Played a bunch in the beta.   And since the new release of PTW they have inplemented a lot of changes.  The fixed a few over powered weapons a bit, and reduced all weapon/character upgrades across the board.   Big steps in the right direction.   Also a LOT of people were complaining about how you get matched against people that are higher ranked and better guns/upgrades, and while yes this was an issue in beta, this seems to have been reduced a lot with the patches.  Another thing people need to consider is there will be a lot more people playing(at release anyway) so there will be a broader selection of people to match you against so it gets closer.

But just to give you guys a little glimpse of how people bitch and moan about everything, with these new changes when PTW went live.  Everyone has been saying the OCA-WA (sub machine gun) is Over Powered.  The gun costs $499 and can be bought right away(dont know if that will be the case in release).  It has decent ranged and a great fire-rate.   But I will say this, playing with people you know and can talk with in some sort of voice chat, whether it be in game or skype/vent definitely adds an advantage over oppenents that aren't.  Me and a few people were in a 5v4 match and the 4 people we were facing all had "better" guns than us, and a few character upgrades.  We only had beginner guns and 2 Ntecs.   With a intimate knowledge of the landscape and skillful players +1 we easily won the mission.  Granted this might not always be the case.  But I do believe the upgrade nerf seemed to help a lot, and there are a lot more factors that determine win/loss then just who has the best gear.   Now 1v1 matches I will see gear will have a clear advantage but honesly with the ease you can get groups together and the fun factor of having a teammate save your ass by running over an enemy to get the last kill or vise versa why you would want to solo the majority of the time is beyond me.

Dont get me wrong APB has a ways to go, and its yet to be determined of its staying power, but when i play with a few friends were we can communicate over voice Ive had an utter blast playing this game.  If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

What you said has it's ups and downs.

You say that if you know the landscape well and use voice chat, you can overcome the disadvantage of bad equipment. However, many people who will be new to the game will have bad equipment, no group yet to be in a voicechat with and don't know the language. According to what you say they then don't have the slightest chances, if their opponents know the landscape better and/or have better equipment and/or use voice chat.

I think APB is fun, but to buy it, I'd like to see the cheating in the game completly killed. FPS + progression + cheating = bad.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

Interesting post Maji. When you say cheating, do you mean hackers?

He means statpadders and aimbotters, aimbotters will be dealt with at release and stat padders will have a harder time on release.

Yeah that's the plan. Although it's a shooter, RTW handles all the accounts and once a game account is banned for hacking/cheating/aimbotting/statpadding, they've got to buy a new game and start from scratch. That alone should act as a deterent. Oh, that and it costs more to subscribe to those 'aimbots' than it does to pay for the game :)

This happens with every game in every genre.  There will always be players who have played the game longer than you, and in order to overcome that you need to learn the game.

"However, many people who will be new to the game will have bad equipment, no group yet to be in a voicechat with and don't know the language"

Well if someone is new to the game what do they need to do?  Find a group/clan/friends to play with, pay attention, and PLAY THE GAME.  A new player has to make an intelligent and proactive  effort to learn a game, find clans/groups/friends, get gear, and progress.  If a player goes into an MMO thinking that they are going to join everyone on an even playing field, that's a joke.

The game reminds me of turning on GTA and just rampaging through the streets for an hour or two to get my fix, get 4 starred a few times then turn it off for a month or two.

It does seem to need more content : /

i loved rampagin in gta, often got sidetracked from the story to go on a campaign to kill every national guardsman theyld send after one of my parking garage fortresses of fraggitude =D (note that thick concrete walls floors and ceilings made for good tank protection you could lob molitovs out of!)

gta has a great engine for that with the physics and realtime damage modeling not to mention all the detail in the environments that you rampage through.  imagine gta without all that  like rampaging through champion's millenium city instead.
