I think I will try the 14 day trial. I know for sure its an open pvp world with death penalty (full loot) however want to know if there is an insurance for some gear.
Also, How are the classes balance? I read about magic been overpowered time ago, is this true?
Thanks.

Well, gogo .
1. There is no insurance. Dont wear what you cant afford to loose. Also, dont worry too much about it, gear will become very easy to obtain once you get the hang of it.
2. Thats a huge discussion still, I personally believe it is pretty balanced. Magic is expensive, time consuming to get, easier to own with once you learn it, Archery / melee, easier and cheaper to get, a bit harder to master ( harder to aim ), and it takes a bit better twitch-skills than magics imo. But i guess that depends on your play style, what you are used to and what not.
That being said, DFO is an awesome game, if you can wrap your mind around the full loot aspect of the game.
Alot of exciting stuff is happening in the near future, first thing of my mind is HP patch coming this week ( hopfully ) to change the way hit points are calculated , so the gap between VET and NEW player will be smaller, Hp wise at least .
Thx Joe.
More I read about DFO more I like it.
However still having serious doubts.
- Are there racials? I am fond of dwarfs, are there good?
- Can I craft gear and weapons so I can replace more or less my losses?
- Has DFO dungeons?
- As a former player of Conan on a pvp server, I dont expect mercy but I want to know if there are friendly players or just gankfest after gankfest.
- I understand even my own can kill me. Not very happy about that
- Is it difficult to find guilds?
Thanks again folks.
In all honesty, I suggest you download it, log on and just experience it yourself.
If you plan to play long term you should think about your race more carefully, but I think you should just try any race you like to start with. Trying a race for a few days is never a waste of time, the intimate knowledge of their starter areas is handy when they become your enemies later
There are some minor differences, eg orcs are slightly better in melee (with axes only) but it really doesnt matter within the first 14 days.
Just try it, you wont regret it.
And yes, you can craft your own gear.
Playing: Darkfall New Dawn (and planning to play Fallout 76)
Favourite games have included: UO, Lineage2, Darkfall, Lotro, Baldur's Gate, SSX, FF7 and yes the original Wizardry on an Apple IIe
BANKs are insurance - put stuff you don't wanna lose inside and take stuff that you can afford losing with you
Oh you forgot some points
- there is nothing to learn about magic with such huge area of effect
- korean style grind still ingame if you want to be competative
- Only skill which requires decent player skill is Archery for rest you got macros etc.

I don´t see the point of keeping my good stuff at the bank. Maybe cos I don´t know much about the game.
What is the point in doing such thing?
If I have pretty stuff I want to use it not to wear it at a social meeting/party/wedding or so.
As I said, I dont have the proper knowledge of DFO so I wish to hear it from veteran players.
But I dont think having an insurance (costly that is) is such a bad idea.
The reason people suggest keeping your good stuff in the bank is because you are basically garunteed to lose it. While you are out and about you have to worry about Vets which have skills and stats you can't compete with meaning they will kill you. Being a murderer in DFO doesn't matter since most simply live out of there Clan cities meaning your own race is very likely to kill you. If your out harvesting or skilling up your going to likely run into groups that are ganking new players and lowbies and they will kill you. Also many of these that will kill you will likely be mounted meaning you won't be able to get away.
Until you have gotten your stats up and etc. you won't be able to compete with anyone other than other new players and there really aren't many new players as most don't enjoy being prey to vets for months on end until they can get to a point where they can effectively fight back.
The fun in DFO comes from PvP and specifically Clan vs. Clan PvP which you won't really be much help in until much later in your game life. The PvE is fun at first but after the initial thrill of combat system wears off your left with a tedious lack luster PvE grind you must do in order to get to a point where you can actually participate in the fun and be more than canon fodder. You also do this grind for months while trying to avoid being ganked by other races, your own race, vets that you can't compete against, groups looking for easy targets to gank, etc.
All of that has led many to keep there good stuff in the bank because it's almost a garuntee your going to lose w/e you decide to take with you.
-melee and mount combat. You need to know how to time swings and get on people's backs. It's harder than you think and some people do suck at melee and mount combat.
bank is free and nearly unlimited space
Just for info there is a macro for mounted combat so you hit on 2 sides at the same time.
Left / right or fron / back. Ive seen it, ive done it.

Darkfall has one of the longest grinds I have seen in any non-Asian MMO. Heck, it probably beats most Asian MMOs. Having only read about Lineage 2's grind, I would say Darkfall's grind is comparable, though maybe slightly shorter. Be prepared to play this game for a year or more if you want to max out every skill. Some people have said you can be competitive in PvP after about a month of grinding.
I was grinding in DF for 2.5 months (and no AFK macroing as well). And it was nothing comparing to what it took me to get warlord in WoW. So perhaps you played other Darkfall or sooner you left it just after a one week of being owned by every noob you met...
This forum is full of trolls who know nothing of DF but pretend that know everything. That's a well known fact for every DF player...
Thx all. Architecto do you play in Europe or in USA?
Gonna try it for myself. In my experience games that REAL players spoke so well like this or Lotro must be for a reason.
I don't pretend I know everything of you. Only a part about DFO... Grind is a part of any RPG. It differs that genre from, say, actions. Every RPG game is about grind. I grinded in MM 6 and 7, Wizardry 8, Morrowind and Oblivion... And it's only offline RPGs. I'm an old school RPG player so some grind isn't a problem for me. In DF grind is ok. That pvp grind in WoW was stupid... And I bet your favorite gaming activity is forum trolling...
And again you claim to know everything about a person by a thread. You must be kinda forum troll god dont you?
I cant agree that grind is part of any RPG. I cant remember to have grinded in Baldurs gate or oblivion or in fallout or morrowind. The only offline RPGs were i grinded were FF8, where you had to grind/farm 100 sort of magic to max out your stat boost etc.
And btw what does have old school RPG to do with grind? If i remind correct in UO you could actually fully max out your toon in several weeks and its older then old school. Its kinda you are grind lover and want to say every one who doesnt love grind like you sucks .... kinda childish way to discuss.
Ahh and you were forced to grind pvp in WoW? A bad evil guy was standing next to you and held a pistol at your head and told you "grind pvp or ill make you suffer". And btw WoW isnt about pvp its PvE game ...
Trolling himself and claiming other to troll. *g* You made my day!
Funny though you claim to be old school and yet you behave childish. Almost ironic.

Yes Dwarves can make better armor and start out with more HP. Yes crafting your own stuff is great . .. although weaponsmithing and enchanting takes a long time to raise. Enchanting is very fun! You can skin mobs for enchanting mats and need certain mats for whatever you want to enchant your items with so you are kind of forced to farm mobs in many different parts of the world as some are found only in certain areas and the world is huge. Darkfall is a lot funner when you are having to go to new areas to explorer imo. Even when you have played as long as I have, whenever you go to a different area it is like being there for the first time in many ways.
You can craft gear for yourself to replace losses and this is why crafting is not a money-maker in DFO because almost everyone can craft or who has a close friend who can. There are dungeons that are a lot funner than they were a year ago and they are being revamped next expansion.
AoC was a fun game for me for a bit . .. but it doesn't compare to DFO at all. The PVP and PVE in Darkfall is so much funner that there is no comparison imho because in AoC you never get an adrenaline rush and it is all about auto-aim with combos. There is nothing to gain for PVPing in AoC. I grew tired of it very fast. I think that the PVE in Darkfall is great because the mobs seem to have real intelligence.
Dwarves are known for looking out for eachother. Humans are the most untrustworthy and 95% of the griefers are human.
Finding a clan is not difficult but finding a good one can be. Be careful of joining something that will hinder your character development.
People say to bank stuff often and I agree when it comes to money but unlike most people, I pretty much always wear my 2nd to best set of gear. As long as you have a ready bag of better gear than who cares if you die? Because I always wear better gear than most people I am more likely to win fights and my bank gets full (yes I mean it will not let me bank anymore) every once-in-awhile. Just the other day I was cleaning it out and ended up giving away about 300 items or so to various new people around the bank. I gave one guy so much that he was overencumbered . .. but got a tell from him yesterday saying that he rerolled and all of that stuff was lost . .. wow he had no idea what he did because it was all either magical or rank 40+. I have to give away stuff every month or two or my bank gets full and I cannot bank. It usually comes from reds who jump me while I am fighting mobs. My point being, do not horde stuff like most people do. There is no point in having something that you are not going to use. Losing things is a part of the game. Everything is eventually lost, even a city that you build.
Try out the 14 day trial but I must warn you that DFO has probably some of the worst first impressions out there. Nobody holds your hand at all and you really have to discover things for yourself. I had almost quit but had paid for a month so wanted to get my monies worth but now 15 months later I am soooo glad that I stayed because this is by far my favortie game now.

Dude I have played this game for 15 months and hardly ever grind at all. No I did not macro either.
STFU already. If Darkfall forced me to grind than I would not have played it.
If you are forcing yourself to grind than that is your problem, not mine. I am still going to kill you when you get everything capped anyways! haha
Seriously though, fuck games that make me grind. One of the main reasons that I have stuck with Darkfall is that I have not been limited by my level and I have been doing great without grinding. Actually come to think of it, I die more often now that I have 385 hp than I did when I had 250hp because I was more careful back then without thinking that I could solo everything like I have a bad habit of doing now . ..

This is the part of DF community which i disslike. They dont like your opinion, then they say "stfu, go back to wow, scrub etc".
Instead of flamming i would suggest you to roll a trial and say again you arent forced to grind. Yeah at launch you werent but now you are. At launch there werent vets who wtf pawned you just because they wanted to farm alligment or out of fun. At launch you had a chance against every one. These all statements doesnt fit the DF in this state.
You can rage and rampage more fanboy.
The grind is forced since you arent allowed to macro what vets have done for more then a year. Before you could avoid it by macroing and now you cant.
As i said roll a trial and go out and fight against vets. Then come again and say you arent forced to grind.
Funny though you always show your view of the game and you dont try to put yourself in the view of the newbs.
Maybe thats the logic of the fanboys.

The new patch is going to help out the game, more so with the hp curve
the game itself is very fun , full loot jut spices it up .. And well insurance for gear isnt necesarry , it very easy to come by , and the grind that every1 talks about is normal for any rpg , it takes you 2 to 3 months to be useful , and then 4 to 5 months to hold your ground on your own , and then 6 to 7 month to be considered vet and go on 1v3's
xianthos, if u dont like the game, dont post in its forums , your pointing out all the negative in the game, for that ill post all the epic pvp videos this game can show ... the game is fun , but it has its flaws, it isnt for everyody but if u can handle a grind , and lose some gear its a great game
Who told i dont like it? The flaws and low population destroyed my fun with in the game. Patch is the first step to the right direction and maybe the prestige classes will completly stop the need of every fu support spell needed to grind / macro up.
I just point out the negative sides so people are aware what they have to expect. If they still try it and like it, they will stick to the game. If the people get over the grind party (few months) they can get a lot of fun

Oh if thats the case, just dont put only negative comments in your post, because sure u can tell hem what to expect , but u can also tell them that after a month or 2 , the first time they defend themselves and get a kill the adrenaline rush i like jumping off a bridge
