Wow you guys are talking like FF is actually a good game? It is just another grinding button mashing mindless EQ clone.
Seriously I do not know how you could actually play this.
I remember trying WOW out due to the hype, I got to level 20 and realised that the whole game was this tread mill to level up. Same as FF. You guys should seriously try out a real MMO where there is real combat, ie you have to actually aim, and one with out levels.
Frankly I am shocked at anyone that actually enjoys the FF series.

Yeah I know, I am always surprised that people like games that I don't too.
One time I was able to get past my narrow mindedness and actually realize why people like playing games I find boring, but then my arrogance got the best of me again. It was enlightening though.
Of course those people are just worse than me so it doesn't matter. Still, it was nice to see what the lower class likes.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
I remember the dunes so much, its the most fun ive EVER had playing any MMO.
The best part was watching another party Accidently pull 2 mobs instead of one and everyone would start panicing running in circles until they wiped.
Id be laughing my ass off by then but what really made me piss my pants was the sound of someone LVLING DOWN just as they died.
hahaha good freaking times.

too bad once i got max lvl there was no pvp and i hate raiding and boss killing, i know everyone LOVES to kill bosses but i enjoy pvping more than hunting down some special mob somewhere.
i hope ff XIV wil have tons of pvp cuz with guild wars 2 and blade and soul on its way. i think im acually gonna do the impossible and try to play multiple mmo's at the same time.

It won't, but should it? Why couldn't you play GW2 for your PvP and XIV for your PvE? Considering one of them is free, it would work better that way. Or not play XIV at all, if PvE is not your thing.

FF is one of the few MMOs that's 100% PvE centered and that's something that NEVER should change.

I guess.... thats something i thought of too. but i remember getting so frustrated in FF 11 when we got our party to a lvling spot and right as our tank or puller was going to pull. another party would pull it and without being able to KS, all we could do was yell at them .
God i burned with fury cuz i couldnt kill them, i couldnt KS them, i couldnt even heal the mob. just Nothing but whine.
and i remmeber thousands of players complained about this to GM's people would simply say. quit qqing and get a better puller.
if the game had pvp , players would take matters into their own hands instead of crying to the gms about it.
Ks me ? ur ass is mine.
with an attitude like this a party that took them 2 hours to make and get there will think twice about ksing or stealing or pvping fearing the distance to travel. and vice versa, a party already at a spot might not want to engage in pvp fearing they might lose and have to run all the way back.
plus pvp also gets rid of monopolization that existed in FF, certain linkshells camped monsters 24/7 7days a week. almost to what second it would spawn and pull it before u could even react. i thought this was a major flaw that a pvp game wouldnt have.
of course if u brought ur whole guild out then no one could touch u, but realistcly u cant have ur clan out there forever.... eventually ull be by urself and vulnurable to losing the mob to a coulpe of players that need that monster..
I don't see why it shouldn't be left for GM's to handle.
Not to mention you aren't any better than them if you go and PK their party.
But its irrelevant, that kind of thing isn't possible in XIV..
Seriously tho, GW2 sounds like a better option for you. The more SE deals with PvP, thats less PvE content for us who enjoy it. It's better to play a different game rather than try to change the game to suit your preferences in exchange of everyone else.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
Why all these people want to change all mmos to their liking?
This is the only true PVE mmo that is coming out after lotro.
Both FFXI and Lotro have good subs so the lack of pvp didn't make them lose that much subs like these people think.
So for the love of god let us have a friggin pve mmo once every few years!!! pvp mmo are coming out like ants but most of you want the perfect mmo and you will NEVER have it! enough with your "perfect mmo" and play a game to have fun /sigh

You're talking about nonconsentual non-RvR open PvP as a way to detract people from KSing? Riddle me this, Batman: if you could attack other players, what's to stop the party who wants your spot from attacking you while you're fighting that mob that you pulled? Nonconsentual PvP has always, always, always, always been about attacking your target while you have the advantage over them, either because they don't know you're there, because they are low on HP or MP, because you are higher level or have greater numbers, or because you're in your PvP gear while they're in their PvE gear. The idea that people will take the ability to attack other players anytime anywhere for any reason and use it primarily as a tool for punishing antisocial behavior is a joke.
All your KS rage comes from the fact that you think you're entitled to a mob just because you saw it first... or because you saw it second but didn't see the other guy about to pull it. Is this really a reason to "take matters into your own hands"? Even if you don't realize it, what you're advocating is just another, even more frustrating form of KS: instead of the mobs going to the party with the superior puller, the mobs go to the party with the superior PvP ability (due to higher levels, better gear, OP classes, whatever).
Moot point though, because it's already set in stone that there won't be open PvP in FFXIV.

anyways lets answer ur questions even though they all are retorical.
Whats stoping them is i am in a party just like they are. and they wont know what our parties pvp skill is at so they wont just attack us cuz we could be a noob party that sucks in pvp OR we could very well be a very organized party thats using ventrilo and pvp ready skills hotkeyed.
second question, If they attacked me or anyone while low hp. This never happens in FF because you always lvl in a party. and simlpy put as soon as u see another party coming to ur spot it is common sense the healer heals everyone to full fearing the worst to come.
Higher lvl than me and pvp VS PVE gear. Well its quiet easy to put a noob protection as many games have it. As for the gears. FF never had PVE vs PVP gear. so the best giving defence shield will be the best defence shield wether ur fighting a monster or a player. Duh....
now that last part u mention someone having better gear than you. well of course thats what we play for. to get that good gear to be good. but isnt it pointless to have THE BEST ARMOR IN THE GAME if all u need it for is killing the same boss monster over and over. (that u can still kill with decent armor only the healer will have to use a few extra pots healing).
pvp is NOT a bad thing, because its people like you who wont give it a chance and just panic when another player is attacking u.
EG: my sister used to play wow and she was great at grinding, the moment someone attacked her she start screaming and panicing, a guy 10 lvls lower would always kill her so one day i was watching her play and she got attacked i told her,
now that last part u mention someone having better gear than you. well of course thats what we play for. to get that good gear to be good. but isnt it pointless to have THE BEST ARMOR IN THE GAME if all u need it for is killing the same boss monster over and over. This statement underlines the primary issue with your arguments...which is that you don't know anything about FFXI. It is not WoW, you don't hit the level cap, get the best gear, and then kill the raid boss over and over...the game is not structured in such a way so as to do that effectively.
Nobody said PvP was bad, they said it doesn't belong in this sort of game...which is true. The argument you use for ppl not liking PvP (suggesting that it's that they;re no good at it and they panick) can be used in the exact same fashion for your whole "I hate being KS'ed" argument (the one you assert as the reason PvP is necessary)...it's not a problem with KS'ing, and PvP isn't necessary in order to deal with the issue, it's that you suck as a puller...or your party leader sucks at finding a decent camp.
Quit trying to turn it into WoW, the pro-PvP ppl like PvP, okay...that's fine...it's not in this game...so quit bitching and go find a different game to be interested in.

Yea, honestly to even come to a FFXI or FFXIV board and talk about PVP is ridiculous. And they play nothing like wow. NOTHING... Still both games have cool things about them, but mainly before they were watered down. FFXI and FFXIV are/will be about PVE and an adventure, exploring new things, and not purchasing a dungeon guide to get there. By the way most of this will be done in groups with likeminded individuals. None of you will be doing it for gear. FFXI has a different gear system, some of the best gear and accessories in game come from easy kill NM's(until higher levels)... at level 55 I grinded money for 2 months to be able to purchase the best bow in the entire game(when I played)... LEVEL 55!!! Thats 20 away from level cap! FFXI and FFXIV are a different breed of MMO, for different players =]
Just to be clear, my post was about MMOs in general and how open PvP is not a suitable solution for KSing in any game whatsoever. I wasn't talking about FFXI or FFXIV specifically; I think you could fill a 500-page book with reasons to not put unrestricted PvP into FFXI. I am not against PvP (last MMO was Aion which is billed as a PvP-centric game), I just don't think it is a positive addition to every game.
its true FF 14 wont be or have a good pvp structure. So for allyou pvpers out there this isnt ur game. The only reason i take my time to talk about pvp is because i did play FF 11. i loved it, and as it was fun lvling and questing i wished this great game had pvp as well.
When i found out ff 14 was on the making, i prayed it would have pvp too. in fact i dont even care if its ff 11 with pvp. id be happy with that!.
but they are going to follow their path and stay true to pve style, everyone is a good guy and the only way to prove ur worth is how much u know about the game.
im not hating on FF 14, just sad that one of my favorite games of all times is being remade and redone but still no pvp.
BTW i never played wow. i was a lineage 2 / aion player . although my sister did play wow i didnt. and i was using that as an example. im not trying to make ff like wow. cuz i never liked wow and i did enjoy ff 11.
i played wht mage sub black , tarutaru, sandoria , fairy server, Forsaken link shell holla.!
Honestly I hated FFXI's 1-20, you had an underdeveloped class, grouping with a bunch of other underdeveloped classes, killing monsters over and over. It wasn't very fun for me.

Completely agree, and i did it 8 times.
Honestly, the only way i got though it after the first time was dual boxing a healer.
To me, grouping became fun around 30 when you had enough hp/mp and skills to not possibly die on every mob.
I remember being lvl 1 for the first time, which was in 2003, and I remember in the beginning everyone would help each other but somewhere along the line that all changed. Now MOST veteren players would ignore anyone who would ask for help such as how to get to the AH ,(Auction House for those who have never played an mmo) and they would reply with something along the lines of gtfo noob or find it yourself according to new players I have talked to and tried to help.
Aside from all that, Lvl 1-20 as several people stated was one the most exciting parts of the game, such as getting through the forest and avoiding goblins, tigers. I miss that feeling where you had to hold your breath in hopes they wont see you so you can get to Jeuno safely. Perhaps that feeling only exists for those who are first time mmo players. I guess dunes, no matter what server is the place that no matter what setup you have will always fail and result in death majority of the time unless you have someone to powerlevel you.

Did they get rid of the mentor system? I also played back in 2003 (until ~2005) and I recall searching for local mentors to ask for help.
I know there were a few people who shut their mentor flag off after I'd whisper them, but by and large the mentors were more than happy to help.
One thing that's nice about the slower pace of the game is you can chat with someone while doing other things and it doesn't get you and/or other people killed. I fondly remember becoming a mentor after I hit 30. I really enjoyed the role (though some of my friends thought I was nuts.)
That's one thing I hope makes the transfer from XI to XIV. It would be nice if they found a way to reward helpful mentors. Perhaps create a mentor specific interface and assign someone a random mentor online. Once the conversation is done let the player seeking help rate the mentor and the mentor can earn a reward for being helpful. A title or robe or pet. Something not game breaking but kinda cool.

I think the Mentor system was an idea of Sage Sundi, the Global Online Producer and Lead GM of XI. He's always been fascinated by stuff like this, from the times when he was still one of the producers (or director?) of Ultima Online.. so I'm fairly certain he'll implement a feature like this later on in XIV as well. He's the Online Producer there as well, after all.

Eurytos' Bow. Drops from the damn Eastern Shadow that only spawns every 18-3 hours. Camping that NM sucked balls but, was then best damn bow outside of upgraded Relic Bow.
The community made the game.... completely.
IF THE COMMUNITY EXISTS IN FFXIV I WILL PLAY IT FOR SURE!!!

= Scent to bed =
Trying to get to Jeuno for the first time with no form of sneak or invis and no map was absolutely terrifying.
I so miss feeling like that.
