Originally posted by Naithin I completely agree with and second Teutonik. I was fairly surprised no-one had brought it up earlier.AC:DT is the best PvP experience, bar none. It has just the right level of player skill and character skill to keep things interesting. And while yes, it is a 'level' game, the levels are not nearly as important as one might think. It is primarily skill based game, where levels are only an indicator of the overall XP learnt. Skills and stats can be raised at all times provided you have the XP to spend on them at that particular moment. It can start out rough for new players, which I think is it's major curse and why not many new players rollup very often. But by 60+ (very easy to get) You can do exceedingly well in group PvP, at 80+ (also fairly easy to get) If you're good enough you can go toe to toe with the best, and prevail. Basically that means even if you're not yet 'uber' with the player skill side of things, you do at least still have a /chance/, albeit not a good one. Not where in many other level games, where the levels themselves are the be all and end all, and no matter what you do, if you're lower level, you're screwed. On my main character, at level 80 I went 1v1 with someone with an 'actual' level of 212 or so. And won. It was a hell of a fight, very hard, fighting for my life the whole time, as this player was not only higher level, but also good with their character. Fight went on for over 15 mins before finally had a real opening, got him low enough to make him attempt to dive for cover and heal, managed to land my next hit just before his heal went off. :DAnd now higher, level 105 or so - pretty much stopped bothering to level here - have many times engaged in 1vsMany combat (where I am the one) and if not outright win, at least give them a fair run for my money. ie; In a 1v4 battle I had, where I was 101 at the time, and the others displayed as 126, I took 3 of those buggers down before dieing to the last. Was my fault, didn't keep track of where the last guy was, and he shot a war into my back before could evade it properly.Still one hell of an adrenaline pumping fight though.
Well, based on your post, things must have changed drastically with AC1. You said level 60+ is easy to get on Darktide... When I played this game (way back when it first came out), DT was full of gankers who would just whack the newbies for the fun of it.. Making any levels on Darktide was next to impossible, nevermind level 60 or 80.

Old UO was THE PvP game. The end.
Guildwars is way more focused on PVP. Its more a PVP game than PVE, PVE is just there for people that dont like PVP or want to do something different for awhile. And it has more "pvp options" than the majority of other "PVP" MMORPGs, this latest beta added a crapload of stuff for PVP, and if you havent played it in awhile then just dont talk.

I completely agree... there's no way Dillinger can have ANY idea what he's talking about, and still say what he said...
Guildwars IS PvP... It's specifically built around PvP... the name itself has to do with PvP... get a clue...
Originally posted by xplororor Originally posted by Pyke With what is currently out, which game do you feel has the best PvP of all the MMORPGs? Anarchy Online It has everything no other PvP mmorpg has: - PvP for landcontrol - Lower level players can kill off much, much, higher level players - When you and/or your guild log off, you can still protect your gains (land). - AO has sooo many ways of getting hurt (poison, radioactive, hot, cold, and much more) that no one can ever have the perfect armor or weapon. - There are 3 major player factions all battling each other. Any faction can take over other faction's land. It is possible for 1 faction to wipe out the other 2 factions and take all their land! With its PvP for landcontrol, players can litterally control most of the entire game world. And this will show up on the game world map! There are areas unsafe depending which side you are on.
Funny you just described DAOC ... Which is equally as good, if not better than AO (I've played both).
But, hands down, master of all of the ones here: PlanetSide
It's PURE PVP. No PVE to worry about. Just go out and blast the enemy. Tactics ARE Everything. All the others it's all about your gear. In Planetside it's about tactics and how well your squad, platoon or outfit works as a team. The better group who executes the better plan wins. Simple as that.

Yeah, levelling in AC1 has definitely been made easier. Particually since the DT only lever-xp dungeons. Those I'm of mixed minds about, but it has brought new people over which is a plus.
Basically though you just have to play smart. To begin with, you have nothing to lose anyway, so going through the tutorial dungeon (which now pops you out at level 5 or so, has undergone a major revamp and includes a mini-quest) is worth the few kills you may experience if on during a peak time.
You also gain a non-drop fairly decent weapon for doing the tutorial dungeon, which you can then take and go hunting around in the wilds. Wilds xp is great, you don't need to head to any dungeon for quite some time after that to get rolling with the game.
And further more, for every asshole in the game, there are good people too. Can join a guild, get some buddies, makes the game a lot more fun.
The other thing that has made things a hell of a lot easier for levelling, is that 50+ characters can fellowship for xp regardless of level difference. Prior to 50, the 10 level range still applies, but within 5 levels the xp split is equal. After 50, xp split is equal to everyone regardless of 50 or 126, so can group with a fellow from your guild and go-a-huntin.
There is no other game right now where you can fight literally hundreds of people at once on the same battlefield, and just as great, no other MMORPG features so many different ways to kill or be killed.
You could be knifed to death from a sneaky infiltrator or be completely blown to bits by a gigantic orbital strike.
The sheer massive factor is what redeems Planetside from all of it's shortcomings, and the devs seem to have gotten everything together and are now just pumping out great feature after great feature.

World War II Online has been doing this for 4 years. You should give it a try. Hundreds of players on a half scale map of europe. Best PvP game out there.
Comments
1 - Lineage: The Blood Pledge/The Cross Rancor (a.k.a. Lineage 1)
2 - Guild Wars (even though it's not out yet)
3 - Old school UO
4 - Lineage 2
5 - RYL (although the game sucks, the PvP is quite fun)
