Winter of 2010 starts on Dec 22, 2009!  Winter is the first month of the calendar year, even if it technically starts a little bit before the year does.

Hey now, the first two were at least entertaining SFX films. The third is... well, it's one of those films which I pretend don't exist. Such as Alien 3, The Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, etc.

Battle of the Immortals is going to have to change its opening quest line I think.

Add Highlander 2 to the list of movies that should not exist!

    /soapbox on

Having read all the whining about making money and selling out.  I have a challenge to all the readers out there.  What kind of MMO would satisfy you?  The Name, The Type, and the play model.  Lay it all out, if you can.

BTW- People are in this busniess to make money.  As much as they can.  It's called Profit Motive and in a captialist system it's the prime motivator.  To build game systems so they can have a satisfied base of customers.  Period.

    /soapbox off

Oh please. They never made a Highlander 2. Next thing you'll tell me is that they made a 3, 4, and a crappy TV show out of it.

Edit: On topic, it really isn't so much that they're making a movie IP into an MMO, it's that they're taking one that really doesn't  lend itself to the medium very well. There are plenty of movie IPs that would be a much better fit. This is just an obvious cash grab.

Granted, they could very well prove myself and the other naysayers wrong and put out a quality product. But the odds of that are approximately the same as successfully navigating an asteroid field, so I hope nobody out there is holding their breath.

Video game market looks like Hollywood... recycling old stuff ,all the time. Like I said, I'd like to see more original IPs like Aion, The Secret World, etc.

I was thinking Ticklme Elmo Online with a microtransaction item mall.

I think I should make an MMO too. No wait! I think I should first make a film then an MMO. Perfect!

I just don't see how this will work in an MMO. Instead of The Mummy Returns it's The Mummy Respawns.

Now they do MMO of anything.

Will be funny if this is actually a good game. Imagine you're completing an epic quest with friends that will change the game world while dinosaurs with lasers battle around you.

And then you remember this is The Mummy Online.

I think returning to EVE seriously. All these new franchises hit my inbox en masse. All new MMO's  are welcome but it's crazy making so many ones with stupid franchises like The Mummy! :O

It is a question of fangs.

The launch window referred to is of releasing a game when a movie is about to be released. Either get the game out before the movie to promote/hype the movie or ride on the curtails of the movie's projected success.

The problem here with this 'MMO' is that all three movies of The Mummy were done quite some time ago (2008).  Unless there is a new Mummy movie or TV series in the works, this 'MMO' has clearly missed its launch window for marketing purposes. Now before throwing the BS Flags due to other MMO's such as LOTR and Star Wars; keep in mind those MMO's are of popular and well known IP's.

    And that is why...

Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.

    OMG, what's next?

    Philadelphia Story Online?

    Face/Off Online?

    Tremors Online?

    Snakehead Terror Online?

I am flabbergasted. I think I'll move to a cave and wait for "Real Life Online"
