A Stars Wars MMORPG without space combat is just another fantasy MMO with magic and glowing swords.
For the fans: let's face it a Science Fiction Fantasy game like SW without space flight is like an English Pub without the beer.
Is that why the majority of good star was games have no space flight in them at all? and if it is in there its minimal at best?
Really people, space stuff aside from battles plays an incredibly minor role in anything star wars.
What are you on about in the original trilogy space played a massive part, go and watch them. ONly until the new fucking movies that ruined everything where it turned into some fantasy bullshit.
Personally, I'd rather have SWG's crafting and resource gathering in SW:ToR than JTL, but thats just me.
Why not have all three? It's not like BioWare went cheap on the development.
Agreed. If a gimcrack outfit like SOE can put all three in a game - and make them work - then it would have been nice if Bioware had managed to incorporate them into a game for a hundred and fifty mil.
I never understood the mentality of those who left SWG because of JTL. I could see why folks were upset (adding space while the ground game was horribly broken) but leaving the game? Hell, JTL is arguably the only reason left to play!
They left because of the many bugs that went unfixed while JTL was worked on. So it's not JTL that made them leave, but the devs adding new features when they should have been fixing bugs. It shows a team that has no real clue how to handle their game as we have seen so many times recently.
But what is probably the real reason for a drop in subs at the time of JTL is actually WOW - it came out at about the same time. There is little doubt that it had a greater impact than JTL.
Personally I don't think there will be space combat in the game when it comes out. I would like it to release with great space and ground combat, but it's not realistic. I prefer they focus on one and get it down pat. And to people who say ignore the space combat, if Bioware does include it, more than likely it's going to be a part of character progression if they spend that much time/money on it.
Also my favourite Star Wars game was jedi knight 2 and from what I remember there was zero space combat.
Most of the memorable combat that I remember was on the ground or aboard a vehicle/ship. The shootout at the hangar at Mos Eisley, the fights aboard the deathstar, Hoth, Bespin, Endor and the duel on the second deathstar. Sure there are some cool space battles, but I always remember the exotic locations, planets and alien species more. I guess you could say that's what Star Wars is to me. I know it may not be everyone's dream of Star Wars, but surely it's an understandable one.
In addition: I'm not so sure there won't be space content just yet. So I'll just reserve that judgement.
Does that mean that Bioware can or should try to add all of these to the game? No. But all of them are certainly possibilities in the Star Wars universe. And personally I think that most of them would make for one hell of a MMORPG.
Yeah, I think all of that stuff would be pretty cool. Especially politics. Maybe have a side game of diplomacy like in Vangaurd.
Of course I'm not expecting it, I'd be a fool to expect all of that, but it does sound good.
Yeah and we aint expecting it from a 150mil budget game.... Do you fans already see the sadness of the whole thing??
Oh and space wars wont be in it....Wanna bet?
Oh my, 150 million would be three life times worth of allowance so they should be able to do anything!
I don't get why everyone assumes that the game costs 150 mil.
1 milion box sales would be 50 milion, EA never mentioned that they needed 1 million subscribers for atleast 6 months like the article implies.
The ground game looks more and more like WoW with lightsabers to me so with no space flight/combat I really dont have any reason to look forward to this game.
Space can save it for me but I'm not holding my breath.
Just another generic fantasy MMO looks like, and even the MMO part is still questionable, after a year of info it's still SPRPG.
Sad.
I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.

The only real space stuff in teh original trilogy is either A space battles or running from space battles, or B going from point a you know to point b you know.

I sometimes wonder if some of those people who left $OE SWG-NGE to go to BIOWARE's SW:TOR aren't just going out of spite and to cause problems, or maybe they just want to make it the way they thought the NGE should have been. Just makes me wonder.
The more $OE employees that keep going to Bioware, the less I feel like even trying SW:TOR.
I really hope there is flight/space in this game...
Star ("Implies.....space") Wars ("Implies.....combat")
...and I don't know what movies some of you watched, but growing up watching SW... I saw plenty of space/flight/combat, so leaving this out would be a game breaker imo... But then again, I blame Jar Jar for killing my interest in SW....
*edited to add... I'll still probably give this game a shot when released, but would be greatly disappointed if they leave out half of what the "universe" is about...

The space in star wars consists of battles, which you dont need space content to have, and flying from point a to point b, again which you dont need space content to have.
Star wars has ALWAYS been focused on land stuff.

So it looks like we're not getting a crafting system or space content. Instead it looks like we're getting a giant turd sandwich made for 10 year olds. I was looking forward to this game, but I think I've lost interest for now. I mean I like the traditional rpg elements and could care less for Star Wars. After all George Lucas totally screwed Star Wars in episodes 1-3 and tbh I didn't really care for Return of the Jedi either. Yep, I'm officially over Shit Wars.

It must be nostalgia, but SW BF space battles were some of the most well done space combat shooters imo, and for myself, I would love to see someone recapture that in an mmo where it "mattered" and impacted the game/character. But like I said, just disappointed if it isn't there but still willing to give the game a chance.
Seriously, people are expecting way too much at launch these days. I remember when all we got was a few zones to explore and later they'd even throw in some complimentary pvp. Games grow. EvE has been working on avatars out of ship characters for ages now. I'm sure if TOR is successful we'll see flight in the future.

lol, crafting and space make your game adult now? ROFL

You could expect at least something out of those 150 million dollars.
Unless they paid 130 million for the script writers, actors and cinematic animations that prerecorded all content.
I played P&P D&D yesterday, I didn't need an ingame cinematic to be in a place to adventure in.
Bioware swings at it but doens't hit the ball at all.
