Interesting move to release a weather system, considering that they have most features turned off, and some parts of the game are still bugged.. Ah well, we'll see how it turns out
Because they screwed a lot of people over pretty badly and produced a fairly shoddy title?
do not listen to this guy, the game has not even released yet lol.
The game is being released in a week. If a game is shoddy now, it will be shoddy next week as well, and most likely for a few months after release too.

Thank goodness the game isn't shoddy then! A small list of bugs can be fixed in no time and when they're fixed they're usually gone forever. The game has a good solid base of features to work upon and grow even more but getting back on to the topic very nice to see a weather system! So unexpected, bravo SV.
i didnt play the game (maybe never will) but its always funny to see players talk bad about this game..
it may be bad now but for me i dont care if a game is(was) in beta.
maybe at release the game is alot better and you found ur self the best game there is.
if nothing is fixed they will go bankrupt and youll never hear of mortal online again.
why this game has to be discussed 1 million times on a flaming unpositive way?..
Because they screwed a lot of people over pretty badly and produced a fairly shoddy title?
I've come to the realization that a large number of the MMO players who yearn for a Full loot, PVP, Sandbox type MMO will never be happy with anything that is released. The companies that could release the fully polished MMO that these players want are not interested in the small market that would be attracted to it. The small companies that are interested in the Full loot, PVP, Sandbox player base do not have the capital to spend the time developing these games for years on end with no cashflow until they are fully polished. So, we find ourselves in a quandary.
I have no interest in MO but I find it hilarious that everytime a small company tries to cater to the Sandbox fans, these same fans end up trying to destroy said company on boards like these. The shortsightedness is amazing and sad at the same time.

You have no intertest in MO, telling me you never even tried the beta (which most of the people bashing the game, including myself have) and yet you find posters comments hilarious?
GG.
We want a pvp, full loot, open world game, just as you describe, and MO could be that game if everything from the ground up wasnt so fundamentally flawed.
Just because theyre a smaller company with less cash flow doesnt mean theyre going to get a free pass after promising so much, and yet delivering so very little.

Completely disagree with your first comment about never being happy about anything that is released. The sandboxes that are currently being released are crap and the companies making them are designing them without the large markets in mind. I also disagree that it's a small market, EVE has proven this to be nothing but a cliche response from sandbox haters. 300,000 subscriptions in a sci-fi setting that is far less popular than a high fantasy setting. Unfortunately these companies have the same twisted perception on this that you do, so you are correct in saying that companies with the funds and expertise will not devote themselves to a project of this magnitude. Yes, it most certainly is a quandry. It's a shame that there aren't enough companies out there to make a wide variety of sandbox MMO's so that the players can pick and choose the ones that fit their playstyles.
These small companies keep trying to revisit the glory of old Ultima Online and end up failing. There is very little in the form of evolution for the sandbox. All the while, you see theme-park after theme-park being released. Slowly getting better and building on ideas in a more efficient and stylish way. Yet companies making sandboxes continue to bash their heads against a 15 year old steel wall, leaving them bloodied and battered when it's all said and done.
Whether sandbox fans like it or not, these games have to be designed with the sheep in mind. The wolf will always be the wolf, but the sheep must have reason to stay or the flock will eventually die out. Safe cities, safe houses, no stealing, mechanics in place to benefit crafters and harvesters, harsh GLOBAL murder system, various ways to travel that do not kill exploration, no mounted combat, no classes, mechanics to do away with macroing, and for gods sake.. a familar combat and camera system. Why in the world do these companies think 1st person is the way to go when it's obvious that 3rd person is the most popular. It's as if they are willingly commiting suicide while making these choices. It will NEVER change until these companies move foward with the rest of the players. That is the reality. It's a niche market because the companies make it niche, and by niche I mean bad. Oh and by the way, I thought Ultima Online was a great game, FOR IT'S TIME.
Even if you don't agree with all of my suggestions, you can't honestly sit there and believe that in order to progress.. these companies must stay in the same place forever. Something has to give. It won't be the players. So what does that mean?
And yes, I gave my $75 to StarVault in hopes that they would produce a game that I could grow to love. Right now it's not what I wanted. Perhaps I will just have to wait a bit longer. I won't be the only one.
Patch be good, things much more stable, loggin doesn't take a half hour, weather is wonky but hey they're testing it, cool precursor though of things to come if this is a small update can't wait to see the full meal deal.
I must be dated because I started playing online games in FPV (after text) so it really doesn't bother me, I actualy prefer it for most games, TPV to me was always just good for screenies or RTS.

Where did you get that I haven't tried the beta?..................Go ahead and keep bashing the only companies trying to deliver the types of game you're interested in. Tear them down before they even get to market so that you run off half of the potential playerbase. That's a recipe for getting exactly what you want. Seems to be working well for you guys so far. And yes, I still find the self destructive thought process behind this to be sad but hilarious.
Is there a patch scheduled that enables the rest of the game? Not sure why theyre adding fluff when so much is broken atm.
I don't know about the schedule for that patch (patches, more likely). I know SV had been planning to change thieving and housing for awhile now (was slated for before release), so I'm guessing that SV just decided to revamp those systems while they have a 'clean slate' to do so.
OT: I'm pretty happy with this patch, most of the game-breaking bugs that've been around since the latest build (and before) have been fixed. I dunno why weather is being implemented at the moment, but oh well.

Why should fans of niche markets lower their standards just because there are fewer games in that category, or because the team developing it is a newcomer in the market? Garbage is garbage regardless of whether it's mainstream or niche, AAA or indie and there is no scenario I can think of where players should be happy about forking out premium prices for inferior products.
Besides, are you trying to imply that the reason the game is in such a mess is because people were vocal in criticising what a mess the game is in? That doesn't make sense to me. People criticise MO because the game is in a mess, not the other way around, and that is purely down to either the team's inability to handle the size of the project they set themselves, or flaws in their original design.

I love MO and I hope it will succeed but I'm just trying to understand.
I will explain why,
We have had an intern that did his project at our company, the project was to create an extremely advanced weather system, a simulation close to real life weather functions. We happened to have a feature which is a basic weather system for our game. It was not high on our prio list because of other core features needs the programmer’s time. Now we got a question from an very talented programmer "the intern" if he could do his project at our office which could cover our basic weather system but a lot more advanced. Because we had the opportunity to accept we gladly did. He have been working nonstop on this without interfering with our core feature prio list, we saw it as a big bonus to get this amazing looking weather system into our game before release. And I can only guess it's welcomed by most of us. You will soon get an update on how this system works, we may even add a real time rendering screen on our website to show the "local" ingame weather and temperatures. Next step is to attach the temperature to our temp feature which makes it pretty interesting when it comes to players and different equipments to deal with the temps.
I hope this makes it logic why we get the weather system in for the test now?

------ DISABLED SYSTEMS ------
- Housing (Houses, keeps, palisades and bridges)
- Guilds
- Thievery
- Line of sight checks for Magic temporarily turned off.
- Locking/Decreasing of Attributes and Skills.
none of that was broken, they just improving the systems for release, how is that a ploblem?, its like 100% chance of the same system being in or a improved version so theres nothing to fret about.

so far this patch is 30mb and it fixed the long loading times, character creation is now instant and loading into world is 10 secs for me.
its so cool, theres snow in fab, which is pretty sweet.

Still...Do they plan on releasing without these? They've been off since the new engine, do they just not work with the upgrade?
A lie which is half a truth is ever the blackest of lies.

This.
I'm a (not so much) proud CE owner. I will not QQ about my lost money, it was an investment that tanked, it happens.
In my mind, pre-ordering a game from a indie dev with no experience was like buying stock in a start-up.
