Hello all I'm returning to FFXI actually but on a new account as years in the army has caught up to me and I forgot all my old account info even the address I used lol. I hear alot has changed and I'm looking for info on servers with best population and new player friendly linkshells and/or mentors.

Last time i played must be over 2 years ago now, but i remember Odin was always the most popular. Good luck!
When I played on Lakshmi ( spell check ) it was pretty sparce on the population. Hope that helps, this was about 1 year ago.

Hmmm so no real solid info on servers I'm guessing? I thought I heard SE merged some servers? hope to get a clear idea on where to land soon
I just recently started a week ago myself and looked into server populations.
Currently the most populated server ,from player accounts, using the search function is Asura. I haven't found anyone to refute this claim and therefore joined said server.
I have never seen the population below 2.3K and that's during "offpeak" hours and it usually hovers around 3.8K but I hear that it gets over 4k regularly. Hell the Dunes has 60+ most of the time and last night had 83 there.
Thanks man I started on Asura look me up in-game Illbleed is the name
I play on Asura if you two need some help and I'm on and not busy feel free to ask In-game name is Lexin.
Thanks Lexin I'll talk to you in game
I used to play on Asura after Pandemonium was merged to it and the community was perhaps the best I have encountered in a MMORPG. Granted, you will have your share of min-maxers who believe that class combinations can only go one or two ways, but the people are at the very least polite. The guild I was in was AmatsuKami and they were rather helpful people. Send a /tell to Dokueki, Sravan or Zranica in-game for more information.
(1)TL:DR must be your way of saying that thinking hurts. Then again, this may explain why it looks like you responded to the post without using your brain.
(2) It's not about community, is it? You just have nothing better to do.
