Is MO like DFO????

DarkcrystalDarkcrystal Member UncommonPosts: 963

Is MO anything like DFO as far as the aimming on your own or even close to it , I played DFO for the first time and liked it but I can see , I would be better playing MO if its like it since I can start when everyone else does and I won't be behide.

Coming from 7yrs of Asheron call 1 Darktide, I miss FFA, and both games give me that , so I been looking for a game that will offer this but I hoping the controls are similiar to DFO as I really enjoyed that , the hot keys seem funky but I,m sure if I played it , it would of been better and easier.

I do not see myself playing DFO when all the vets are maxed or gonna just rape everyone anyways..So I hope MO will be my Asheron call, I miss FFA so bad..

Thats what PVP should be.. period I know MO has some issues I heard but I'm sure SV will do there best to make it a great game and since its a rare kind of game , alot of people who love PVP should enjoy it.

Anyways thanks in advance.

I played beta for awhile and coming from DFO being the last MMO I played I would say it was familiar controls wise, but everything else has it's own uniqueness, the combat is a little slower and with stamina drain you don't have the retarded figure eight melee combat. If you like DFO chances are you will like MO, the only thing they don't have is free based aiming for magic, but they have there way of balancing it out so mages aren't OP. With all the new features and changes to the system, it should be a different game from what Henrik stated on there IRC channel when I was playing MO. Sounded like it would be a lot more similar to Oblivion, which I hope this proves to be true but since beta has been down, will have to see come the 9th. I had a lot of fun pvping in this game, and it is good to group up with a good group of people and not a$$hats as they become targets for the people looking for RPer's and noob campers. I know we have gone in raiding groups of 20+ looking for people praying on the noobs and just random reds. I hope you give this a good shot since you enjoyed DFO as did I.

EDIT** Typos Also this game is the closest I have seen to UO since the good old days. I am young but I am a gaming old timer. HAHA!

I miss the old days though lol UO and AC was where it was at, well cool, I will prolly get Mo after a few days after release so see how the launch goes, then if all its goes decent then I will grap it, wish I played DFO a long time ago sigh

Normally I never listen to people and wish I never did as people bash good games sigh...

DFO is the only game I listen to others and never tried for myself and wish I did try it.. oh well I will continue to play DFO for the    2 weeks until MO comes out,.    I love skill based PVP not this crap now a days.

I would strongly suggest waiting half a year until you try MO. Currently it is quite bugged, most features turned off, and the majority aint even in. The game is empty, with decent core. You can craft, you can experince combat and ganking, you can kill some animals for their skin which is used in crafting and you can build houses/keeps/walls and some premade bridges. _That's it_

There is no territory control, no friend list, no mail system, no real rewards for PvE/Exploration, barelly any lore, no epic bosses or hidden dungeons(just some caves).

Game is in full fpv, so it differs from DFO a bit, and you can't have all your skills maxed (which is a good thing imo). But as said, the game lacks more features so I personally would wait quite a bit before playing it for a batter experince.

I've only played DFO for a couple months, but here's the main differences as far as I could tell

1- local banking.  Stuff put in a city bank can only be accessed by there.  (enter trade and supply routes, highway robbers)

2- combat is not so 'arcade-like'.  When first starting out (with low skills and noob weapons), combat feels clunky; once you get semi-decent skills and weapons the combat is still 'slow', but in a more tactical way.  Overall I prefer it over click-spam, though it could use improvement.

3- crafting is much more in-depth

4- very little grind.  Characters can be maxed out in a week or two.  There's still a 'grind to get money to buy weapons and crap' if you can't find clever ways around it, but that's true for DFO or any MMO I guess.

5- this one I'm not sure how to explain, but:  it just feels less like a counter-strike match than DFO did.

6- less territorial conquest features (though FFA PvP is all you really need to start, I guess).  The devs have stated they have plans for that post-release, but who knows when that'll come up.

7- less polished overall than DFO.

I feel the same about DFO.  I love the game but don't see myself catching up with the vets.  If they opened up a new server I would be there for sure.  I hope MO can satisfy that itch for me.

MO is going to be a great game, but like DFO in the beginning it will probably have a bumpy launch.  DFO was one of the best games I have played for about the first 6 months.  They had a lot of trouble balancing the game and I have a feeling MO will have the same problem.  One thing I can say, I am glad MO took the extra 3 or how ever long months before releasing.  Im sure it will take a few months if not 6 to get it all going right.

Here's the thing.  If you want to experience the game it is best to get in at the beginning.  Like all MMO's lately the highest populations will be at launch and they will drop off after about 3 months regardless of whether perfect gaming conditions exist.   Something is always wrong to someone.  Trolls will do their best to kill MO like they did DFO.   So my advice is to get in at launch with the expectation that there will be a few glitches.  I bet you the game is going to rock!

so hmmm.  Guess I didn't answer your question.  From what I have seen in beta and read, I think MO will be similar to DFO, but I also think that MO has learned from DFO and will offer more.  I think they have learned from their mistakes and their triumphs.  One can only hope.

DF has a first person view for ranged (bow, magic) which plays like most fps games, and 3rd person view for melee which plays a lot like AoC without combos. very much a hybrid.

MO has ONLY  first person view. the character quipment screen is the only way to see what you look like. you do not have a choice in this game. think Oblivion with only the first person view.

DF is years ahead of MO in polish, content, playability, variety, comunity, challenges. wile MO is a cool idea, it is far from being a finished game. be prepared to pay and play for a very long "after release" beta because that what this game is right now. a paid beta subscription.

A paid beta, just like DFO.  It really took up until the last DFO "expansion" for DOF to be somwhat complete.  That being said, DFO was still a blast for the 6 months from launch I played on the EU server.  All MMO's are essentially paid betas for the first 6 months.  I cant think of one MMO that wasn't patched and patched and patched before it was somewhat "complete".

     I don't believe that's his point.

His point is that if you want to start one of the two now, what would be the answer.

And the answer is Darkfall for the reasons he mentioned.

Thanks for all the replies, there are many games that we and I have played that we had to pay for beta so nothing knew there..

Far as PVP goes as long as its open and FFa thats all I need, in asheron call 1 thats what we had there and I loved it, Yes we had quests which made it fun to..

hopefully Mo does something great with out and not just haev PVP only with zero quests, I mean player made content is fine , but long as its more than that , then I see it becoming a great game as it will bring back some of the old school style PVP with the new...style graphics and such.

Holy hell! Welcome back bud! Never thought I'd see ya 'round these parts again, pleasure as always.
