I've been beta testing the matrix online for 3 months, I read alot of the forum's and negative feed back on the hyper-meter for the game. I personally would like to say it has better graphics then any mmo i've played including the favorite of most WoW. The game is based on the matrix trilogy which some would say is a bad idea to begin with because the second and third movie are bad i'm hearing? Yet the movie is more planned out then your average movie, it has tons of religious analogies and isnt just some quick thrown together flick as some would claim. The game MxO it self is awesome bar none in my opinion. What other MMO has its own radio station? In game parties every friday night curtiosy of radio free zion. This is by far the best community in an mmo i've ever seen. Now unto the release most people talk of how the game is dull and bland. Every month the game is update with a new scene and world events, the world events actually effect the matrix enviornment and you can actually see the history of the matrix unfold. Well i've said enough post questions or discussion or why you hate the matrix, there seems to be alot of you from what I hear and i'd like to help clear some of that up the game is looking good.
-I Apologize for the poll i dont no how to fix it lol someone explain that to if you got time

Toughest rater in the world
Try to impress me, please, i dare u
To be honest, I'm surprised they have not scrapped the game. The game is below mediocre. The last two movies and the associated console games created for them were generally considered terrible. The Matrix franchise is so incredibly tarnished that this game NEEDED to be great to have enough subscribers to make it profitable.
They should have followed Wish and Dragon Empire's lead and cancelled development. It would have saved them the heartache of publishing this monstrosity.
Very gimmicky, dated game. I am too suprised they didn't scrap it after the very bad feedback resulted by the open beta. Matrix is definetely a worse franchise then SWG which is beginning to go belly up, so I guess they are aiming for the quick buck.
it didn't interest me at all, should i try it? or is at a waste of time...
All my endings are waiting to begin.
MXO is far from being best game ever. The best game ever has yet to be created. Even if they stopped producing games a year after MXO's release. MXO still wouldn't even be in the top 5 for best game ever. Also I seriously doubt MXO will even be in the running for 'Game of the Year' for 2005.
In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.
Well . At the end of my first day of playing MxO, I am not sure what to say. As a Matrix fan, the game isnt so bad, even though I thought it would be better. Graphics are just great and so is the sound what let me down was just well all those bugs. A good portion of the day was spent doing other things while I waited for the server to come back up (went down twice) and when I wasnt waiting I had horrible lag and to be honest it still has many bugs. I had to keep logging in and out because I kept getting stuck (and what is that damn /stuck feature for? It never worked when I got stuck!). The camera seems sometimes to be held buy a drunk guy . keeps moving and doesnt keep on me(nor my enemy just seems to drift off). The last problem I had was in a mission, after I spent ages trying to get unstuck to finish a mission and finally done so, I had to take an object to an NPC, but to my disappointment when I arrived to his location he couldnt be found. So now I have to do all that all over again.
Oh yeah also . what I found to be odd was how strong they made NPC enemies of your same level. Are they really going to let them as they are? This morning I was forced to team(I dont like teaming up when I am in the noob stage) because I had to kill 3 guys(in separate locations) that had a guard . now sometimes I barley get away with facing 1 NPC, let alone 2. Maybe it is because I am more used to the ways of MMOs like WoW and CoH but sometimes I sure wonder what they were thinking when creating some of the in game content. Oh and another thing wassup with the elevator arent those things supposed to open automatically when you arrive at a floor? It seems in the world of MxO.. they dont lol.
To end with a good note lol . I really did love that battle system, maybe be hard to get used to if you are accustomed to other MMOs but the guys that worked on matrix sure did a fine job with the close combat. When I got into my first fight with that training dummy I was amazed and god knows how many times I re-spawned just to kick his a** once again. Well Ill just shut up now, cheers yall
I voted for 5

I tested MxO for about a month and a half, then decided to bail on it. At first, it seemed really neat. The graphics blew my mind. The areas were very beautiful, despite the laggy server time. Though it was only beta, the lag is what made me decide to stop playing even the beta. It was just too much to bear, way too many rollbacks, and it was nearly impossible to get anything done.
However, the reason I decided not to get the actual game itself, was due to the fact of the (in my opinion) falsely hyped-up interlock combat system. It may as well have been rock-paper-scissors.
From what I had read about the game previous to testing, I had imagined that you would have more control of your character, but basically it was just advanced rps with your w s a d keys.
Some people love the interlock, personally, it didn't appeal to me. It seemed after the first 15-20 levels, there wasn't really anywhere to go. You could do missions, and make factions, but it didn't seem all that faction/guild/alliance or whatever you wanna call it based. If you are cool with paying monthly for an mmog that you will probably play single player missions, or group missions with various people, then this is the game for you.
However, when I hear mmog, I wanna think that I will be playing with some people I will get to know decently, and have them all be equally important. In MxO, you could be any character you want, which, in some aspects, it sounds really neat. But, once you buy all the skills, if you have the $info, you can just switch jobs as much as you want and upgrade your skills. No one is really necesarily a particular type of player. They can do whatever they want, whenever, without resets or anything. I like having designated players doing specific jobs, getting really good at one thing.
It's all opinions, but I personally didn't like the way the game turned out. It seemed really hyped up from what some reviews said and what the official site said, so maybe I just expected something else out of it.
MXO is a game I'm never going to play again, in my opinion the gameplay couldn't get worse, and the graphix wasn't the best either.
If you want a game that's good in most of the genres of MMORPGs, then play WoW or GuildWars or Tibia(graphix stinks seriously but the gameplay is one of the best ever, the community of the game/servers is also some of the best I've seen)...
I wouldn't call it the best game ever, but it's freakin' awesome. The events are the best of anything other than maybe old-school AO.
ehhh not even close to the best game ever *cough* final fantasy 3 *cough*
but it is very very fun to play!
All my endings are waiting to begin.
Erm, i don't want to say something the others have already said, just to give you my example and the most rational opinion about the game, since i've been in the beta for a while now and been through most of the "juicy" updates, events and things of that sort.
at that time i joined in october, lag was the real brain killer, plus the thing i'm from europe and had to wait till midnight to play my hours. the game has really changed since then, so it's not worth talking about it's early times. when they put servers up for 24/7 in december, i was the happiest person in the world. big big world (although a bit monotonic, actually VERY monotonic, repetitive neighbourhoods, expectable surroundings - not quite as the described), lots of items (from my experience, a great majority of them is useless), nice abilities and the main best thing about the game is it's feature of changing skill trees. you can browse your already bought/earned abilities and load them very quickly...example: you start the game as a Coder (crafter) but you want to go to PvP (very crappy pvp maps i have to add) and you can quickly unload coder abilities, and use whichever you want (if you have them already in your inventory that is)...switch to Soldier very quickly
but despite all the fancy clothes, clubs, hyper-jump and stuff, the atmosphere of the game is veery boring. they put some story bits in it (although they announced otherwise) and it was still boring.i can't explain thise to new players but more experienced ones will definitely know what i mean.
in january i played the game like non-stop, believing that in the next monthly patches game's gonna improve and get more interesting, thinking "we're waaay far to release date, it'll get better"...to tell you the truth they changed very little...only tweaked some ability features, UI and AI, but the core stayed same
i felt no regret typing resignation on my guild's forums...everybody said things like "i don't blame you" or "i'd go too but i've been hot for this for too damn long"
hope this gets you some clearer insight into the game, it's definitely not best ever...there is a reason why it got so low score on mmorpg.com (i think it's 6.8)
Mowgee: My Online Game Blog
As has been said you cannot compare MMOs to Single player games, i mean games like HL2 (whicch like it or not stats don't lie) would kick most MMOs asses simply because those graphics are not possible for MMOs
As for MxO xompared to other MMOs, i say still it is not the best ever. It has potential, but it needed at least 2 more months in beta to work out critical bugs. Many bugs make it impossible to finish missions. It also tried to do away with loading screens bt in doing so they made it a memory hog so it lags like hell unless you have 1+ GB of memory. It just looks to me like a game that still needs to be finished but they were foolish and are releasing it too early so its doomed.
not even CLOSE to the "best game ever", but from what I saw in beta, it has potential.
I don't think any game that hasn't even been realeased yet could even be considered for this title.
That's like giving an oscar to a movie that has yet to be filmed.
I think its greatest strength is the combat system (which is more interactive and fresh than anything I've seen in a while), although it isn't really my cup of tea.
It's a good game, though!
Just my 2 cents!
I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.
LOL! This is just..rofl! To just ignore how retarded that sounds, but there is no way in theory that ANY of the real life people play those chars. They are NPC's, believe me.
As for the server side, I don't know who cares about that. I have no idea what makes you so noble playing on a good machine, when the game is actually clear commercial, with no actual "soul" in it. Dude, I don't think you've even played the game, so why are you naming facts that don't make sense.
Anyways, I confess MxO is a must try game, you'll like it for few weeks, maybe even 2 months, but that is all peeps.
My opinion on MxO... Well, at first glance I thought the game was great, the combat was really fun, the atmosphere was perfect, advancment was very cool, but the more I went on, the more my expections were failed.
Saying this, MxO is still a very decent game, and if you look at the patch notes you can see they are working VERY hard to fix bugs, balance things such as combat, and that is what get's the most respect out of me when a MMORPG is released.
At the moment, I dont think it's that good a MMO, there's many better choices out there. I do thing they'll be doing alot of really cool things with this game, VERY cool combat, performance fixes, lots of stuff. All that depends on how much money they bring in though, I'm not gonna be there at release, but I do thing I could be there later.
As for "Best Game Ever', not in my opinion, and I cant see it happening, but if they put alot of work into it, then I dont see any reason why not.

IT had too many bugs.
I played MxO during the free preview weekend. Initially I was impressed. The character creation and tutorial made me feel like I was really going to be in the "Matrix universe". The voiceovers were cool. The combat system looked good.
I'll admit that the graphics are pretty cool, even if they aren't the next best thing in gaming visuals. After playing EQ2 for a few months, it was nice to have a character that didn't run with a hitch.
But two hours into playing I found myself saying, "They're actually going to release this next week?" I filed 6 bug reports in my first 4 hours in game.
The mission system is a joke. You take a mission, go to the waypoint, go up the elevator to the assigned floor, do what you have to do, and leave. But that isn't the problem. Half (and I really do mean half) of the time you have to abort the mission and start over again because one of the NPCs didn't spawn, or he won't talk to you, or someone else killed your mark, or the waypoint doesn't update so you have no idea where to go. Or maybe everything goes right on the mission side but you lag walking into the room and you get killed before you ever see your target.
And the pathing is pretty bad. /stuck and /suicide are used to remedy that a bit, but every time I got stuck I was in combat, so neither of those commands would work. I either had to wait it out (which took 15-20 minutes), or go make another character. Logging in and out didn't work.
Combat is pretty good, when it works. It's very d20ish. In about 10% of my battles the target would take a few hits and run away, or my gun wouldn't fire even though I was in range, or I would get stuck(as stated above) but the target would stop attacking and just stand there so combat wouldn't end and I couldn't use /stuck or even /suicide.
I'll give the CSRs or whoever they had in game some credit, they did respond to my petitions within 30 minutes, but by then I had already got fed up and stopped playing (in which case I got an email saying they couldn't find me in game) or I had waited 20 minutes and been unstuck by the server.
I really think MxO has great potential, but it's just not polished enough... I'll give it six months and take another look at it.
