What the...? Found a release date..

PigozzPigozz Member UncommonPosts: 886

I was just crossing e-shops to buy guildwars 1 as I never played it (also pls give me a help, should I buy all add-ons or not, and which then...nvm) and wanted to get into the story of the world, when I saw a pre-order for GW2, I clicked on it and there it was: the release date of February 2011!!!

I instantly thought it is a misinformed e-shop, but they had a pretty solid info there so I checked other shops and there it was too! on one website actually the exact date of 28.2.2011!!

So I wonder if there's any true about that and if you seen it on shops in your country

this is the link http://www.supergamer.cz/guild-wars-p-49663.html?utm_campain=zbozicz&utm_source=zbozi

but I guess few of you here know Czech language but the date is pretty clear to see...

So what do you think? I wouldn"t mind if the game is released in 2012 as long as its gonna rock but 2011 february...nice surprise there:))

I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them

Thats not the release date. It's a just a placeholder companies use for pre-orders. It's just a guess many companies use them. Only when ArenaNet tells us the release day will it be official. Everything else is a guess.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that at the moment even Arenanet doesn't know the release date.

Gamestop says 11-02-2010. Retailers obviously do not know exact dates but they seem to serve as a good relative indicator. Another good indicator is the hype machine usually only spools up within 6-12 months from release. I think late 2010 to early 2011 is a realistic estimate.

Tell that to swtor.... Anyway I'd say mid-late 2011 considering how many times they they've pushed back the beta due to creating and polishing content taking longer than expected. Even in recent interviews they're still mentioning that.

I honestly don't expect a beta this year and it still sounds like they've got a fair bit to go. I wouldn't put my hopes up for a early 2011 release.

The novel, "Ghosts of Ascalon" has a release date of July 27. That, along with the rush of new info we've seen lately has me leaning toward a late Fall, early Winter release. ArenaNet may be keeping mum on this waiting for Blizzard to set a release date for Cataclysm. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that Blizzard would try to release around the same time in an effort to overshadow GW2. If this happens, my plan is to play Guild Wars 2 and let my Cataclysm Collector's Box sit unopened for a while.

It's not coming out this year that's been confirmed.

NcSoft q1 earning releases said that gw2 was on shedule for it's 2011 release with a possible beta late 2010

    http://www.ncsoft.net/global/ir/quarterly.aspx?BID=&BC=2010

(recording of a conference call gw2 info 30mins in)

It also has been widely known that gw2 would be released in 2011 since 2009

"I believe there will be a certain public event in the year 2010, so at this point it could be at least a closed beta test for [Guild Wars 2 and Korea-oriented martial-arms MMOG Blade & Soul]," he said. "The commercialization will be expected at this point probably sometime in the year 2011."

    http://kotaku.com/5402283/guild-wars-2-coming-in-2011

However It is unsure if beta will occur in 2010 as A-net has been mentioning how it's taking a long time to make the game ready for beta.

"Although we've never stated a release date (and still haven't) our timeline to beta (which we still haven't talked about) has been a bit slower than we'd originally hoped. This is primarily due to a few factors. First the game is really really big, not only just in terms of total world size but also in terms of how dense the world is with content. We could have made the decision to cut all of this content and save ourselves some time but our goal is to create the best MMO ever and we didn't feel like that goal would be served by cutting content. All of this content also meant that we needed to develop some really robust tools to be able to implement and polish things to a high degree. We're also doing a lot of new and risky things with the design of Guild Wars 2. After we created Prophecies it was a lot easier for us to generate entire campaigns worth of content because we were largely working with systems that we had worked with before. Now with Guild Wars 2 there are a lot of things for us to learn and a lot of new things to discover as we develop the game. In any case, we understand how important Guild Wars 2 is to our players and we won't be releasing it until we know it's the highly polished, amazing experience they deserve."

Also remember there are coming 3 GW books and I think it would be a good idea to get them all out before the game, because gamers wont have time to read once the game launch. All three books detail the time between GW1 and GW2 and I think they want this out before the game so we can pick up on the story in GW2.

Currently my guess on release will be Q2 or Q3 next year. By the sound of it there are just so amazingly much content and to get it all polished will take time.

  • NoEndInLifeNoEndInLife Member Posts: 189

My guess is that GW2 will be released a year from now.

Makes sense. They are polishing a huge amount of content.

If they do manage to get GW2 in by February, that would be awesome.

Speaking of books, the first one was scheduled to come out this month.

These are never wrong. Especially when the maker of the game hasn't even decieded when to release it.

Such high hopes for this game. With amazing new ideas and a direction that could really raise the bar for future MMO's. I just hope it lives up to the hype. Please don't let me down, please, please, please.

Jules: Yeah, but, you are aware that there's an invention called television, and on this invention they show shows, right?

Feb. is a good estimate I think. The WoW Cataclysm hype will fade after release. People will be getting impatient for The Old REpublic. And that date should be before Diablo 3. Which I guess doesnt really matter.. going to buy GW2 and Diablo 3 either way :-p

Though past the competitive worries. If this game lives up to the hype and dev's statements(which games do not do often) then they could release it the same day as Cataclysm and still have great and/or better sales :) I mean half the things I see in GW makes me feel like I am back playing a MUD in the old days. Which to me is the best thing that could happen to GMMO's.

When you are only halfway through the year and the dev is not sure if they will be able to get the game to the beta stage before the year's end, don't plan on playing the game anytime soon.  Especially when you consider the fact that these guys are crafting some very ambitious and risky game mechanics and intend on pulling them off perfectly - that will require more time programming and more time testing.

I think GW2 being released by Q2 of 2011 is beng optimistic honestly.  I think we got 1 to 1.5 years before this game releases.

Part of me hopes I am wrong because I am really looking forward to this game, but also part of me hopes I am right because the more time they take, the better it will be.

I can keep myself busy with a few other games while Anet takes there sweet time crafting a revolutionary MMORPG.

they can take their time while i play through all the GW expansions :-) i dont care if they live up to the hype or not i shall buy the game . I am certain itll be as sweet as GW1 was and even better . Plus, more props to them for taking the extra miles to make the game huge and full of content to keep us busy for years to come . i Suspect their will be expansions ofc and then they will start a GW 3 and so one and i truly beleave they really got somthin nice to work with here.

Early 2011 would be my best bt, if they can release in Q1 2011 before SWTOR and FFXIII they could sell a lot more boxes.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Or they could sell well after and probably sell the same amount of boxes. It makes a heck of a lot more sense to after unless if the games far from ready your expecting them to rush the release.

We don't even know for sure that swtor will be sold before 2012. Probably better of making sure the games ready before even thinking about selling it.

I am really looking to see Guild Wars 2 out sometime between November of this year and April of next year.   The best time to release it would be November time frame to catch the holiday season.   Give that they are letting people play it pubicly in August, they might actually make a November release.

Consider Factions & Nightfall; they prove that ANet has a history of not giving much information until a few months before release.  On the other side, they did say that all three books would be released prior to the release of Guild Wars 2.

Update: Amazon changed thier page for Guild Wars 2.  It now includes what appears to be box art and this statement "This item will be released on November 2, 2010."  They also raised the price by ten dollars.  However, they also left in this statement "Official pricing and release date have not been announced by the publisher. These are estimates only and subject to change."  I guess it is still "your guess is as good as mine" where the actual release date is concerned.

  • NoEndInLifeNoEndInLife Member Posts: 189

    @ kzaske

I srsly doubt it will be released by November.

Beta might be out by November but definitely not the actual full game. :/

You would have though that over the years the community would have learnt not to post thousands and thousands of posts claiming that they have "found the release date" when in reality it is just a placeholder. But no. Seriously think before you post -.-
