no for the older machines

So I finally got my key for the key to the city event i go to install the patcher and its doing a check on my system well everythings checks out great except my memory ( I only have 2GB ) okay I can run the game good but than I start digging asking questions and decide im going to need more RAM adding 2GB more wouldn't hurt than I look at a 9800GT  ask for advice on the apb.com forumns people telling me it'll run but not well even with an 9800GT.........I know i have an older computer, and have been wanting to upgrade part of it for a little while now, but man did they really make this game for beastly computers, its very unmotivating and frustrating for me as i'm a huge supporter of this game I can run quite a lot of games on high settings like AoC (than again thats even an older graphics engine). All in all just seems like with such a slim market already they'd have made the game more accessable for more machines like SWTOR is doing, So i decided to come here and get a 2nd opinion from a forumn base I trust more.

9800 cards just aren't good in general. i had a friend who overclocked and liquid cooled two of them and the only ran for two years. not to mention my 250 put out better looking graphics then his two 9800s 250s and 260s are pretty cheap i'd suggest going that route

  • Heffy424Heffy424 Member UncommonPosts: 524

I'm thinking of doing that actually since their not much more expensive than a 9800 what about RAM think 4GM will be good enough?

4 gigs is the rock bottom minimum to game on vista/windows 7 these days, and you cant really run anything for shit on xp with under 3 gigs, operating systems always take up their set amount (vista eats a gig all by itself unless you painstakeingly remove a few things and get it down to 800ish)

as far as vid cards go the 9800 was inferior to the 8800 gtx's, as someone else stated the 260 puts out better performance then 9800's in sli for the money of 1 9800, and old ddr2 which im guessing is the type of ram you have is had for so cheap its practically free these days.  if you have xp 3 gigs is your limit dont bother sticking in 4(unless you have xp 64 bit in which case you can use like 3.5 gigs of it) and if you have vista go for 4 gigs/same for win 7.

lol ddr2 is not cheap these days if you buy new,as ram prices have sky rocketed over the last few months

gtx260/5770 would be the way to go graphics wise

can we have a full spec list of your pc please?

I run a Nivida GeForce 8800 GT 512MB, on a AMD Anthlon 64X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+, with 2GB RAM (Corsair DDR2 XMS2), with Windows XP 32 Bit OS. If what the one guy says above that I can only run 3GB RAM than I guess i'll just order another stick I don't plan on updating my OS atm I'd rather get a new graphics card before I change to Windows 7. Although the comment about not running things for shit seemed harsh I can still run AoC on High looks great to me still same goes for MW2 and WaW than again i've never been a stifler for cutting edge graphics, as long as the game can perform look decent i'm always fine.

Well to be fair AOC ran like crap at launch even on high end systems.  WAR ran like crap on high end systems at launch as well.  Majority of MMOs run like crap at launch its part of what hurts a lot of MMOs.  I could barely run AOC on low at launch now I can run it med to high and it was the same way with WAR. APB will probably run terrible unless you have an insane rig for its launch. But 6 months down the road people who could run it on low smooth will be able to run it on med to high smooth. Also a good chance these guys telling you what you need to run it are going of close to max settings.

I'm probably going to do the least amount of upgrading and as much as I hate saying this since I love my PC , i'm probably just going to buy a new one around Chrismas time for ToR, guess no drinking this next semster at college.

XP supports 4gig. and 64bit xp 128gig. All other restrictions are caused by the hardware. You should look in your motherboard manual how much ram the board use.

    ^-proof

As to the Beta Client itself. The Performance the closed beta Client used is higher than the release one. They will tone the requirements down to get good results with the given specs.

Someone in another forum said: If you can run BC2 you will probably able to run APB. and i agree with that.

You should try to get  4gb of RAM. Atleast 3. I have to run it with 3 gb too. But its DDR3 not 2 for me and a GF9600GT. Im optimistic than im able to run it well at my machine. Big atvantage: my TFT is so old that i can only run 1024*768 ^-^

I'm planning on getting another stick of ram for sure, atleast before launch, I'm not sure how BC2 would run honestly I never bought it last big game I had with higher end graphics was WaW and I ran that maxed and AoC and that was on High for the most part ( i tweaked that game on settings.) As long as it runs thats all I care about atm upgrades I can do down the road. BTW here's a link to my motherboard I have.

    http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/compatible-memory-for/ASUS/M2N-E+SLI/list.html

If im reading it right it says only supports DDR2 (not a big deal to me since I can get 2 more sticks of 1GB) but Just curious if I can get up to 4GB maybe 6?

im not sure why so many people are die hard to stay with xp, vista blew it away once the service packs fixed it up, and win 7 is a great os, although im still using vista since i dont need to update to 7 atm, when i rebuild my burnt out desktop (god it sucks when a vid card fan dies and kills the mb) ill be doing this fall probably a nice fast i7 with 12 gigs of ram and the price on 470/480 nvidia cards should have price dropped by then =D

I'm jsut afraid of change I have Vista on my laptop ironicly but i can't run from not having an os that supports games so 7 here i come.

What are you talking about? I have 3 GB RAM, a 1GB vid card, Quad core, and win 7, and can still run ANY game.

I figured i'd repost in here after playing the KttC event today. well the game runs and honestly pretty freaking well I've had a few freeze ups here or their nothing major think its from all the heat on my machine mainly due to my room being like a sauna to begin with. So When I do upgrade my PC i can't wait to see how it handles this game, but nervousness has been put to rest just glad i can run the game.

Glad I saw this, saves me having to reassure you. I play no problem at all on my ancient rig which has 2 P4 processors (!), 2GB of RAM and the only part I've upgraded recently is video (to a GeForce GT 240).

Am starting on a new build - but this machine plays APB just fine. You shouldn't have any issues either.

After custimizing and actually playing for the last 7 hours ( only 3 1/2 of it in combat districts )  I can safely say you CAN run with a dual core duo processor just fine, and I have a 9600 nvidia card. I will say though If anything, this thing is more processor and memory heavy. If you do not have a good processor or at the least 4 gigs, you will have some severe lag. I lag a lot in combat, but then it can smooth out at times too.

Really If you have anything lower than my system, your experience with APB will be shot because you can't really experience the game.

Mine so far have been perfect except some minor bumps, but you are right Im sure with 4 hell maybe even 3 GB the game will be much smoother.......only problem I have no is a headache from all the gun firing, sirens, explosions and music. Guess having my sound system up really high doesn't help.
