Working as Intended's sandbox MMO Dawntide will be entering Open Beta come Monday, May 31st. Keep in mind that the developers will be wiping all existing character data for the Open Beta test, so don't get too attached to you existing characters!
A number of additions will be added to Dawntide (or have been already) on the path to Open Beta, find the details below:
A significantly revamped UI with better communication tools, tooltips and an in-game help section to guide new players.
North Vynn and the Free Waters, a collection of uninhabitated islands free for players to build on and claim for themselves.
Unconsciousness and bleeding mechanics that promotes safety in numbers when hunting.
Endurance-based skill gain system that rewards you for pacing yourself instead of macroing and grinding.
Cevanti as a selectable race.
Many skills such as cooking, hiding and stealth made fully functional.
Player markets where players can put up items for sale to fellow players.
Boat routes connecting the continents.

You mean there's an MMO where I can do the dishes and the laundry all in the same machine?!?!
Is this another poorly coded first person sandbox that is not anywhere near complete?
Sounds great. But I've got the same concern as Otakun.
Guess it can't hurt to play. We need a new sandbox darling here on mmorpg.com anyway.
Let us all hope and pray that this works out and doesnt go the way of Mortal and Craft of Gods.
World of Warcraft is the original creation of God. Real Life is in fact a WoW clone.
WAI opened up testing for all to test faction system in game. But I wouldn't consider this as an open beta persay. Most people hear beta and think of a game that is 90% ready for release, and as such use it as a trial. This game just isn't at that point yet.
This game is still very early in development, probably at least a year from release.
I personally would consider this an an open Alpha.
If the developers explicitly call it "Open Beta", then it's Open Beta. It's pretty much as good as they expect to make it for the time being, barring a few tweaks here and there.
As much as you might have expected more from the game, I think you need to take them at their word.
Bah.
Yet another attempt at a sandbox game, but in first-person. What's the deal with FPV, ugh. I'd consider giving this game a go, but the immersiveness of an MMO is highly contingent upon having an avatar we can relate to.
Well, im not usually a {insert pejorative here} with a gloomish remark before I even try the game, so I’m gonna try it.
At least WAI aint trolling for pre-order$ as a slight of hand to get unwittingly beta testers into a game that is 10% complete like Xsyon. That’s a positive start, so I’m with Dhaeman; cant hurt to check it out.
Well, tried it again after a 6 month hiatus and not much has changed. 1 race available. Poor controls, the mouse especially is way too sensitive (can spin circles with the slightest touch). Was in alpha and yes it has come a long way, can enter any building, rob npcs, just dont expect to kill things out of the gate. Its VERY difficult to kill things without a group, at least at lvl 1 it is. I'd say its an open-alpha, not beta, irregardless of what the dev says. Oh and there is no system options to change settings currently.
Open beta? This game is in an alpha stage as it stands now, just another poorly coded game that brought a bunch of peoples hopes up. Just wait till they see the game. Still has alot of work that needs to be done.
@ Oyjord:
Game is in third person, not first.
@ ninjajucer: There are system options available.
The game should still be in closed beta, and continue to be so for a while. The no level, skill based system is interesting, as well as the crafting system. Whoever gives it a go, remember that it it still a long way from release, and you're there to help the devs make a better game in the process
Whatever the devs want to call Beta is all fine and dandy, but what the public may view this stage of development is another thing entirely.
The fact is that this game is in VERY early stages of development. Although, I do believe it has great potential.
Less than 1/4th of map built
Only 1 player race available currently
People falling through ground constantly
Desync
Non-responsive UI & mouse/keyboard controls
Constant Crashes
Most of the games I've tested at this stage of development are refered to as "Alpha" stage, or at the very least "Closed Beta"
Now, I am not saying this to discourage testers from joining, we could always use more people testing in the game. Just be aware of what your getting into before you get your feet wet. I would hate to see people get all hyped up for Monday and then get their hopes dashed, or worse coming back to game sites and doing the Q_Q dance.
Anyways, for those that are planning to join the testers on monday...
Welcome to the open-alpha!
So... pretty much everyone who played it in Alpha or ClosedBeta states, are psychic? Was that how you got accepted?
Sure, you may wind up being right in the long run if it does wind up still having the same issues, but usually, going from closed to open beta = some fixes/change shave been made. You're saying what the state of the game WAS, not what it actually is/will be in Open Beta.
Might being nitpicky, but listing problems from a previous phase of testing as the "current" state of the game is kind of fasle, and does exactly what you say you don't want and discourages people from trying it out. Would be much better to either post it as such (the state it was in in closed beta), or just wait until Open Beta starts and THEN make a post about the current state after you se eif it has changed or not.
I love how people jump to conclusions just by reading other people's posts.
3rd person? Yay.
System options? Yay.
Let's hope it's like Heroes of Newerth's Open Beta - where it was for like a year before they released it.
Also, buy Heroes of Newerth if you liked DotA. :P (I like S2 games...)
I am playing EVE and it's alright... level V skills are a bit much.
You all need to learn to spell.
Everything I posted is the current state of the game as of today.
The reason for opening the ammount of testers is to test the faction system newly implemented into the game.
yes, you are being nit-picky. Quit trying to read more into posts than what is actually there.
Actually that statement is incorrect about the settings. I just downloaded and patched and on the very first screen where you login there is a button labeled "Options" has settings for screen and key assignments. The video settings are a little limited, but you can set size, vert sync, shadows and draw distances. Nothing for mouse sensitivity though, but alot of games don't have sensitivity settings in them.
I agree with the prior posters, it's a free download so what have you got to lose other than 20 or 30 minutes of your time. It could be like the con called Mortal Online and have you shell out $60 for a game that isn't even playable and releases in 11 more days (you thought DarkFAIL was bad, wait till you see their launch), and they could just set you to auto-renew without telling you about like SV has done.
Since I haven't logged into the game yet, I prefer to wait and hope for the best (especially since I haven't spent 1 red cent on the game.
They sold us a half-baked Fail-sauced pizza.
* With a side of monthly fee!
The graphics look pretty cool, but I'm not sure about the quality. There have been a large number of unfinished game foisted on the gaming community recently (STO, <cough>, <cough>).
So its not ready yet.... That give me a chance to break it which is the best thing about beta testing.
I will pay a visit and chew on the servers for a bit. And when it goes live lets hope it has a better community (ie people wont kill you purely because they can) and better run that Darkfall
I used to visit this site a lot however in recent years it has become the home of negative forum posts, illogical opinions and tantrums so I visit less often.
Played or Beta'd: UO / DAOC / Horizons / EQ2 / DDO / EVE / Archlord / PirateKingsOnline / Tabula Rasa / LOTRO / AOC / Champions / Darkfall / Mortal Online / DCUO / Rift / STO / SWTOR / TSW
Bring heavy machinery. I couldn't get past the charachter creation.
I run this on my laptop with no problems currently. However these tweaks to the settings.ini will help performance quite a bit.
Shadows=0 (this makes the largest impact on performance)
FarPlane=50000 to 75000
SpeadTreeFar=10000
These tweaks allowed my Laptop to run the game at about 30-40 fps.
of course the game still needs a alot of optimization, and WAI has debugging tools running in the background. So I expect it to improve as the Dawntide comes of age more.
cant even crate a account page errors out
wow this features sounds like heaven. Hope they are complete, this would kick butts. Conceptualy this is what sandbox game would look like
well they already announced that open beta is delayed
Guys..
This is worst ever.. Dawntide shouldn't been announced on mmorpg.com
Now it will turn out like MO.
Dawntide is STILL IN ALPHA STATE. Whether its open beta or not.
and WAI will release it when its ready, maybe a year or two - who knows!
Don't flame it cause its in alpha state when open beta starts please.. dont make it have bad reputation like MO.
Nice this I will check out, I just found this awhile ago and added it my
unofficial game-to-look-out-for-in-the-future.
