuff. Had a few short breaks here and there to try new games. Unfortnatly for me, theres no game on the market that can replicate the combat mechanics of WoW. It's the main reason I still play that game rather than LOTRO or Vanguard. Both great, and buetiful games, but lacks either the population or fluidity I enjoy.

Hopefully SW:TOR will be a winner for me, we'll see. Although Cata looks good, it will just be another gear grind to the end. Then, rinse and repeat with another toon.

    Not I.

    Important facts:
    1. Free to Play games are poorly made.
    2. Casuals are not all idiots, but idiots call themselves casuals.
    3. Great solo and group content are not mutually exclusive, but they suffer when one is shoved into the mold of the other. The same is true of PvP and PvE.
    4. Community is more important than you think.

Gotta agree with this. I remember open world PvP as pointless but weirdly fun. One of my earliest wow memories was me standing on the road in Silverpine Forest outside of Sepulcher waiting for some horde to hit me so my guild mates hiding behind a rock could jump them. Lol pointless but fun. After BGs it all went to the twinks, really too bad. Except for 80s running around southern Eastern Kingdoms there really isn't much OWPvP going on.

    Played in some form:
UO til tram, AC, EQ, AO, WW2O, PS, SB, CoH, AC2, Hor, LoTRO, DDO, AoC, Aion, CO, STO
    Playing: WoW (for gf), WAR
    Waiting For: SWTOR, FFXVI
Hoping For: DCUO, Secret World, Earthrise
    -S- (UO Sonoma)

WoW was definitely an amazing experience for me in the beginning. I remember when the game was new and everything was so unfamiliar and fresh. There would be countless times where I would be doing a quest and just run off and explore for hours at a time, seeing new areas, new cities and just discovering everything with no particular direction or haste to reach that level cap.  I think the biggest failure of WoW is making everything that was so great, so... unnecessary.  Now we have this vast, beautiful world packed with superior content that only serves as a highway to the new downsized and compact content that makes everything accessible to anyone. While I understand that that's a good business plan, it's not what I expected and not what I hoped for. I guess what I hoped for was more integration with the original world. Again I understand the lore aspect I just think from a game aspect it doesn't make sense to neglect this massive amount of content and have it altogether be meaningless to those that it meant so much.

I just think it's sad that the times where we could assemble 100+ toons from all level ranges to trek across Kalmidor laying waste to everything are now over. I think those times are gone now and to be honest I don't look back. I've had a lot of fun with this game, and enjoyed the time I played, but everything that drew me in is now gone and it doesn't bother me any to be honest. I'd rather live with the good memories than to witness everything  that I enjoyed be so neglected in favor of something that is so vastly inferior.

So I guess in short I haven't played since vanilla, so I suppose I shouldn't be posting here, but I wanted to give at least some people some insight on why hardly anyone from vanilla plays anymore.
